What do you think about mystics and the half-elf Variant? I want to make one of the order of nomad... What about a guild background? Like some kind of skill menkey with healing camlpability?

The DMs are still setting up, so I'd give them a little more time. The RP thread isn't even up yet. They'll either PM you or let you know on the OOC thread if your character is good to go.

If it's anything like the last one, there'll be a thread set up for the tavern for everyone to "run into each other" and group up.

Well, my party is more-or-less ready. Every member has rolled out their apps, just waiting for official approval from the DM's side of things. Are we going to have a roster chart like Adventurer's guild, City of Endless Arena and the original West Marches had?

Same, good to see you back Stone. West Marches was a pretty relaxing romp last time and I can only hope that the game plays similarly. Even though I'm not playing a terrible shifter without proper social skills anymore.

I could use some advice. This is my first 5E game, and I am having a touch of difficulty with background for my character. I see them as the child of a magic shop owning family. While I'm good on the story part I'm hung up on the mechanic part. Should I go guild artisan even though I don't see them as part of a guild? Should I pick Sage, or is there another source I can use? Any suggestions?

I would say, if you don't see the character as a guild member, Sage would work best. With the backgrounds, you can kind of tweak them a bit, other than the gameplay bonuses most of them are just suggestions.
