December POTM
Often, this season is seen as a time for giving. So... in that vein, why not give two minutes of your time, and nominate someone as a gift? It costs nothing to nominate a fellow gamer, and it means the world to them to be recognized! A few moments of time, you don't even need wrapping paper or a bow... just your kind thoughts and kind words in the nomination. This is a great way to end the year... take a moment to look over your games, and nominate someone (even yourself!) for their awesome prose. The winner of December goes into the running for Post of the Year, so it's a gift that keeps on giving, too! 'Tis the season and all.

Player: Black Jim
Game: The Founding System: Pathfinder 1. Edition GM: Wodine Reason for nomination: My favorite moments in roleplaying games are not the epic battles, the treasures the characters discover or the mysterious places they visit. They are the moments when something usually trivial, like a sound or a small object, triggers a memory that truly brings a character to life. When that memory -in this case a story the character has heard- is told as beautifully and captivatingly as Black Jim‘s character, Gulvor, does, it is certainly worth a PotM nomination. Gulvor is a bard, but he is much more than that. Above all else he is a seaman, his heart long lost to the sea and its unparalleled charm. Even as he traverses dark, underground passages far away from the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks, he never ceases to think like a sailor does. The hardships and the excitement of a life upon a ship have shaped him into what he now is and I for one am always happy to listen to the man‘s stories and shanties. I hope you are too. Player: Strangemund
Game: In the Coils of Veles System: DnD5e GM: 4eyedBadger Reason for nomination: Strangemund has created such a beautifully conflicted and lovable character in Kaz, and each new post adds a little more, a new angle from which to admire this gem. He is a cad, it's true. A liar, a womanizer, a scoundrel through and through. A real bard's bard, if you will. But he's also a genuinely good person, as much as he'd prefer not to be, and each time we see him put into a situation where his morals conflict with his self-interest (as happens in this post), we fall in love with him a little more. How did this no-good confidence trickster end up here, on a quest to literally save the world? Well, he saw a pretty lady in trouble, decided to help her out because it would make it easier to bed her, and has since been essentially the prisoner of the rest of the party; threatened, cajoled and extorted to stick with them. He never chose to be a hero, and yet in this scene we can see clearly that he cares deeply about those around him, even though they may have wronged him. He wrestles with his conscience as he is made to promise not to reveal to the party that one of their number is sick. Should he break his word and tell them so that the party member can be left behind and (he hopes) her life be spared? Or should this consummate liar keep his word? That he chooses the latter, and so believably, shows both the skill that Strangemund wields as a writer, and how deeply she envisions the character of Kaz. Link to the original post

Player: Solid Snek
Game: The Road has a Song System: Wanderhome GM: GM-less Reason for nomination: Wanderhome encourages players to build scenes together, using prompts provided by the rulebook and by each other. Really, most posts so far in the thread feel equally high-quality. I'm choosing Snek's because of the vivid sense of place that suits the whims of the flighty poet taking this place in, and creates a suite of both physical details and a palpable sense of mood that the other players can run with. Player: Yoshimi
Game: Luchador Lords of Kansas, 2072 System: Homebrew loosely based on Secret Tijuana DeathMatch GM: bananabadger Context: This story takes place in a post-Collapse Midwest of 2072, where lucha libre provides the only bright spot in otherwise dreary, dusty days of drudgery. The players are preparing for the grand title championship and must go through a final, intense training to ensure peak performance. But it isn't all Rocky Balboa moments of slamming down raw eggs and running up stairs. One of the heroes, Henry Swap, decides he must focus on his style and swagger, components as crucial as a powerslam for a top-notch luchador. To do so, he consults robot oracle Alexis while he cleans her fans and cooling systems with a pair of bellows. Reason for nomination: Yoshimi has brilliantly mastered the fine line between camp, comedy and drama in this over-the-top adventure where he plays Henry Swap, the loveable, muscular ingenu. In this post, Yoshimi plays off the story line from other NPCs and PCs (River God Kek and former rival Princess Heartbreak), then picks up the main action for his character. On the face of it, the post only had to be a simple skill-buff roll, but Yoshimi had his character embrace his earnest awkwardness and leaned into an NPC's background lore to bring this moment of rom-com luchador comedy.
