Welcome to Khat's Escorts. Khat pairs up attractive and skilled women and men with discerning nobles. Why be out and about with a pack of thugs when you can have a beautiful and perceptive companion for the evening.


I figure that Khat can use her persuasion on both ends of the contract, persuading adventurers to become escort and Nobles that they need escorts. Does that fit the bill?

Of course, when we get the Strongholds section up and running, you know that Khat will need to establish The Khat House.

I have a neat question for a DM. How do you start a profession? My "Malaki" would love to have a shop and learn about armor and weapons making. This seems like a unique and fun way to make a little gold. What are the requirements to start a profession? I guess I would want to craft armor or weapons. Thanks in advance!

Nai, there is starting a profession and having a shop. You can start a profession by having a tutor train you in a tool (E.g., Smithing Tools). That costs 250 gold (1 gp/day) and takes 250 downtime days.

In terms of having a shop, the DMs have been talking about adopting/creating rules to allow PCs to create establishments (from Castle to Inns).

@purplerook Is there any written material or published works that I can look over for crafting and Smithing you might suggest.
I have to earn another 150 gold before I can purchase the tool kit.

Smith's Tool Kit only costs (20gp). The big cost (in time and money) is getting proficiency with the tools.

I have a suggestion. If you have not yet taken your character out for an adventure after the conversion (does not include the adventure you were on during the conversion), I would suggest tweaking the character's background to include a tool with which you would like to have proficiency. Let the DMs know what you are doing, but it should be good as custom backgrounds are allowed.

Hi all, just wanted to indicate interest in crafting magic items. I know it's on the table but not in place.

Could a player propose a system for consideration if it fits in with the general way West Marches functions?

@Corwin,

I/We have gotten as far as putting in place a system for crafting 1st level scrolls. See the discussion here. As well, TomB (as part of Downtime) has rolled out a system for crafting any non-magical items. I'm waiting to see how much impact 1st level scrolls have on the system, before allowing higher level scrolls.

There are a couple of concerns on the table about crafting magical items. One is that it would generate far more gold for those who can craft magic than those who cannot. The second is that the ability to craft magical items would decrease the impact/value of 'discovered' magic.

There might be some post minimum, but there is no reason (that I know of) that you could post here and not in Heros and Heroines. I am afraid the Internet Gremlins ate your post (an infrequent, but not unknown problem). Please try re-posting your character. FYI, this is a good time to bring in a new character. We have several groups in the process of forming. Please post in the OOC Party Planning Thread about your interest. You can do that even before the character is approved.

I have a couple questions about character creation.
So I see all official races are allowed, just wanted to check that a dragonmarked race would be okay? I was also wondering if I would be allowed to reflavor a bow as a firearm. I’m thinking about an artificer, but the pistol and musket from the DMG are obviously too expensive for me to start with. Not sure if you’d be okay with firearms in this world though.

The character creation blurb mentioned trading weapons -- is it permissible to trade other starting equipment for equivalent value stuff at creation? (in this case leather armor + light crossbow + 10gp for studded leather)

It says armor too, but it's not just open buy & sell like what you've laid out. Arguably better if we just did that, but we inherited that rule and never reconsidered it.
