Honestly, and this is speaking as a DM that hates finding out that a character someone is applying with is a copy of another character they've already got running or have run, it's really just an ego thing.

If you're bringing a character with some background that you're willing to tweak to fit setting, you're bringing something worth considering. The fact that it's been used elsewhere is only a problem if you can't keep the experiences of each iteration separate.

The only reason a DM could reasonably object is if you're shoehorning too much. For example, I'm running a gothic horror 4E. If someone is applying with a future-flavored character, and pulls out time travel or dimension hopping to justify his presence, I'm going to not even consider it.

Otherwise, and I'm totally saying I have this issue, it's ego. Plain and simple, if someone applies with a character they've used before, it makes a little part of me feel like my game isn't good enough in their eyes to consider the setting and take the time to craft something new. There's a scant bit of truth there, in that a character made from the ground up is more likely to be a compelling part of the setting, but if you're good at restructuring, it really shouldn't be a problem.

So, basically, let you're character stand on his/her own merit. I think that's what I'm getting at. Also, don't tell me he/she is recycled, and I'll never know ^.^

Setting I am sitting here behind my key board, beer in hand, Cradle of Filth shredding my laptops meager speakers, unsure of where I should post my comment when I happen across a Tavern. Tavern, it is a sort of bar. I think to myself," I am drinking beer, those two go together, I will post there."

So, I like to browse /characterdrawing on http://www.reddit.com/r/characterdrawing/reddit and sketch peoples DnD characters, and, I noticed under 'Tools' there is a section labeled 'Local Artist', is there also a corresponding sub forum where people can request art around these parts? Drawing characters makes me feel involved with out having to be too involved. I am no professional artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I can make shaded lines on paper.

There are several threads in the General Discussion forum with other members offering to create images. My suggestion would be to create a similar thread.
I also suggest supplying examples of your work. Good luck!

If you are truly interested in doing this. I'd say you should just start your own thread in the General Discussion forum. You could then link to that forum in your signature and advertise it that way. Also, as Hextor suggested, provide some samples of your work. Hope that helps.

All right, thanks guys, I will do that. I am no pro artist but I do like taking up my pencils and making characters or maps. As an added bonus, I can also draw chickens!

Currently the tower is the only official NPSG.
But sometimes players apply to group based games with the characters they used in their solo games.

Hi everyone,

I've been playing the solo game and even though I haven't finished yet I just have to say what a brilliant, fun time I am having! Not only that, but I've learnt so many new tricks with tags and code and dice, oh my! I must give a special shout out to my DM, Zeppo007. He has been informative, helpful and very, very patient with my newbie mistakes and let me take this opportunity to publicly thank him for his time and effort. Kudos, Zep!

Hey Jim, I'm sorry to hear that. Can I ask what about the site doesn't appeal to you?

Once created, accounts can not be deleted. It'll always be there if you want to give us another chance.
