Teema
right-aligned image

Just as Teema had been about to put the potion to her lips and to remorselessly waste the precious healing for the sake of conceitedness, Hex reached out to her telepathically and all the adventurers could see how she halted mid-motion and immediately threw the half-elf a sort of half frown, half angry face. "A nap?! How will a nap make this go away?!! It really hurts too..." Entirely going back on her claims that it wasn't even that painful, the little harpy's expression turned from complaining to Hex into an obvious pout. Teema was fuming that he would be lying to her like this, but at the least she hadn't drunk the potion as she was now challenging Hex with slightly narrowed eyes. However, the half-drow's swagger remained just as unperturbed as the last time that she had been angry at him, which was upsetting her more and more before something suddenly occurred to her. The petulant pout immediately washed away and her lucent gaze unnarrowed as she corked the potion, put it away, and then took a few steps towards the half-elf. She made herself look even more petite than she already was by slightly slumping her slender shoulders while approaching him gingerly on her taloned claws.

When the blood-harpy arrived in front of Hex, her taloned fingers amidst her wings curled slightly into the leather of his pantlegs before she looked up at him with wide and big eyes. "It's really, really bad, Hex! It hurts, and it will leave a scar!" Teema made the most pitiable expression that she saw herself capable of making, but then she opened her mouth slightly wider than usual and let the half-elf see her unusually pointy teeth. "I don't have to use the potion to heal myself, though! You know, I'm a blood harpy, and we're, you know, magical." She pulled on Hex's pantleg a little more, but not too willfully. "I could, you know, make the wound go away, you know, with a little bit of blood?" Teema mumbled a little as her explanation came out as more of a question, though she certainly seemed like she wasn't making things up. "I promise that I'll preserve the potion, okay~? But in return, could you help me and let me bite you a little? Just a little bit? As a friend?" Although Teema had done a very good job of producing a pleading tone with her higher pitch, it was rather obvious that she was trying to nag Hex into complying with her. Also, looking at her more closely, it was easy to discern that the avian woman didn't seem to have much of a habit of going around and biting people, so as she was now posing this odd idea to Hex, despite her pleading there was also a trace of unmistakable excitement hiding behind her lucent eyes as she looked up at the tall adventurer.

After the party left the goblin forest behind and both Galen and Girgadan invited the party to a few rounds of boozing, with the present that Teema had received from Snapkick last time she had no worries taking them up on their offer and so she got into the spirit of things without any inhibitions. In short order the little harpy demonstrated how much of a lightweight she actually was. Her pesky attitude only got worse after she was drunk immediately after the first beverage, and even though the adventurers wisely withheld her from getting anymore, she was joking, making little tricks and continuously pestering each of the adventurers to give her all of their attention. Eventually the break was over and the party decided that braving the door was better than indulging the bad habit that Teema was forming with alcohol, but once the group was through the door again the harpy had her inebriation lifted from her magically just like before, and again she got out of the misuse of alcohol without any repercussions. As someone who had never been permitted to do any kind of drinking before, the little harpy was actually pretty oblivious that it shouldn't work like that at all. But although she had seen enough people getting drunk in her past, she attributed that it was different for her to her harpy abilities or maybe another blessing that the sylphs had given her without telling her about it. Either way, she was in a pretty good mood when she arrived in the indoor amphitheater, and realizing that there was a stage but she hadn't been asked to perform on it, Teema got slightly restless but was also intrigued what kind of spectacle would present itself to her now. Although the light was dim her lucent eyes could see everything pretty clearly, and when the elven woman welcomed the adventurers into the rows of seats, the blood harpy decided for once to not make any trouble and to follow in Galen's footsteps as she flew through the ranks and landed on the seat next to the one that he had chosen. During the partying before she might have annoyed one or even a few more of the patrons that had just wanted peace in the Inn on Your Shield, but as an upside it had filled up Teema's attention batteries and for once she was just being quiet and curiously tilting her head as she primed herself for others to perform for her as a change of pace.

Hex

(Click for Sheet) @Sarankan Loganathan

Hex was realizing that Teema was quite sanguine with everything, and her face was contorting in a mix of anger and confusion again. So he simply shrugged, indicating that he was deferring to her judgment.

Which was why he raised both brows slightly when Teema dropped from her perch and started slowly approaching Hex. Approaching in a way that was... unsettlingly... plaintive?

"Hmmm... What's your game here, Teema-friend?" If Hex was less himself, he'd say she was trying to flirt with him.

