The Door takes characters up to level 2, so you'll have your freedom of choice. But I'll be the first to understand the excitement that comes with creating a new character. I should probably let purplerook make his case himself, but I'd say the Door is rather beginner friendly. Just recently I put my harpy character through the challenges of its rooms, and she was rather bumbling herself.

The Door is designed as a mutual training environment. I try to highlight an aspect or two of the 5e rules for the players. I also use it to improve various aspects of my GMing skills.

For example, the last 'Door' was an Investigation focused room. It was trapped. The PCs needed to stop the trap and figure out how to escape the room. This Door is the first 'locked room' mystery in 5e.

I've designed the Door to give players a feel for the game (PbP, 5e mechanics, the West Marches style) with a minimal investment (a few posts over two to four weeks).

I was going to build another Twilight Cleric but saw there are like 2 clerics at the Door already? hehe. And hello there DM LeDragon! I was going to build this one to be a Cleric-Wizard too. If that's ok, I'm ready to post in the Characters thread, if that's not too late.

Hi, my character Gerbo in The Door is a Knowledge Cleric 1 but from second level onwards he is meant to be a Wizard all the way. Which shouldn't bother you at all. I'm just clarifying, in case it matters for anyone..

I’m planning on getting a GM post in The Door today. However, I’ll take your character if you get a post in before Sunday. You can get started in a Door episode as the GMs settle character details.

Build the character you want. Because of the nature of the West Marches, the mix of characters is constantly changing. A pair of Twilight Clerics in the Door is fine.

If you’re planning to go Wizard with just a level of Cleric. Check out the Peace Domain. The Emboldening Bond (at 1st level) scales with character level (based on Proficiency Bonus).

Ooh. Definitely tempted. I was keen on going Twilight again because of the heavy armor on a wizard just sounds very cool to me. Maybe I'll do this just to be different. Thanks for the suggestion!

Any level 3-ish parties heading back soon? Noticed there's none waiting and I'm thinking of putting my artificer back out there since it looks like the high level party isn't going out.

Treble83, there’s an adventure in The Door (join/level between each encounter) about ready to head out. Hop on over to the OOC thread and introduce yourself and Ket.

I could reuse a level 2 character (Znarrgol, cleric 1/wizard 1):

I'm with a level 1 PC in The Door. But if it accumulates too many level 1 characters there, I could theoretically switch to Znarrgol.

He is pretty squishy and maybe anyway too small for level 3 companions but I thought I put this out here... Just if it helps. I'm very happy with the door and with my character there (for now).

Hi, I think I read here somewhere that magic items/weapons are super rare in the West Marches? Is that true?

I guess the following doubt is generally never an issue and I just brood over it too long...?:

I have these new rolls and plan for a melee character (fighter, paladin, hexblade or multiclass). While reading about builds, I realized that feats like PAM and Crusher are super good and popular. But then.. what do you do if you happen to draw Excalibur out of the stone?
