[OOC] Noble Hubris

Hi all, hope everyone had a great new year. Couple quick thoughts upon catching up (since I do not have time for a full post at the moment):

1. Is it readily apparent what is wrong with Rolen's leg? For the repeat adventurers, is this a new injury?

2. Is a "Wickerbeast" a known creature around these parts, or just a nickname? If the latter, are there any creatures Baxan would have likely heard of/ encountered which would fit the description?

3. What can Baxan glean from Rolen's general demeanor? From what I read, he seems nervous, but I'm not sure which part of the tale is upsetting him the most?

I'm sure I'll have more thoughts but this is what struck me at first blush.

1) From outside the leg looks fine. It's an established injury from Rolen's backstory, though I am unsure if the PCs ever discussed it with him. I would leave this to the other players to remember.

2) This would require Baxan to make a skill check for me to answer. You can tell me the result OOC for either a History (INT) or History (CHA) check, your choice.

3) Same as point 2, please give me an Insight (WIS) check for Baxan if you will.

I had noticed that a few of the characters count themselves as finished with interacting with Rolen. My next GM update will extend that scene by one more post, but I promise that after that we'll move forward from it. So please bear with me.

Mindsiege, Phil is going to try Heart Sight on Rolen before he separates with the others. (I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it with Mayuri!) DC 10 CHR or Phil knows his alignment; automatic failure for celestials, fiends, and undead. The result may affect the rest of his actions.

Opposed to Mayuri, there will be no offense taken for Phil coming up to touch Rolen. Please include establishing the Heart Sight contact in your next IC post.

As for how well it works, Rolen massively fails his save. So now Phil is aware that Rolen is feeling threatened and emotionally distressed, and also that his alignment is LG against expectations.

Although appropriate from Oguun's perspective, it will take some convincing to get Rolen to have this very conversation right now. I've not fully made my mind up yet about the DC, but please add a Persuasion check to Oguun's post and let me know the result.

Not Oguun's strong point, but he got a 13 on Persuasion I put it in the same Lady Luck post as his Insight roll.

I lean slightly toward the mahout, but I'm good with the herbalist instead, and open to other alternatives. If the ones in the private conversations return with more concerns about Mayuri, Phil may be more interested in the herbalist first.

I just realized that I might have made a mistake before when I said Oguun's spellbook comes for free. It appears that it's actually part of the wizard starting equipment, which in fact does not get handed out during multiclassing.

However, I think we don't have an issue on our hands. Since Oguun invested his downtime into forging a connection with Thrella Gnarlroot, I think I'm in a position to decide that she has in fact forwarded Oguun the gold for his spellbook and is now expecting him to pay it back after this quest. Sorry about making a mistake there, but other wizard-multiclassers are going to run into this topic too and I can't do it differently than the other GMs would.

Could you please note down the 50gp debt on Oguun's character sheet? Thank you.

Funny that you should say that. I've taken the opportunity with this adventure to flesh a few things out about Westhaven, so I was mostly clarifying the canon for this adventure. Since the WM rules allow buying elephants, clearly Westhaven has elephants. In this canon, not too many of them though. Not that Phil would know, since he's not from around here and hasn't been in Westhaven long either, presumably.

But still, now that you've used the word cosmopolitan, please don't hold it against me if you're not the one to say it last.
