Anyone else out there willing to share their interesting hobbies?

I've already mentioned board gaming and writing, so I'll pop in a dormant one: pre-COVID, I used to collect mineral samples and gemstones. Mostly from trades and markets, but there's a few I found for myself here and there, although I never got the chance to go full rock-hound in a pit anywhere. I have a particular love for pyrite. It's better known as fool's gold, but it's a really cool mineral that forms cubic crystal structures.

thanks for rekindling it, Hotsu.

hmm, hard to tell because I've been stuck in a rut and IRL is very wild, but here are some things I enjoy doing:

- Photography : I have a nice DSLR, and just like taking pictures. My wife likes the landscape pictures I take, but I like the people & children pictures best. (at family & friends gatherings, and I share the pictures with everyone. It's not like I take pictures of random children, haha !)

- computer stuff : I've got a NAS at home, am looking to build myself a desktop PC this year (after over a decade without one), enjoy playing VR and tinkering with stuff.

- movies & music : I like spending time properly watching a movie (recent or old time classics : Everything, Everywhere all at once is a modern classic IMO, and we watched The Godfather during new year's eve) or TV show (currently discovering Ozarks, and it's really gripping !) on the couch with the wife or simply listening to music. a good way to pause the day and just spend good time elsewhere.

- books : currently re-reading the black company series, but I am also an occasional manga reader / anime watcher. (currently enjoying chainsaw man most, incredible storytelling from a talented and insane mangaka)

projects :
- cars : I have a general interest in the technical parts of cars (especially Porsches), but now it's getting personal : My father's got some Alpine A310s, one running and one he's rebuilding, and I think it's a good subject to bond with my now retired father. Hoping to go to le mans classic together this year ! Also hoping to track his running car in the first half of 2023. Just need to find a date !

- electric guitar : I started practicing, then life got crazy and I never took back. Got myself Rocksmith to help me practice by myself, so I just need to take the time to pick it up and play again.

My main hobbies aside from TTRPGs are reading, video games, and board games. I like to immerse myself in fictional worlds of all types. I used to do creative writing as well, but I haven't written anything in a while. It's something I'm always meaning to do, and then I just never do it.

I've recently picked up linoleum block printing, which is surprisingly fun. I made Christmas cards for my extended family this year from a snowy mountain scene I designed, carved and printed myself.

I'm also trying my hand at bead embroidery after my sister got me a DIY kit for Christmas. It's very time consuming but somehow relaxing despite stabbing myself with the needle fifty billion times.

Video games - got a thing for open world RPG's so that has the potential to be a massive time sink.

Reading fantasy and sci-fi. The black company was amazing and I just found out there are lots of sequels

Reading RPG rules - I've bought so many since joining here and the christmas sales

TV/Movies - again tends to be more sci-fi as there's less fantasy (less GOOD/Watchable fantasy)

Recently got the kids into mystery puzzle games like Exit and Unlock

Biggest hobby of the bunch is using up RPGX bandwidth

Yep - I've done the Malazan saga although after getting through that I decided to leave the prequels alone. Have you read them and how do they compare to the original?

I collect and use fountain pens. Don't do anything fancy with them, my favorite nib is an extra fine steel nib that is almost indistinguishable from a fine ball point once the ink dries, but it is nice to not have to put any pressure on the page and just let the pen glide.
