I appologize. There was supposed to be a fifth post, which I previewed, but never submitted. It takes a couple of slams of Bronham's hammer to reveal that the stone ceiling is only a facade fastened to a steel lattice. However, Gerbo's Plan B of using the crowbar to reverse the column movement unlatched the secret hatch. Additionally, the rope hanging from the column allows everyone to get off the floor. The lack of weight allowed the floor to spring back up, locking the column in place. Finally, the group was able to use the rope with foot loops to ascend into the room above the column. Waiting in the room above is a sack with 10 gold for each adventurer, and a single healing potion marked - Only Good in the Door. There is another door, which when opened, takes the adventurers back to the On-Your-Shield.

Thanks for addressing my questions, PurpleRook.
@ The group: I guess I will just shoot my lit crossbow bolt at one of the skeletons.(?) Assumptions: 1) We should prevent the iron bell from ringing because it might alarm more enemies. 2) The outline in the dirt wall might hint at enemies hiding there, or a trap. I will post later or tomorrow. I'm relieved : ) |

Hey all! Makktar will be making an unfashionably late appearance soon! Plan is to get him down the stairs before purplerook’s post on Sunday!

There are a few subtle rules interactions going on here that I want to point out.
First, light. Many characters run around with Darkvision. However, Dim light is -5 Perception. There are several different ways that GMs can handle Perception checks. First, rolling against a fixed DC. This roll can be done either by the player (or secretly by the GM). Second, rolling against a characters passive perception. E.g., Leo has Passive Perception of 15. As the GM, I secretly roll stealth against the PP of 15. Third, a flat target against the character’s Passive Perception. In this situation, I chose the 3rd option. The DC to see the bumps was 15. Bronam’s Passive Perception is 15 (10 in Dim light) and thanks to Clethid’s lantern, the light is normal and so no -5.

Ditto Aliss! Except more fashionable, naturally. I threw a Magic Stone because it's a new cantrip for me and I was excited to try it out - she's happy to share, too, if anyone else wants one!

I saw too late that the these stones can be shared and had done my crossbow roll already. Bludgeon should usually be better than piercing damage against skeletons?
Using mage hand to prevent the bell from ringing is a good idea, while crushing all bones quickly won't harm too. Maybe you can also use mage hand to poke the suspicious outlines at the wall...(?) Wow, that was insightful. I was wondering about all of these points already. Thanks Last edited by Goblin Man; Feb 4th, 2023 at 05:36 PM. |

Folks I’m enrolled at the last minute in an online martial arts class Sat and Sun. Limited bandwidth.
A few pointer Mage hand has 30ft range. You can have Gerbo use the magic stone. Just keep the rolls. Yes skeletons have vulnerability to blunt weapons

I have edited my attack from crossbow to magic stones. With this both skeletons should be gone already as Aliss and me both hit. |

Alright, I might not be posting today, but the general situation is two dead skeletons, four suspicious bumps in the wall, and a 60 ft natural tunnel.

I probably can only post in about 24 h or so.
I have no experience with this kind of situation but I think, we should carefully "investigate" the situation with the abjuration spell and if we can't find anything (to switch it off), we ring the bell... (?) Aliss mage hand probably doesn't have the reach to ring the bell but we can throw stones? I rolled already a very good arcane check but I don't know if it will apply. (My investigation check was not good). As a knowledge Cleric, Gerbo also has the Identify spell at level 1 but funny that you need a pearl worth 100gp for it !? (Also not sure if it would help in such situation). |