" You know, I'm a blood harpy, and we're, you know, magical..." Hex cocked his head not unlike a bird of prey, genuinely interested now. Hex smiled when Teema mentioned 'blood', then laughed when she explained further.

"For a moment there, I thought you were going to do... something else. Go ahead then, Teema-friend! Believe me, I've endured worse."

Hex looked into Teema's eyes then, thinking too late if her bite would actually dismember him.

Thankfully, Hex survived that little friendly biting, and with a short rest and a trip to the armor merchant, the half-drow looked more a warrior than he ever had with bulkier armor and the shortsword strapped to his back. He returned to the On Your Shield with Galen, Girgadan, and Teema still sharing pints. Teema in particular seemed to be developing quite a taste for booze, which Hex merely chuckled at.

When the door opened, Hex saw an indoor ampitheatre beyond the threshold. The structure seemed made of stone; not dwarvish, though. The aesthetic seemed too... elegant. Flamboyant.

"Hmmm. Eladrin?"

Hex reflexively fingered the strange earring he had acquired from the Party. As far as he could tell, the item was cursed; it wouldn't budge no matter how hard he tried to yank it off. He wondered if the jewelry had a role to play in this particular place.

Reading the banner, the half-drow nudged the harpy on the wing and gestured to the sign with his head.

"Have you heard them sing, Teema-friend?"

When the woman on the stage requested them to take a seat, Hex looked to Galen. "Just us, eh? Well, where would you like to sit?"

I'm going to play Zone. A character can move from one Zone to another on a turn:
Zones:
1: Aisle
2: Seating Left
3: Seating Right
4: Stage

For Teema, the air above Zones 2-4 counts as a zone. She can land/take off without penalty.

Lighting: Dim (-5 Perception), unless the PCs use a light source or have Darkvision

OOC
  • For Hex and Galen, DC 13 Dex Save, or fall prone on the stairs
  • For Teema, DC 13 Wis save or be charmed and think that Chaos and Havoc are your best friends.
  • Galen notices something unusual about the figure on the stage; the woman is not moving. It appears that even her lips are not moving, although a voice is emanating from her mouth.

IC Welcome to the Show
As Galen and Hex descended the steps to be seated, they heard a voice from thin air tell them, "Watch Out, the steps are slippery when wet."

The Eladrin on the stage called out, "I need a volunteer from the audience. You, the flying one, come on down and land on the stage."

Hex recovered his footing quickly enough to find some purchase on the apparently slick floor. Had it rained in here? Weren't they indoors? Something seemed amiss to the usually unhinged sorcerer.

"Thank you, disembodied voice!"

The half-drow looked to Galen with a sarcastic smile though, implying that he was suspicious about this whole "concert." Hearing the eladrin woman call for Teema to approach the stage, he sent a telepathic warning. "Have a care, dearest blood harpy. Seems like someone's playing tricks on us..."

While he was doing so, Hex was already moving towards the stage, eager to support his friend and find out more about this questionable spectacle.

The voice was too late in telling Galen that the step were slippery either magical or mundane. The ranger’s foot slid out from under him as he descended the steps. dex save fail 11. link to roll belowHe fell hard on the concrete steps, probably bruising his tailbone, while he looked at the Elven woman on stage. He caught a sarcastic smile from Hex as he sat on the ground.

Maybe the lack of movement or any reaction from his fall made him take second look at her and realize something was off. She wasn’t moving; not even her lips! He rose to his feet and stepped into the nearest row as Teema was hailed down to the stage.

Galen fell put. It appeared that all that was damaged was his pride as he got back up and took a seat.

Not slipping, Hex continued down the stairs and onto the stage. As well, Teema fluttered down onto the stage.

Now that they are on the stage, Hex and Teema can examine the Eladrin more closely. She is similar to the Eladrin they had seen in the last Door. The woman does not move, even her lips when talking. Perhaps the group is dealing with an illusion.

"Two assistants, even better."

There was a swoosh as a side curtain pulled back to reveal a guillotine. There is a swoosh, and the blade comes down,
slicing the melon placed in the guillotine in half.

" If one of our volunteers places their head within the device, we can get on with our show."

