Rhazor Blackhand (rogue level 4) Rhazor took a long look at the map Dice history: d20+3 (9)+3 Total = 12 (12). "These names and places all mean nothing to me." He took a sip of ale. "What do we know about these... places? Are we sure they are islands? Or sites on islands?" He looks to Briggs, Arrogaio, and Cha-kra. "You said a pirate had given you the map? What other information did he give you?" Rhazor considers for a moment. "Could we question the man again?" Or did you kill him right after? He looks to Arrogaio. "Is there a library in the city? Or a scholar whom fate has brought here?" He tries not to look at the giant grasshopper next to him, but the variety in this tavern was already so vast, surely there should be some ancient scholar or mage in town who could help the group for some golden coins.

Snap Kick As the newly-forming party gathers to study the pirate map, Snap Kick slinks off up the stairs toward the guestrooms and disappears. After some time, the door from the apartments to the tavern bursts open, and a dashing kenku attired in a garish parrot-feather cape, leather vest, and plumed buccaneer cap sweeps onto the landing. Eager to be off to sea and away from a woman dimly-remembered but apparently thoroughly scorned, he strides down the steps and over to his companions. Confident in his new disguise, the monk claps Confor on the shoulder and declares gruffly, "I yam what I yam, and dat's all what I yam!"

Cha-kra If Cha-kra hated standing over maps and pirate symbology while discussing it, then his chitinous face did a pretty good job of hiding it. He stood still, straight in front of the table, and was keeping all four of his limbs free at perfect poise as if he could get attacked at any moment. Seemingly it was his resting posture. Although he had loudly proclaimed to have been one of the few that had retrieved the mysterious maps that the party was looking at, the Thri-kreen warrior had been very sparing with his explanations as if he considered involving the other adventurers in the puzzle-solving as less than secondary, at least tertiary. But since he had in fact not solved the puzzle or rather delayed regarding it until there had been others interested in the outing, Cha-kra did in the end share everything there was to know about the origins of these papers and the possible goal of their adventure. He finished his explanation with the last few sentences rounding out everything that he had explained before. "There were hints that the magician who visited Blackbeard was an outsider to their pirate crew. Before we handed the captive over to the Scarlet Legion, he shared that the magician connected these symbols to a temple place of praying on an island that's neighbouring this region. Since Blackbeard had these maps, he might try to reach there too. We might yet have an opportunity at his head and his bounty." The mantis didn't seem very concerned with the details, and his mandibles snapped in regular intervals as he accentuated certain denominators. To elaborate on the questions asked by Arrogaio and Rhazor he replied with his facetted gaze bearing down on them. First the plated leader of the party. "I barely know the human names used for things in this region. The only coastal city I know is Westhaven." And then the rogue who had difficulties getting used to the alien insectoid. "We took his maps, then the Scarlet Legion paid us for his capture. I don't think they have eaten him, but he might be dead. I didn't care." The antennae of the Thri-kreen wiggled a little as he turned his head back to the maps on the table. He fell quiet for a few more seconds, then eventually clicked his maw. "You all know human matters. Ships cost gold, so if you know someone with a ship, we only need to know where to make them sail. If you know how to learn where we need to go, what is it?" Although the others had already suggested to sojourn in the city to gather information, somehow Cha-kra seemed to hope for a more direct method. When Snap Kick came and made his theatrical entrance, the insectoid didn't even twitch a single limb. Maybe he had watched him approach by glancing sidewards through his facetted eyes, but nobody could be sure if Cha-kra hadn't even ignored the dapper kenku completely.

You all stand around examining the map. Arrogaio knows what a thorp is as that of a small town. The thorp of delusion though is said to be outside of time and a place where reptiles and amphibians have taken to technology rather than mammals. You know that many ships have sunk near the isle as merfolk reach up to drag those with little faith to the bottom of the sea.

Looking at the map rhazor sees the temple of shadows. It was only a rumor but it's said statues come to life to those not focused on their goal but by looking at the sun you may find yourself becoming one of the statues yourself.

Cha kra you remember the captain who sent you on your previous mission. Captain rockabasher an orc sailor. He may be able to take you should you be able to convince him.

"Ah!" he says. "A resident of this land unafraid to draw attention. A rare bird, no?" Arrogaio cocks his head at Snap Kick as if considering something, but responds to the kenku only, "Yes, you are." After half listening to Rhazor and Cha-kra, Arrogaio nods decisively. "To the docks, then!" he declares. "The sailor know his seas better than the scholar knows anything. I will get the information we seek there. A library..." Arrogaio winces in distaste and shakes his head. "This is not a place for an adventurer."

