On Phett - I was in a couple of games with him, which he notified us that he was stepping back back in Feb. At the time he said he was sticking with the games he was running.

I joined this site in 2009 under a different name because my high school group went to college and wanted to keep playing. Of them, I am the only one who stayed, changing names to Sassafrass, my then-XBox live username and becoming extremely active in the summer of 2012, while I was on a research trip in Ireland. Immediately writing on this site reshaped how I DM all my games, made me rethink the story potential of RPGs and how writing play-by-post could creative something more than just a number crunching simulator, with the right people. RPGX has always been a strong outlet for that, with good writers and creative minds at play. In 2012 I launched Carrion Crown, the longest-lasting continuously played game to make Hall of Fame, to my knowledge, with no breaks or interruptions at any point. Players from that game made multiple appearances in HoF games, whether Legacy of Fire or anything else, and are among the best writers on the site, and most importantly, inspired me to get better.

After more than a decade of continuous play on this site, I brought Carrion Crown to an end tonight after some deep reflection and the realization that factors beyond my control have driven a wedge between me and the community that has reshaped my relationship with dice. Given the nature of administration on this site I will spare the details.

To those who remain: don't get disheartened by rejection, or what seems to be an in-group or "good ol' boys" club of players and DMs that start games, end games, and start new games in the span of a few months. If you stick to it, you'll find your community and you'll grow and love one another. Or better yet: make one yourself. Play by post is an escape and worthy of your time, but you must dedicate time to it. It's an exercise in collaboration beyond the normal tabletop, whether you're writing one paragraph or ten, or even ten words. You have stories to tell: tell them. Tell them proudly. Make friends. Stand up for them when bad things happen. If someone is bad, don't shy away from defending what's right. A community is only as good as its willing to be. Don't gatekeep, but don't deny who you are. Find the balance, give the benefit of the doubt, and never doubt that real life always matters more than what we do here, but this place anchors us and makes us better people, if we let it.

Hello -

I want to announce my retirement from RPGx or at least what will probably be a long hiatus.

I joined in 2014, 9 years later and 31 000 messages I feel very emotional about leaving.

A community is only as good as its willing to be. Don't gatekeep, but don't deny who you are. Find the balance, give the benefit of the doubt, and never doubt that real life always matters more than what we do here, but this place anchors us and makes us better people, if we let it.

Sass is actually a wise man! Can't believe we both left in the same month... It's the end of an era for sure.

Oh man. Moonzar and Sassafrass, I'll miss you both. Wish you well in your endeavours and good mental health.

I've gone on a few hiatus' myself over the years (Jebus, since 05) and I always wind up coming back. Maybe one or both of you will too some day down the line.
