The Copper Sands

The Wastes of the Copper Sands

Bordered on the west by the Glaswelt Steepes and to the south by the Ash Wastes, the Copper Sands are a region of inhospitable badlands stretching several hundred miles across from the Hub kingdoms all way to the lands of the east and extending into the northern lands. Despite the land having little to offer beyond patches of grass and sedge, broken ridges of rock, and the occasional oasis, it is still home to a hardy people that wander the wastes from pasture to pasture with herds of goats and similar animals, eking out a living against all odds. The region is also home to one of the longest stretches of uninterrupted trade road on the continent, the great Easter Trade Road, which runs from the lands of the Hub, through the regional capital of Wahe, and onward to the edges of the eastern lands.

Except along the trade road, there are few permanent settlements within the region due to the nature of limited resources within an area. One thing any permanent settlement will have in common is that they are all built near a permanent source of water, usually an oasis. Along the trade road, most settlements sprout up around a caravanserai, which acts as a stopover for passing caravans and a market and fortified hardpoint against bandit raids for those that settle.

Wahe

Wahe: Capital of the Copper Sands

Amidst the seemingly endless wastes for miles around stands a large oasis nestled within the shelter at the center of a group of large rock formations. From the air, it would look as if a mile long plateau had been cleaved into uneven quarters with some kind of gigantic axe. The Eastern Trade Road runs right through the city and around the small lake at the center. At each end, walls 30ft high have been built with heavy gates large enough to allow caravan traffic through with ease. Within the city, the main thoroughfares have been cobbled in stone and a variety of buildings in a mixture of both wood and stone front the streets. Side streets of mostly packed earth wind behind buildings and through back allies.

One of the most prominent buildings in the city is the Palace of the Suzerain, located in the Palace quarter of the city. Here, the seemingly immortal Suzerain Vultsubai

Because of it's position as a midpoint between major kingdoms, the city also acts as a sort of national assembly, where ambassadors from throughout the region can meet and discuss news from their ends of the world, conduct trade and treaty negotiations, and arrange sharing of information.
