Arte lets out a soft snort at Mrith's introduction, his attention otherwise back on the fire. "I've been accused of many things in my life. Being charming isn't one of them. Talking of which, if you have no need of me then I had best ensure my sister does not cause any trouble." A quick glance towards her doesn't reveal anything untoward - she's merely talking with the same group of Children as before, drinking and eating. Either he was just trying to extract himself from the conversation or he knew something everyone else didn't about Sublime. ~MTWC

Brood nodded her head politely as Arte invited her to the conversation.
"Brood, First-Born Tal'gos," Brood responds simply. She takes a closer look at M'rith in the firelight. It was not hard to imagine that this human-born was in fact a dragon: her hair, her adornments--both seemed to shine and glow like the scales of a dragon. "You have a fine appearance as well," Brood says awkwardly, trying to return the compliment. "...Being perceptive seems to be a trait that the Unknown Gods seem to share," Brood notes, as Arte attempts to withdraw himself from the conversation, "I am hear to speak with M'rith Jenn'la Rudaa. Though about what is as much a mystery to me as are you Unknown Gods." She eyes Arte quizzically, as if to ask if he knows anything about the task that Many Faces requested of her. Somehow she doubted it. The Unknown Gods seemed as secretive amongst themselves as they were with others... |

"Why, thank you."
That she had come to speak with her for no clear reason was peculiar, and the thought was clear on her face. She was visibly amused. "Well, you just have. I hope you weren't hoping I'd be able to tell you what you are supposed to talk to me about, though! Here for a story, perhaps? Or perhaps you have one for me?" She looks at her with hungry eyes, her traits suddenly sharper. Eyes commonly seen on the hunter. One eye suddenly growing a bit more... thin. Slitted. Like a lizard's or a cat's. The other eye about halfway there. Last edited by Blue; Oct 26th, 2017 at 09:46 PM. |

Arte's comment hits the mark so exactly, that Brood can do little more for the moment than be startled. Sighing, she replies, "Very astute. But I am sure you all have a lot of practice inferring each other's actions, don't you?"
It made sense. With so much secrecy, even between the Unknown Gods, it was likely that this kind of guesswork was common place. The curiosity growing on M'rith's face was becoming more and more apparent. Brood was tempted briefly to show M'rith the coin, but hesitated. She knew hardly anything about the dragon-kin. Brood decided against it, at least for now. But why had she felt compelled to do so? Perhaps she had felt slightly intimidated, even if unconsciously, by M'rith's piercing gaze. "Ah... I figured, as Arte said, that you would be just as much in the dark as myself. But perhaps we can trade stories in either case. My friend told me that you are one of Morgan Wainraith's associates. I am sure that has offered you many a tale to share." |

"Your friend?"
She was a bit suspicious now, but couldn't see how it could backfire. And besides, a story was promised. "An 'associate' I may be, but he did not share much in terms of tales. If you are after his tales, he would be the one you'd need to talk to. I have stories of my sister's time while they worked together for Vulcar the second, king of Halva, and many more from before that time. I have a few of my own experiences since I began involving myself. But none from Wainraith's point of view." She turned, facing away from the fire and swept the floor before sitting down, and smiled at her. "If you have a specific topic in mind, state it and begin your tale. I will then answer your tale with one of my own." Mrith's attention was complete. Waiting. |

With no objection about his leaving made, Art picked up his staff and stood up. "If you'll excuse me." He gave them a slight, polite nod of the head before leaving as he'd said, walking in the direction of his sister and tapping his staff along the ground as he went. ~MTWC

"Min," Brood responded simply. She could see the skepticism on M'rith's face, and though she knew that dropping her friend's name probably wouldn't do much to alleviate her doubt. Still, who knows? Perhaps the Freeborn had met the Godling sometime during the Fiendish Invasion.
Brood acknowledges Arte's graceful exit with an inclination of her head, before responding to Mrith's challenge. Quote:
However, M'rith seemed dead set on hearing something from Brood, regardless of its quality or length. "...What makes people choose paths in life that conflict with their values?" Brood began. She wasn't really sure where she was headed, but she forged ahead anyways. Perhaps it was because of M'rith's attentive gaze, "I guess I don't understand, or perhaps have never understood. Or maybe I'm strong-willed, but I don't think so..." Brood continued rambling, "I guess my confusion began during my Swordsright many years ago. I haven't thought about it too much with everything that has happened of late but..." As she continued to speak she became more lost in her memory, and she began to relive the events of her Swordright, Brood tells an abbreviated, but detailed account of her Swordright below, more or less.laying it out in words. When Brood had finished her tale, she let silence unfold as she stared into the fire. She had relived this experience in her mind's eye many times before, but rarely, if ever, had she shared it aloud with another person. Not even her best friend Violet, though Violet did not need the tale recounted. Unsure of what to say next, still somewhat lost in her own reminiscence, Brood takes several deep breaths, feeling the wind pass softly across her cheek. Listening to the echos of her past. |