Teema
right-aligned image

Teema knew exactly what she was doing. She was breaking the rules. No biting people. But Hex said yes... Blood had been on Teema's mind since she had stepped through the Door for the first time and the human Percy had smelled of it so deliciously. It was a forbidden thing for the blood harpy to want, a forbidden thing to pursue if she was supposed to be a civilized harpy. But she was an adventurer now and that meant she was free and without any of the old rules. And Hex confirmed that he had endured worse. As her friend, surely he could help Teema out a little bit. The petite avian was slow and careful as her talons and claws lightly gripped the drow male's clothes and she began to slowly climb his person, her body light enough for him to keep standing straight despite her weight. It was a matter of practicality due to their distinct height difference, and her movements were controlled and almost withheld. But her lucent eyes were wider than they had ever been and her face took an expression of intent focus. When she had scaled the sorcerer, she didn't trust herself to speak as her feathery wings found a hold on his broad shoulders and she faintly maneuvred him to expose more of his neck. Teema was very aware of the blood underneath his grey skin. Elven or human, right now she didn't even begin to care. Her pointy teeth were exposed once more as a small inner turmoil was fought about whether she really ought to break the rules like this, but then the scent was too tantalizing and so the blood harpy just bit. Right into Hex's neck. And when the blood started flowing, Teema made sure not to rip a wound that would leave the half-elf bleeding out once she let go, but that was about it with her caution. Her own blood frenzy took her and with the taboo broken she allowed herself to drink. Beneath the haphazard bandaging, the avian's shoulder was already healed, but Teema didn't stop. His blood was just too fascinatingly good. Hex had said he would endure, and the little, irresponsible harpy took him by his word. Now that she had started, it was somehow very difficult to stop.

With a bit of time to cool down tempers already behind her, Teema's entrance into Chaos and Havoc's theatre found the petite blood harpy more docile than usually. Maybe it had been the rush of drinking a humanoid's blood or having all that fun while being drunk, but even now when all of that had washed off, Teema found herself in the right mindset to leave grabbing for attention to others as she was for once ready to pay attention instead. When Hex nudged her and asked whether she had heard 'them' sing before, the avian woman looked at the half-elf with puzzlement. "No?" Right now Teema wasn't really sure how to act around Hex, but his question had seemed sincere. "I've never been to the feywilds. Do you think they will sing?" Teema really hoped that they wouldn't. Somehow she had expected acrobatics rather than singing, but if that's what this was going to be she would rather be the one singing herself. Listening to others sing was really boring to sit through and Teema couldn't help a small frown appearing on her pretty features. Alas, once the elven woman appeared with her conical hat, the harpy's mood immediately lifted as her leotard didn't look like a singing costume. It looked like this show would be fun to watch. What wasn't fun to watch however was when Hex struggled to keep his bearing on his way down the steps and Galen even slipped and fell. But once the two adventurers had made it to their seats, Teema flew to follow as she landed next to them, feeling a little bad for them that they didn't have pretty wings like her. But once the elf on stage called for the petite avian to join, she eagerly puffed up her feathers as all and any guilt was forgotten for the moment. Hex sent her a telepathic message that they were being played tricks upon, but Teema didn't see it. ~Tricks? I love tricks!~ And already she flew onto stage, forcing Hex to follow as he couldn't leave the gullible harpy woman to her own devices. From up close, Teema saw that the elven woman looked like an Eladrin actually, and she didn't use any lip movements to talk. It was a pretty neat trick, the harpy had to admit, so she decided she would forgive the other woman for being one of those Eladrin folk who had been so mean to her before. But then came the guillotine. And as the melon was sliced in half, that's when Teema remembered that this was one of the Door's magical challenge rooms and that for some odd reason nobody else was in this theatre to watch the show together with them. Looking at the murder device, Teema got a little scared and suddenly felt a lot less committed to being a volunteer. Her face took on a dismayed expression and she couldn't help but look up at Hex for guidance, her voice an insecure whine. "Hex...??"

The half-drow was accustomed to looks of lust given and received. He recognized the look on Teema's when they were back in the tavern as simliar, yet... different. A lust for blood, Hex thought weakly as he struggled to maintain consciousness while the harpy drained him of this rich bodily fluid. To be honest, it was euphoric; he was quite unwilling to stop.

In the heat of the moment, Hex had suddenly opened his mouth in a snarl. His intense eyes pulsed purple as he turned sideways towards Teema, grabbed her petite shoulders in a vice grip, then acted as if it was his turn to bite her.

Hex's neck dripped red as he looked at the drunken blood harpy, a toothy grin on his face.

"Careful what you wish for, little one... You might bite more than you can chew..."

A thick raspy laugh escaped from his throat as he eased his fingers and let Teema go.

*******

Hex saw Teema was unbothered by his message, so he made haste to join her. The standing woman indeed seemed to be an illusion. Hex retrieved his shield from his back, then swung at the woman's arm just to make sure it was corporeal.

