As for the playoffs. Go Canes!! I root American. What the heck is an Oiler anyway? I predict a 4 game sweep by the Canes.
We put Hurricanes jerseys on all of our historical statues in downtown Raleigh . . . including George Washington . . . and Andy Griffith.

As much as I would like to root for an American Hockey Team, I have to pull for the Oilers.

The Oilers Fans are much more loyal to thier team. The canes couldn't sell out their Game 7 Conference Championship..

Also I live in Buffalo, and it is just to spite the Canes...

Yeah. Hockey is pretty low on the loyalty meter.

They probably rank something like . . .

1. Duke and UNC basketball
2. Carolina Panthers
3. NC State and UNC football
4. All other college sports (e.g. UNCW Baseball)
5. Charter school middle school soccer tournaments
6. The local Mexicans playing soccer in the park on the weekends
7. Hurricanes hockey

Meh. It´s the reason Americans can sometimes have trouble understanding people from foreign parts. If you don´t understand soccer, you can never truly understand anyone. Apart from americans, Kiwis, canadians and.... no, i think that´s everywhere that doesn´t get soccer.

It's monkey see monkey do. I don't really care if other countries like soccer over other sports, but this is America, and we live big oafs tackeling eachother. That's it.

What really pisses me off is when british people are like "You Americans are sissies with your football! We have rugby! Which is like your football without padding or helmets!"

If you want to be an idiot and get a concussion, fine and dandy with me.

Psh, I don't see any 6'8" 300 pound doods who can bench a car playing rugby. Give me the best however many guys are on a rugby team from England and I'll give you my best guys from the NFL and I assure you by the end of the game the Brits won't have a team. Can you see anyone stopping Reggie Bush? Or how about TJ Duckett? Takeo Spikes? Yeah right!

Soccer is probably the most boring sport in the world. Some people consider baseball boring, but it's nowhere NEAR as boring as soccer. About the same amount of scoring, although I don't see any 12-10 soccer games. Soccer has, what, lets be generous, 6-8 shots on goal per team for the entire game? So that's 6-8 chances to score, FOR THE ENTIRE GAME!! Baseball, every pitch is a shot on goal. Everytime the ball leaves the pitchers hand, there is a chance for a run. Can anyone say Barry Lamar Bonds? This is a typical soccer game.....

Pass...Pass...Pass...Throw in....Pass...Pass...Guy gets a run on the goal only to have the ball stolen by the goalie who is an untouchable God....Really long kick...Pass....Pass...Pass....Pass....FOUL!!!..... Pass....Throw in....Pass....OMG!! HE SHOT THE BALL!!!....Saved....Really long kick...Pass....Pass....

I think you get the point. Don't get me wrong, being AT a meaningful(key word is meaningful) soccer game is awesome, but more due to the crowd and the craziness that ensues than the actual game.

All I have to say is....F soccer!

this is the only thread i have not posted in, in 2 years. so I felt I have to say something. I know nothing about sports, But going to games is fun, if you can eat and drink beer.

The detroit lions had an old statium, the silver dome, that had alot of parking, and alot of tail gatting, it was great. NOW its down town, with no parking and no tailgating. it sucks.

thats my sports post. raa... raa.. raa... go detroit lions. and tigers too. and red wings.

Heeey, none of you have cheered for the best team in the world!

Da' Bears..

As for football, nobody believes me when I say the patriots are the best, think about, who has won the most superbowls in the past twenty years?

86-06

Pats 3
Cowboys 3
Niners 3

82-06

Pats 3
Cowboys 3
Skins 3
Niners 5

So, recently, yeah, the Pat's have been good. But the Niners, Boys, and Steelers are the winningest. Niners are 5 of 5, Boys are 5 of 8 and the Steelers are 5 of 6. The Bills have been in as many Super Bowls as the Pats. In fact, they are the only team to make it to the Super Bowl 4 years in a row. That's freakin amazing. 4 YEARS IN A ROW!!!

I point out Iīve played both rugby and (american) football. Theyīre about the same, pain wise, just in different places. The reason the 300lbers donīt play rugby is theyīd have a heart attack after the first half hour.

I prefer playing football, cos I aint fit enough to play rugby any more.

See this is what I mean about soccer. You donīt get it (not that thereīs anything wrong with that). It is great. But I guess itīs hard to convince you in a text only forum.

Ahhh . . . the old "You don't agree with me, so you just don't get it" response. I have missed you.

Oooh, oooh . . . compare him to Hitler next, then it will be a perfectly well rounded discussion.

Hey! No fair! Other way round!

Althugh I admit I could have phrased that better. What Iīm trying to say is that soccer has appeal, and is not boring to many millions of people around the world. However itīs appeal is lost on many americans such as AI. Plenty of things appeal to one person and not another.

The point I was trying, and evidently failing, to get across was that some on the mutual misunderstandings between americans and the rest of the world can be illuminated by respective attitudes to soccer (and baseball the other way).

Anyway, itīs probably cos Hitler liked soccer and english people. That makes AI right, therefore heīs wrong :

Too bad they're going to go down to The Big Aristotle and Flash!

RPxP to anyone who can tell me what I mean by that.