Sublime shorts again. "It's far more likely that he intends to give me a 'talk'. I may be the elder of the two of us, marginally at least, but he was practically born a fussy old man." She sniggers, pointing at the staff he is tapping against the ground as he walks. "Look, he even has a walking stick." Her metal bracers begin to peel off of her forearms as if they were made of some sort of liquid. They quickly combined, forming a surprisingly good imitation of her brother's own staff, albeit it was still obviously metallic despite the texture looking right for wood.
Arte arrived just in time to see and hear Sublime imitating an old woman with the staff, hunching over and squinting as if she couldn't see properly. "Arte, Arte, is that you, dearie?" She even added in an 'old woman' voice too. "You'll have to come a little bit closer child, my eyes aren't what they used to be." Her twin takes it in his stride with a reserved tone and expression. "I'm the child? Somehow I doubt that." His eyes glance towards Adam for a moment before returning to his sister. "Faces is up to something." Sublime seems a little put out by her brother's nonchalant response, returning her shifting metal to her forearms. "The sky is blue." She snorts at Arte's frosty expression. "What? We are playing the 'state the most blindingly obvious thing you can think of' game, aren't we?" Arte sighs, leaning on his staff. "Honestly, I don't know why I try sometimes." ~MTWC

Mrith nodded as Brood finished.
"A story bout a lack of determination bringing about much regret and grief. When hesitation thrives, the choices in life narrows down and what remains can be all you've got. Despite one's values. Thank you for the tale. In exchange, here is a tale where determination and steadfast action brought similar grief; what one knows must be done does not always compliment one's ideals, but to stray true to oneself, sometimes you have no choice but to betray a part of you held dearly in favor of another. In most of us, so the inner child perishes to let another take his place, and one no longer recognizes oneself." She paused for a moment, drew a few short lines on the ground with fingers whose pointed nails were already blackened at the tips. "For such a personal story, here is one of mine. It may be called 'The Hiltless Blade and Gilded Arrow'. Druids know that to stay in one form overmuch, one risks losing sense of the human they are for the beast the incarnate. The human inside screams its need to survive and claims the body back before long. Powerful druids have the mental and experience required to maintain the transformation for longer period of time. Now; There is a powerful druid in the Circle of Storms who became more than mere beast, and powerful though she may be, the human inside quailed before the dragon she had become, and what remained was new, and terrifying. "O' Melsyndra of the Yesterwind. A child you were not allowed to be, a woman you could not remain and so you would expect the same of your own children! Nevh, born without the blood of Crone, discarded, later to become the tool you needed for your ambitions. Mrith Jenn'la, Yoweth, Ryna Nuade... all born with the blood of Crone, testaments of your power and raised as the jewels of your legacy. A dynasty to shake the Spires and give a new breath of life to the dying Rudaa for thousands upon thousands of years. And what is to be expected when such blood is aligned to sit on a throne of stone when in their heart, true, only freedom has a voice? As the Rudaa know, violence, like lightning, can be blind and strike without purpose, oblivious to the devastation it causes. And so it was in these children. All this rage had to find a shape, and to much horror, it did" she breathed out and fire crisped the soft ground, charring the lines she had traced "and many stories this one line holds." "Nevh, blessedly abandoned, then adopted back into the fold, grieved the loss of brother, parents, friend, husband and child. What little love remained was saved for the people of the land, and so elected to betray herself at every turn by fear of betraying anyone else. Mrith, who grieved for no one, desired nothing but to betray everyone but herself so that she may be free... "But freedom priceless was bargained nonetheless. For vanity, luxury, station, and a purpose in life, one with true meaning. And for both of them, power came aplenty, tamed to serve dutifully. Because they were Rudaa, and the people of the storm exists to protect the weak, because they came from the blood of Crone which dedicated itself to that very task." She put her hands on the ground, turned the palms upward and then raised them level with her shoulders, humming a short melody. "End of prologue. Nothing of the more interesting bits, but it is needed to make sense of the rest. Already you may see the shape of your chosen theme. Ours is a story of living against what we wished for ourselves, doing things we would have preferred not to, contrary to our nature yet an important part of what we are. Because duty demands it, and when duty is not carried out, people suffer. I for one tried to reject my duty, but it ended poorly for all involved. You could say many payed the price of my rebellion, my hesitation. Nevh, however, submitted herself to it fully, and for her efforts, the pain was mostly hers to bear. She was meant to be the warrior, serving with might, and I the ruler, serving in golden chains, I suppose." She flicked a ghostly tail and sneered, looking at the ground. "But I can fight too, and war has come to us, Brood, and the stronger we are, the more there is to protect." |

Nallaul arrived fashionably late. Dressed in silks of red and black, ioun stones whizzing around his head. Speaking of his head, his hair had been recently cut and groomed by a doyenne of the Halvan Hairdressers. Nallaul cut quite the figure, with his Leonine features and over all handsomeness. There were two clear objectives for him. Find out if Xul'olin still drew breath, and get laid. It had been a rough time for him.
He spies Tinker and makes his way over to him. "Tinker! How is my favourite gadgeteer?"