As he was avoiding the rolling half of a melon, Hex heard a different voice in his head. His ear, more specifically.

"Hm. Interesting. It appears our showmakers here are from the Party we just came from earlier. Two showmakers, it seems?"

Hex tried communicating with whoever was on the end of the strange Fey earpiece. "Fairest Host, would that be you, then? Pray tell more about 'those two', yes? "

To Teema, who looked a little lost, he messaged, "We must find who these directors are who want us to dance on their puppet strings. I suspect they are invisible..."

Galen can take action to look for his coin purse.

IC Welcome to the Show

"Phhht" The sound of raspberry came from the open seating. "Spoilsport is ruining the illusion. Why don't you stick your head into the gadget? I guarantee it won't hurt."

Meanwhile, the other voice called out, "Oh Mister Elven Bowman" Presumable referencing Galen "It looks like you've lost your purse, wherever could it be?"

The earpiece caller was no help, so Hex ignored it. His suspicion however seemed to wash away from his face as the powerful suggestion to put his head into the guillotine took effect over him.

"Won't... Hurt... Eh? Why, I... Of course I shall do...
That... "

As he was making his way to the executioner's device, Hex glanced at Teema. He seemed to be struggling. "F-find... them..."

Teema
right-aligned image

It was very much in Teema's nature as a blood harpy that she couldn't help indulging herself after the ban which had been imposed on her for the entirety of her life had been lifted. While the carnivorous avian did her best to hold back on Hex to not take out a chunk of flesh accidentally, the biting part of her maneuver wasn't more than a nibble but as the liquid of life began flowing Teema couldn't stop herself from being greedy. She had gotten by on normal food and animal blood all her life, but something about humanoids was different on a fundamental level. The petite woman had no knowledge of the arcane and certainly knew nothing about her own physiology, but while the wound from the goblin arrow sealed up and left no scar behind, the imbibing of Hex's blood could only be called magical. And Teema did a bad job limiting herself, as this was something she had been meant to do for so long and only the rules had been holding her back. Hex's well-being unfortunately faded in the background.

It was like this that at first, the little harpy didn't even notice as Hex put his hands on her shoulders beneath her hair and her downy feathers. But once the far bigger man squeezed to catch her attention and mimed biting her in return, Teema's efforts of drinking his blood came to an immediate halt as she looked at him with wide, shocked eyes and a last dribble of red on her lips. Her head had been so empty of thought while she had been drinking that the magician's teasing had to reach her through a bit of a haze, but once the idea that he was considering this as an invitation to bite her back had pierced into her thoughts, Teema froze in place even though she was still riding a high. "Don't bite me please, Hex..." Teema was suddenly all meek compared to how unhinged she had appeared before, but as a voice in the back of her mind kept telling her that she had broken a great taboo and now Hex was suggesting that he might be the one to punish her for it, even though this weren't his intentions she was holding still while holding on to him and dreading what was going to happen. Only that instead of getting bitten, Hex let it slide instead.

Now Teema was all confused, but as the half-drow let go of her, the petite avian missed her chance to flee as soon as she could, instead searching his eyes for the answer behind his behavior. And then Hex laughed, and Teema wasn't sure what it meant. Her desire for blood hadn't fleeted actually, but both her reason and seemingly his permission had. Right then Teema's thoughts were scrambled and even after she jumped off of Hex and kept searching his expression for any sign or leads whether she had been good or bad, the half-elf remained inscrutable as the Door finally appeared in the middle of the path and invited them to return to Westhaven. So they did, and Teema wasn't fully sure how to act after this. But she also wasn't sure if she was allowed to ask about it. It hadn't looked like it was only a joke to Hex, though him choosing not to bite her back was certainly the gesture of a friend. And he had said it was okay to bite him, but maybe it hadn't been fully. Maybe I bit him too long? I really didn't chew on him too much, I swear I was careful! But for the next few hours Teema was too coy for any kind of backtalk and instead she joined the other adventurers with boozing, though the incident with her first taste of humanoid blood kept being stuck in the back of her mind.

