Marcello "Marc" Corand Chatty bleedin' fools. Why don't they take this more seriously? Marc thought to himself. The beast had already spotted him, so there was little chance of avoiding its notice now. He didn't see any point in trying to get close to the thing when there was a whole crowd of critters all too willing to keep its attention on them. So instead, he drew his bow, simultaneously pulling out an arrow to line up a shot. Taking aim at the monster, he slowly made his way toward the side of the beast, being careful not to get too close. Dian's spell slicks the corded roots beneath the beast, but it clutches at them tightly and keeps its footing. Its hand-like feet feel at the treacherous undergrowth in experimental squeezes, and its lips curl back in displeasure. As if to add to that, Isaac summons forth a squadron of divine eagles arrayed about the creature, all shrieking and clawing with fervor. For the most part their efforts meet firm resistance, but the two leftmost birds manage to draw blood. Munin too manages to pierce the beast's hide, though the wound he leaves is less deep than that of the eagles. Winston manages to keep his footing amidst Dian's grease, and sinks his claws into his target. The arrow Marc loosed at the cat-ape missed narrowly. The furious scuffle of feathers and fur left little room for him to make a clear shot. Almost as if in answer to that problem, the livid beast roared again and swung its arms with savage force. The two eagles that had hurt it were mauled to broken, bloody pulps; and in an instant faded back to their plane of origin. A too-human grin spread across its feline face, cunning and malice in its eyes. Rounding on Winston, it's jaws spread open as it surged forward and clamped down on his shoulder, sinking its finger-length fangs into his flesh before pulling away. Blood coating its arms, face, and chest, and it pounded its fists against its pectorals as it bellowed. OOC Battlemap, the red square is the grease spell area.   The beast saves against the grease spell. Sir Issac Bancroft "Well we can't be having any of that now..." Issac said as he pointed his fingers in intricate patters of the evil eye and the Evil Eye Hex Will Save 14 or -2 AC for 3 roundshex melted into the tiger creature's form... hopefully weakening it. Undaunted the squadron pressed their attack on the creature, even as Issac waved Munin back. No sense in getting him killed so early. Winston and the eagles pressed their advantage hoping to overwhelm the creature. "Team, a little help?"

Dian Diann're L'keith Seeing the eagles destroyed so quickly sends Dian's pulse up slightly, and the diminutive elf responds decisively. Pulling a tiny miniature shovel from her component pouch, she spreads her arms and intones eight deep, drawn out syllables of power. As each is uttered the air beneath the ape's feet shimmers in a deepening vortex or darkness and shadow until, as the last word dies away the ground itself stretches infinitely into nothing before shivering into a deep pit, forcing the ape to fall, or leap to freedom. Her spell cast, Dian whistles low and long - and seconds later a bright flash of green swoops down through the canopy. Pointing to the ape, and making a circling motion Dian directs Yarra - her dinosaur familiar - around the ape, readying her for a charge. Calling to her comrades, Dian aims for some battlefield co-ordination. "The pit is sloped, keep away from the sides and try to knock the beast into it. Isaac, can you make the creature any clumsier, or more likely to trip? And yes, I remember the wine. I also remember you sleeping through that halfling trying to rob us blind after two bottles of it! Marcello "Marc" Corand Hmm. Perhaps Marcello had misjudged the monster's movements. Making his way deeper into the grove to get close to the fight, Marcello already had another arrow in hand as he took aim once again. The tiger-ape beast roars and hoots furiously, shaking its head violently and throwing off Isaac's hex. Though the two leftmost celestial eagles persisted in this plane despite their grievous wounds, their valiant efforts to wound the behemoth came to naught. Their cohorts across from them saw more success, their talons drawing more blood from the beast. Winston, perhaps disoriented by his shoulder wound, fails to find purchase with his claws. Syritu's careful repositioning and deft stab with her spear drive its head deep into the creature's flesh, eliciting a howl of agony and frustration. Fresh blood spurts from the wound and runs down the spear's shaft for a half foot, coating it a slick red. Reaching out to steady itself against the nearby tree, it takes hold just as the magical pit springs into existence beneath its feet. Though shock plays out clearly on its face, its hold on the tree is firm as it climbs several paces above the treacherous pit. Its new height offers Marcello an uninhibited shot though, which he takes with gusto. The whistle of arrow and string sounds a half-heartbeat before the missile lodges itself in the gorilla-cat's back with a thud. Groaning and wheezing, it climbs higher in the tree in an attempt to flee the battle that seemed sure to end in its slaughter. OOC Battlemap -The red square is the Grease spell area. -The dark orange square is the Create Pit spell area.   Eagle 4 hits with one claw attack for 5 Winston misses with his claw attack Syritu hits with her long spear for 14 Tiger-Ape creature saves against Create Pit, moving to the nearest unoccupied square (5 ft. up from it's previous position, using it's climb speed to scale the tree.) Marcello hits with his arrow for 7 Tiger-Ape creature takes a Full Withdrawal action up the I/J-10/11 Tree, moving 30 ft up it's trunk and ending at an elevation of 35 ft.