Confor and the current crew "he shared that the magician connected these symbols to a temple place of praying on an island that's neighboring this region..." "Indeed? Thank you, Cha-kra, that is useful to know." A mysterious temple on an island. The home of an 'evil' cult? By now, the warlock didn't need to hear his patron's voice to know that Gnarlus didn't think this 'adventure' was worth their time. His familiar didn't either, but he ignored the tiny fiend's telepathic grumbling even as he absentmindedly fed the 'raven' some corn. As usual, Snapkick's antics brighten Confor's day. But before the half-elf could make a witticism on the kenku's new and magnificent plumage, Arrogaio beats him to it. The burly and heavily armored attention hog was reminding the warlock of his father more and more, which didn't bode well for Arrogaio's health. But Confor only clapped the monk back on the shoulder with a smile, then turned his head to the others and said, "we seem to have a consensus to seek the wisdom of sailors. But as we seem to be lacking in those skilled in the healing arts, magical and otherwise, I'm going to buy a couple of healing potions for myself, something the rest of you might consider doing. I'll meet you at the docks."

Confor at the thieves guild And he did buy two healing potions. But he also went to speak to his contact at the local thieves guild. Piracy required support networks to fence their loot, hire crewmen, and such. It could be that the thorp and the temple weren't unknown to Westhaven's criminals. Snap Kick The feathers on Snap Kick's head puff out slightly at Arrogaio's attention. But he offers nothing else at that time, cocking his head and looking from Confor to Arrogaio. When the warlock suggests everyone buy healing potions, he pulls out his pockets to show how empty they are and clacks his bill reproachfully. Nonetheless he tags along after Confor as the man visits the shops, then on his instructions goes to await him at the docks as he visits his guild.

Briggs IC Briggs seems chipper as usual, especially at the mention of one “Blackbeard.” "Can’t say I’ve heard of the buccaneer, But of its a race to the Thorp, then let’s not delay. Perhaps we could charter whichever vessel took Chakra and the others." "And aye, perhaps we’ll even meet this Blackbeard upon the high seas. Ah, for a taste of ship-to-ship combat! A chance to buckle swashes and leap from the crows next, with only a dagger to slow your fall down the mainmast.”" In truth, all Briggs “knows” of naval warfare, he’s gleaned from adventure novels. His favorite as a boy were the Llewelyn Lutestrummer books by T.B. Yeoman. And if those tales haven’t prepared him for the horrors of boarding and being boarded, he’s not the slightest bit aware. "Haul on the bowline and man the capstan! Look the weather in the lee, ye blood red roses, fetch a bottle for the shanty man, and let’s put out to sea once more. But first, yes, healing droughts would be welcome. I’ll likewise meet you at the docks."

 

Briggs will buy 3 healing potions. On his way he’ll try to find out more about Blackbeard from his friends among the city’s fencers and other “light” fighters.

"But I agree, some healing potions won't hurt. We may face some tough challenges." And according to the stories of the drunken sailors in the harbors' inns, many challenges included long, pointy teeth. The young rogue shrugs his shoulders. "Let's go to the docks."

IC Seeing Snapkick's empty pockets, Confor buys two more healing potions, one for his friend, and one for the lethal 6-limbed warrior Cha-Kra.

OOC If they are unused--but please use them if you need them!--then return them to Confor after the adventure. Otherwise, they are free.

Cha-kra In this lively new group of adventurers, Cha-kra stuck out like a sore thumb as he didn't participate in any banter and any of the antics of his new companions washed over him without drawing much of any reaction. It was clear that he was at least listening to everything that was said from small movements in his body language, but if anything the Thri-kreen proved himself entirely inept in any form of socializing, or he simply didn't care. Even when Briggs suggested that the party could possibly charter the sailors who had dealt with Cha-kra's previous hunting party, the insectoid hunter didn't bother to explain that he hadn't ridden a ship since arriving in the West Marches and instead only gave a curt answer. "He was for hire last time." And so without further discussion the mantis gathered up the maps and joined the others in relocating their efforts over to Westhaven's port. When those that had went shopping reconvened with the group, Cha-kra accepted Confor's healing potion without any thanks as one of his lower arms reached out to close his claws around the potion to swiftly store it with all of his other belongings. "The man who placed the bounty on Blackbeard is captain of the Red Lady. The vessel is easily recognized by its red sails." And with that small explanation, the mantis led his party to possibly meet with Captain Rockabasher, and it seemed Cha-kra was difficult to distract and proceeded on this newest venture with a single-mindedness that was remarkable, yet at the same time reckless in light of forgoing any further preparations himself. The other adventurers quickly noticed that he was prone to silence in the absence of required communication and especially when he abstained from assisting in the information gathering it appeared as if he wasn't really concerned with some of the most basic measures that experienced adventurers took before setting out on an expedition like this.
