Complete Sherlock Holmes, Volume One.

Good choice, I'm actually reading Volume 2 in between studying for my last finals, reading the middle books of the Wheel of Time series, and reading through the Settling Accounts series by Harry Turtledove. I have to say that despite the sometimes repetitive nature of his writings I think he is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Of course I'm already greatly interested in history, and specifically military history, so alternate history is exciting to me. Any other alternate history fans here?

I have a hard time suspending my sense of disbelief to enjoy alternate history. It almost always relies on the 'Great Man Theory', which I can't get behind.

I'm reading Commonwealth by Hardt & Negri... its kind of 'trendy', I think, but they address the same topics as Foucault, who isn't writing anymore, so what is one to do...

I did finally get around to reading Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned though. It enthralled me. The title story was great (and that link is the entire title short, by the way), but I preferred "The Retreat" and "Wild America" even more.

Currently I am reading Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind.

After that, my plan is to pick up where I left off with Terry Brooks's Shannara series.

Indeed. My favorite series so far is Gettysburg, Grant Comes East, and Never Call Retreat by Newt Gingrich and William Forstchen.

Re-reading the Dragonlance Chronicles - oh yeah, I still have the first three as first editions! 'Dragons of Summer Flame' is in one of a pair of boxes I mailed to myself. I just finished 'Dragons of Spring Dawning' yesterday, and I REALLY NEED that fourth book soon....in case the Postal Gods are listening....

Does it it count as alternate history if it's modern when the author writes it?
I am a fan of alternative history... and I was a big fan of Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels(Well, the first three at least.), which read like alternate history, in space.

Plus, I like Great Men. I plan to be one.

Reading Rimrunners by C.J. Cherryh. I've read it before, and was always a little confused by it. I discovered today that it is set in an already established universe, and is the 3rd book in the series. I hadn't read the first two. Luckily the story is standalone, so I really didn't need to read the first two to enjoy the 3rd.