Although Teema would have to explore her general feelings about asking friends for blood a good while longer, right then on the stage of Chaos and Havoc she looked to Hex for guidance about the creepy request of climbing into a murder machine in this dimly lit room which didn't at all convince the small harpy that the show on display wasn't supposed to be her murder. The half-elven magician muttered something about showmakers and the Eladrin party, but while Teema failed to track his thoughts, Hex's telepathic comments that he wanted to find the invisible voices explained that he also didn't want to star in this kind of show. Except just the next time that one of the voices suggested that the guillotine wouldn't hurt, Hex immediately went back on that notion as he agreed audibly and approached the executioner's device. Like before when they had interacted in the forest, Hex's mixed messages fully threw Teema for a loop. Something about the way he was acting was very weird and the little bird woman could hear him in her thoughts again, still asking her to find Chaos and Havok. But Teema didn't like anything about this. She didn't really trust these Eladrin, and even though the woman next to her didn't seem real and might have been somewhere else in the room, the harpy had a much larger concern for her inscrutable friend's safety. "No, you're being dumb, Hex!!" Teema sounded positively stricken with incredulity, and instead of searching for any kind of director she fluttered onto Hex's back and dug her claws into his armor to pull him back out of the guillotine with all the strength that her little wings could muster, trying to get him out of the device before the blade would have any opportunity to behead the far too trusting half-drow. "No!!"

It took Galen a moment to realize the voice was addressing him, no one else was in the space. He stood and patted his belt My purse Galen repeated realizing his coin purse was gone.
“So the show isn’t free then? Do you want coin or blood,” Galen asked half tempted to nock an arrow as Hex moved towards the Guillotine and Teema trying to pull him back. His eyes darted around the room trying to spot either his purse or a source of the voice.

I'm going to play Zone. A character can move from one Zone to another on a turn:
Zones:
1: Aisle
2: Seating Left
3: Seating Right
4: Stage

Locations:
Teema: 4 Landed on Hex
Hex: 4
Gallen: 3

For Teema, the air above Zones 2-4 counts as a zone. She can land/take off without penalty.

Lighting: Dim (-5 Perception), unless the PCs use a light source or have Darkvision

ElderOblex - DC 13 Wis Save, or Hex, takes the voice up on its suggestion to put his head in the guillotine
Galen can take action to look for his coin purse.

IC Welcome to the Show
Galen briefly caught sight of his purse attached to Hex's belt before a sound drew his attention to the guillotine's front.

"Swish" The guillotine blade came down and landed with a resounding "Crack." Hex's head bounced across the stage, followed by a small trail of blood.

An invisible voice called out, "Off with his head, sounds a bit severe for a simple case of theft. Ah well, what was easily sundered can be put right." Hex's head began floating back towards Hex's body, still obscured by the guillotine.

Teema

Hex wasn't a small man at all when it came to the rather petite harpy who was desperately pulling him out of the murder device at the very last moment. Teema strained and when his larger frame did move as intended, with wide, lucent eyes she watched in awe as the blade struck right where the half-elf's neck had been placed before, only to reveal that the blade had retracted and would have never been able to harm Hex, much less behead him as Teema had feared. The female avian's relief was great as she looked at the bouncing head and realized that none of it was real and that she had gotten all frightened over a mere magic trick that had been intended to frighten her. Immediately she was back to being fully absorbed with the show and now she only wanted to witness firsthand to see the show to its completion. And she very much wanted to be the volunteer for the next trick, if Chaos and Havoc would allow her to participate after she had gotten so frightened and tried to interfere.

Remembering that she was on stage and that Galen might not have realized what was happening yet, Teema bottled up her excitement and refused to make even a single peep as she exchanged a quick glance with Hex that displayed how into the show she was once again. Jumping off of the magician's back, the little harpy looked out into the seating areas as she awaited the dismembered voices to resume their narration of this exciting show. She even forgot that telepathically she could have talked to Hex and shared her excitement, but she didn't recall before the telepath reached out himself. Instead, she whispered to him as she came to worry that Hex might possibly miss his cue. "You need to put your head back into it! Make it look real, Hex!"

Hex

(Click for Sheet) @Sarankan Loganathan
It was strange for Hex to feel the blade of the executioner's device fall on his neck. It felt like a dream, in truth. He knew he was there, head in the guillotine, but also knew that something - or someone, to be precise - was compelling him to do so.

Stranger still was when he saw his own head roll across the platform, disoriented that he was now, apparently, decapitated.

But Hex bid as the harpy pleaded anyway. When his "head" reattached to his body, Hex suddenly rose from the guillotine almost jumping up, then bowed to the non-existent crowd with flourishes of arms.

"Behold, the accused is proved innocent of all charges! Galen! Catch!"

And with that Hex tossed back Galen's purse to the ranger, then he looked around the stage to see some sign of his manipulators.

"Was that it, then? I fail to see the humor in this rather sad spectacle, I must say..." Hex said with a growl in his voice.
