Althea Name: Althea Race: Wood Elf Class: Druid - Circle of Spores Alignment: Neutral Good Age: 36 Background: Haunted One Personality Traits: I have morbid interests and a macabre aesthetic. Ideal: Escape. I believe there is something beyond the world I know, and I need to find it. Bond: I'm desperately seeking a cure to an affliction or a curse, either for someone close to me for myself. Flaw: I know the ends always justify the means and am quick to make sacrifices to attain my goals. Appearance: Althea looks harrowed, her eyes sunken but alert. Her clothes are worn and torn but not to the point of tatters, covered in dirt and bits of greenery. She rarely wears shoes, preferring the feel of the earth under her feet whenever she can. She appears meek at first glance, seeming furtive with her shoulders hunched forward slightly but beneath that hides a strength born of conviction and desperation in equal measure. Only rarely does a fleeting smile cross her face. Personality: Althea is, on the surface, friendly and curious, very aware of how naive she comes across. She doesn't take advantage of it much but she also doesn't go out of her way to dispel people of that notion. She wants to do good but feels it's hard to accomplish much in this world without some concessions. But that's alright, she can shoulder the burden of that if it means some good was done. There's a certain balance to it and she takes refuge in that. Backstory:   Althea used to live in relative peace in a decently sized village deep in the woods. She learned about nature and the natural cycle that binds everything together. The veil between worlds was thin there, close to the Feywild and the primal forces of nature, but just as day and night, summer and winter, live and death are part of the world, so did the balance shift one day. The shadows that fell over Althea's woods were no longer a gentle embrace but cold and empty and with them came ruin. At first it were only occasional encounters with monsters moving through the woods, but soon they descended on her village in force. The woods were ablaze that night and though they fought fiercely, there was no stemming the tide of slaughter that washed over them and threatened to wipe out every living soul. In desperation, Althea called out to the forest and sought to channel it's power to repel the invaders, but all that answered her was the quiet, inevitable call of decay. Maybe that's all that was left, maybe it's all that she was able to reach anymore, but it answered her call. Soon spores and rot found purchase within her and spilled forth, claiming not just the monstrous attackers but everyone left in the village. Not everyone died immediately, turned into mushroom gardens and seedbeds of spores, but there was nothing she could do to help and she ran, within her the festering blessing and curse of the fungal spores. She fled into the woods and the Mist that crawled through the festering roots... RP Sample:   The ground beneath her feet is soft, but not like moss and leaves. The give is wrong, not feathery but spongy and wet. She's running and every step feels treacherous but she can't slow down. Behind her the air is thick with mold but she can't seem to escape it, every breath like silky dust. She knows it's coming from within her but stopping means accepting that. Accepting that it was she who unleashed the sea of fungus that swallowed her world and she's just not ready for that. Her feet slip on the rotten leaves and she tumbles, falling, jolting awake from her nightmare. Still panting she wipes at her face. Her hands are dirty but it's just normal filth of travel she didn't bother washing off the night before. She's in a small room, barely large enough for the straw-stuffed bed, much less a basin for washing up. She'll find a stream sooner or later or so she hopes. Gathering her meager belongings she makes her way downstairs. The small inn-room is empty, she's the only guest in days, maybe weeks and the inn-keeper and his wife hadn't even batted an eye when she asked to pay in something other than money. She gently knocks on the door leading to their chambers and waits for the middle-aged woman to open the door. "I have some more Goodberries for you, as promised. Just remember, they won't keep too long." she says, cupping a seed in her hands and letting it sprout into a handful of small red berries, careful to keep her spores from finding their way into them. The inn-keeper nods with a weary smile as she takes them. 'Thank you dear. You take care out there, alright?' Althea replies with the faintest smile of her own and shoulders her backpack. She doesn't know where she's going but there has to be somewhere in this dieing world where the rot and decay is the source for something new to sprout and grow. She just has to find and foster it.
