Maybe I should have explicitly clarified this OOC before, but there are no people on this plaza because it's very obviously not the elephant trainers' workplace. That's further inside the forest. They don't keep the elephants directly by the roadside at an intersection. The plaza simply coincides with the entrance into the enclave, but you shouldn't expect to find anybody before actually entering the enclave.

Sounds good. Make her follow the dirt path, it would be the most likely path to proceed.

She doesn't know the mahout in question and hasn't mentioned anybody asking about him. What she meant to convey is that adventurers regularly keep good relations with the enclave for one reason or another.

Just 100 feet? Then you can assume she makes her way back immediately and tells Derek that they must be further in. Assume that any further Perception checks to glimpse them from afar are no longer possible.

Hmm, how do I explain this scene a bit better? Consider that you're making a trip to the zoo and then you're surprised that you haven't found the friend that you know is a zookeeper there, but so far you've only stood around for five minutes at the zoo's entrance. While the elephant enclave is quite a bit less populated than a zoo and predominantly consists of untended forest terrain, I still think the analogy fits. Finding the mahout with your current progress would have been very unlikely. But don't worry, with my next GM update I'll proceed you into the enclave so hopefully progress will be made there. By the way, given the timing of how the scene developed, Derek would have been part of the dialogue for the last three paragraphs of my previous post. You don't need to interact with Joellen of course, but Derek has heard at least that much.

Yeah, I noticed. Basically I forwarded you through the travel of Westhaven's streets which directed you to the location and now you have yet to enter it. Hopefully that clears up any misconceptions.

By the way, the enclave isn't quite at the level of a village. While there are multiple huts, besides in the beginning they're far and few in between. The clearing where you met the worker was somewhat of a gathering space. After that you see a lot fewer people again for a while.

Basically, you've already crossed out of the living habitat of the workers after following the worker for a bit.
