Well, if you look in the PHB Glossary under extraordinary abilities, it says (Ex) next to that.
But if you didn't know what Ex stood for, I must admit that doesn't help much. They're listed in the index too, for what it's worth. |

My only issue with the 2e to 3e switch... they took out a lot of the explaining in favor of keeping the rules simple.
Don't get me wrong, I love 3/3.5e. Some sections come off confusing, though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one wanting to run a druid on the solo game. My question is this though: are the stats for the characters we use in the solo games determined by dice rolls or by point buy? Because if it's by point buy then I feel like I can get a jump on things by generating my character in advance and hopefully streamline things a little bit for whoever my DM will be.

baahk: the characters for the solo games in the NPSG are all determined by dice rolls. This is two-fold: first, it helps new players to learn the dice system on this site, and second, it allows for some element of randomness in character generation. I agree that the point buy system might streamline things for the player and DM, but in this case, the intent is to help the new players understand the different aspects of Play-by-Post.
Hope that answers your question. ![]()

@ baahk36 : If you're wanting to work on a character ahead of time, consider doing this.
Pick a core class, then pick one ability score you think is the most important for it, in regards to the character concept you have in mind. When you make a sheet, put a 17 in that most important score, and put a 10 in everything else. Then fill out the rest of the sheet and see how it looks. Granted, when you have a game and you roll your scores, your abilities are gong to wind up different. Skill points, AC and saving throw modifiers, encumbrance capacity, etc. will change, but this might give you a fair estimate of how things are going to turn out. |

Also, since it is level one, you could pick out your feats, your gear, and spells if pertinent. Mostly, attributes only affect skills at first level in the amount of ranks available. A fighter might want power attack (which requires Str13), but its safe to assume such a character would meet the prerequisites. Once you get your game, you will need only roll and fill skill ranks, and the site's sheet will extrapolate automatically what values it needs

I'll be running a half-elf druid when the time comes. I've already got things picked out for the most part, it's more just a matter of getting those ability scores and other last minute things taken care of. I'm just trying to be as ready as I can. I do a bit of DMing for my table top group and I know how much nicer it is when your players come as prepared as they can be. I know you guys have a lot of people waiting to run these solo games so I just want to be as prepared as I can for both whoever my DM turns out to be and for all those people who are going to be waiting in line behind me for me to finish so they can have their turn.

Also, what do you find to be the best way to manage an animal companion in pbp? I've always just kept a separate character sheet for them in table top.
Oh and P.S. @Hextor, how often do you run that adventures in Greyhawk adventure path? I've got a concept for a really cool duskblade that I want to run in it but I want to do my solo quest here before I do to get a hang of pbp play so I didn't submit an application this time around but I'd definitely be interested the next time you do it.

It really depends. I started it by picking up two solo games, and now running the thieves group game. Basically when ever I have an idea and time to run it. I would just keep watching the advertisements for it. You may get a chance sooner to play your duskblade. Also, each round will be something new, with the occasional allowance for solos. Feel free to subscribe and chat in the lobby OOC with everyone.
As for companions, I always make a separate sheet, as well.

If your animal friend is going to be a considered part of your adventuring, not just someone hanging back while your character does everything himself, then definitely make a seperate character sheet for your animal companion.

Hello hello!
Joined not to long ago and i have to say, the community has been very friendly so far! Not to mention all the fine Rping!I do actually have a question to you folks, it might be hard to answer but here goes: How long would you say that a regular game here last at avarage? By that i mean in time, and possibly in levels gained... Or something like that. I don't really expect to get a answer to it, due to the fact that it is very unprecise!

I'm not sure that is answerable. I've been in games that last two years and two weeks. To answer, it would require someone to go through all the games and tabulate the results.
