Edit: I have yet another question, for anyone who can answer. I've never played a mounted character before, but at this point, I'm designing the mount/animal companion for my character and was stumped on one thing.

Because it functions like an animal companion, the horse has 4 HD and gets ability point increases as it increases in HD. Already, it has gained +1 to Strength and Dexterity, and has an an ability score increase. This is all well and good...however. Because it has 4 HD, I got confused when I saw the following listed under the description of the horse:

"4th-Level Advancement

Ability Scores Str +2, Con +2."

Does that mean the horse's ability scores increase by this much in addition to the animal companion ability score increases? Or does the latter replace this "4th Level Advancement?"

BTW, On this end I am really excited about how this is starting. Its like having a whole bunch of pieces and setting them on a collision course.

Wanted to address a few things,

1) You'll notice your quite under powered atm. My goal is instead of you guys having demi-god stats and crazy legendary weapons, I plan on bumping you pretty fast with xp as well extra feats. Please bear with it, and this is more so the people not planning on using lances!

2) I like to modify rules, most of the stuff I do I've done before and I have my reasons behind it. Some new stuff, and I am always open to feedback. I have no problem trying something new and it not working, or if its not fun or challenging for the players I have no problem changing it. Feel free to respectfully give feedback as I wish to continue bettering myself as a DM, and I want to know what you like and dislike. If we as a group want this to be an exciting and long lasting campaign we need to have good communication.

3) I'll slowly roll into it, but my goal is to play as the ability scores of the npcs. An NPC wis/int 14 is going to to be playing very tactically.

4) I have the first about 3 chapters planned out but beyond that, you guys will be running the kingdom. Their is potentially two heirs, and a bunch of shady figures looking to gain power. But, I'll be rolling attack and damage in the rolling thread. If you die I wont block the dice. So if your RP'ing a knight ready to give his life for his lord....

5) I may be rolling certain checks for you, very seldomly. Appraise, Disguise, Sense Motive, Perception, are all checks I don't want you to know if you failed them. Sometimes I'll be rolling these for you and at a later date you can ask for the score as proof. I will have them available for you when they become irrelevant.

Check out the new mounted charge rule, new stuff so give first impressions.

Jat, quick question: I remember you saying something about the stats boosts before in the app thread, something about replacing them with a secret boost? Did you just mean magical stat boosts? Or also the every-4-levels stat boost?

Its not really a good secret... you'll find that you will level fast... BUT IT IS/WAS A SECRET!

@Jat- i think your ideas about private threads and seperating the group is one of the best things iv seen in any campaign idea, i was thinking about dm'ing something similar with a search and rescue team trying to find hostages forced to fight to the death. I decided i didn't have the time, writing ability, or dm skills needed :\ still havnt dm'd ever before, besides forcing my little brother and sister to play a decade ago just so i could torture and kill their characters.

While I shall leave the details to Jat, those of us similarly situated to you received suitable formal dress & fitting armor for our station. I'm guessing you'll get similar. And this does not even count the special item up to 300gp worth.
