@Togot:
Sounds cool! If you don't want Derek to carry his manacles around until he is able to raise the undead, you may mark the item on his sheet as stored in his room or something like that. It's assumed that all of the adventurers have lodgings in Westhaven where they can leave items without them getting stolen.

As more of a general matter, I don't really want to micromanage everybody's equipment, but there might come a moment when I look at your character sheet and make judgment calls based on how much equipment your characters are physically carrying around. Per the rules it may be that your characters can carry heaps of belongings on their backs without being encumbered (I wish I could use those rules but it just seems too much bookkeeping to do it practically), however if a whole mountain of items on your person would impede you during a challenge or an encounter I might be so unkindly inclined to have you roll with disadvantages or maybe creatures who are contesting you in some way with advantage. So far I haven't really gotten in a situation where I remembered to count a huge assortment of items to a player's detriment, but there might be a point in time that I do, so be forewarned to remember how much load you are putting on your characters and that it only takes a free item interaction during your turn to take that load off.

It's really not too much of a major point and I don't really want to turn the whole matter of equipment into a headache, but I just dislike treating your backpacks as computer RPG inventories, nor am I really comfortable envisioning all those cinematic combat moments and feats of athleticism happening while everybody is carrying huge army backpacks of belongings on their back. It somewhat ruins the visual of cool heroes for me, even if actually dealing with encumbrance and item locations is way too much work for me to enforce as the GM. Maybe I'll find some pleasant middle-ground to adjudicate equipment someday, but for now I can only give you some vague warning that I might respect it during encounters and that you will do well to consider it in some manner as well.

@edit:
Let's all try to remember that all equipment that your characters bring is physically there, then I imagine dealing with it during adventuring won't be too much of a hassle and not break anybody's immersion. If you want to bring more equipment than you feel is reasonable to be handling on your character's person, consider buying a vehicle, a beast of burden, or storing non-essential items at your lodgings.

Imagine taking a pack mule into a dream world.

Oh yeah, for ATtR I conveniently forgot talking about any of that because it was all just a dream anyways. There were some laws about the dreamscape at play in the background, but it was really practical that they weren't the laws of physics.

Also, everybody was first level and usually in that range you're not prone to overload your characters yet. Equipment is just one of those hassles where it would be a lot easier for the players to get a measure of it if they could feel the unwieldiness and the weight of the equipment instead of just having to imagine it. I figure as the GM it might be my job to keep reminding you about your characters' sensations, so maybe all of that is just a matter of me learning to be more mindful about how I narrate things. I'll try to be better at that then.

PS: To your point, luckily there was no need to harm any mules in the production of the previous episode.

I was playing a pathfinder game where I was moderately encumbered and it was no real issue to just shrug off my backpack as a free action, fight, and then retrieve it after. If we're fighting in a static environment such as a field, setting any bulky non-combat equipment down prior to a fight and then automatically picking it back up should be assumed. If we were fighting in the middle of the ocean, or surrounded by magma, then that would be the time to enumerate how we're handling our gear.

@Noquarter:
I think that's probably a good rule of thumb. The only other reason why I don't want to handwave it completely is because of the free item interactions that it will take some of your characters to draw your weapons. If you are surprised by combat while on heavy load and unarmed, I'll have to figure out how to adjudicate all of that.

While I've never watched or heard of DanMachi before, employing cheap labor as hirelings is totally a thing. If you just need someone strong to carry your stuff around, that's certainly something that can be arranged and in certain situations it's probably going to be a lot handier than a mule. Let me know if anybody wants to explore that option during the adventure. You'll not find anybody available for hire on the eve of the quest, but there should be enough able bodies around in Westhaven.

Oguun went shopping. I added weights for everything to his character sheet. He should still be about 50 lbs under capacity.

Post coming up!

-Find Familiar components - 10 gp
-shovel - 2 gp
-dagger - 2 gp
-signal whistle - 5 cp
-chalk - 1 cp

i might be interested in looking into this. Derek's strength score is abysmal so it would make sense for someone else to carry stuff for him.

@Togot:
Exciting! Then Derek will just have to get the courage and speak up to his party that he needs the time to make those arrangements.

i'm thinking i'll do it at the end of the adventure after Derek gets paid, maybe as a part of his down time if that's ok

Whatever suits Derek's purposes. The arrangement for a carrier is easy enough to make for a few days, but if you want to put someone on retainer that would probably take a bit longer to look for. It's easier to find someone willing to make a quick buck than someone willing to drop everything whenever Derek does choose to go adventuring. Whomever you hire will expect to get paid for each day that they'll make themselves available to Derek, so you probably don't want to pay them throughout the downtime period. I don't believe finding someone for this adventure would take much longer than two GM posts, if that's what you're worried about.

I see. i was hoping to find someone who i could use regularly, like a friendly npc character that becomes a friend, but that does make sense that it would be difficult since they would have to wait two months between jobs and then drop everything for me for a few days. unlike DanMachi, i'm not going out every few days. currently Derek isn't carrying anything too heavy, so i should be fine, but i will keep porters in mind for future adventures should i need to carry heavy supplies for some reason. .

Don't let me talk you out of making any attempts during your downtime. Both finding someone readily available or even making a friend should be possible, so please keep it in mind and bring it up again once we get there.

Oh, and the new brazier will be 12 pounds added to Derek's current gear. I forgot to mention that.