Dian Diann're L'keith Pleased to see the ape stuck up the tree and no longer as much of a threat, Dian is nonetheless peeved that it's evaded both of her spells. Deciding to take a more direct approach, she pulls out a flask of acid, concentrates on it and then speaks three quick sibbilant syllables, then flings her empty hand out and points at the ape. A glob of concentrated acid shimmers into being and shoots out at the creature in the tree. "Let's finish this thing off, shall we folks?"   Status: HP: 28 / 28 AC/Touch/FF: 13/13/10 F/R/W: +3/+4/+5 CMD: 13 Position: N3, 10' up. (Anticipate full cover in this position). Marcello "Marc" Corand Marcello couldn't help but smile as his arrow sunk deep into the creature's flesh. Now we're back into the swing of things, aren't we, lad? he thought to himself. As it desperately retreated up the trunk of the tree, he moved in closer, ensuring that absolutely nothing would get between him and his target. "With pleasure," he replied to Diann're. Syritu Talec "Finish it off quickly, I agree." Syritu approaches the root of the tree as her comrades took aim and let loose at the monster ape. Blood drips to the jungle floor from above in rhythmic pitter-patters, coursing from the beast's fresh wounds in time with it's raging heartbeat. It's ragged breathing can be heard clearly from the ground, even as it ascends ever higher. Having none of that, Dian whisks a dart of acid into the feline ape's broad back, the corrosive liquid sizzling flesh and sending up an unhealthy-looking smoke from its melting flesh and fur. As if to rub salt in the wound, Marc's arrow lands right where Dian's spell had a moment before, sinking deep into the liquefied flesh. An unearthly shriek peels from the thing's throat before it's strength fails it. Tipping back from it's position on the tree, the behemoth falls backwards and plummets towards the gaping magical pit with meteoric force. A brown and orange streak, it streaks into the hole with a wet crunch. Nino steps forward from the caravan at your backs, making sure to keep a fair distance between himself and the extra-dimensional pit. "Is it... you know, done?" He asks, only to be answered a moment later by the start of wet, popping breaths from below. "Oh bless the Drunk, it's still alive. Should we just leave it and let the jungle clean up, or is someone going to make sure it stays down?" OOC Battlemap -The red square is the Grease spell area. -The dark orange square is the Create Pit spell area.   Dian hits with her Acid Splash spell, dealing 4 damage Marc hits with his arrow, dealing 5 damage The Tiger-Ape beast falls unconscious, falling 55 feet into Dian's pit and taking an additional 16 damage

Marcello "Marc" Corand Carefully stepping between the thick roots of the tree, and the plants and vines growing at its feet, Marcello peered over the edge of the strangely geometrical pit at the creature's unconscious form. He was disappointed to see that the creature had landed on its back; the arrows that had hit their mark would undoubtedly have snapped beneath the creature's weight, and were irretrievable. Ah, well. I've got plenty more where that came from. "You know, I don't think that thing's getting up any time soon, Marcello said aloud. "Kill it or let it lie, but either way, we can just wait your spell out."
