Maroo
left-aligned image
Name: Maroo

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Class: Oozemorph Shifter

Race: Undine (Mistsoul)

Traits: Expressive Pantomime, Witty Repartee and Cowardly

Reason for Hire: Prisoner

Description: While as a humanoid, Maroo was a light blue-skinned undine with aquamarine hair. Maroo had long abandoned the consistency that flesh and blood provides to an appearance. Now she is little more than a wobbling, morphic puddle of bloo goo that can rarely take the form of the humanity left behind.

Personality: Maroo is a kind person that had been easily ostracized by most communities for expressing sympathy or even idolizing the mindless ooze creatures. Before the change she was somewhat of a cowardly sort that shrank away from danger, loathed pain and the sight of blood spilled, especially her own. In her own way after the change, she wanted to be seen as some form of a hero, but she lacked luck.

Maroo is a sensible, if not easily frightened person. Her culinary likes are grilled fish, grain beer and honey-flavored sweets, all of which she had been incapable of tasting without straining herself to retain a humanoid form. She is quite "talkative" considering how she lost much of her voice from being a slime, Maroo enjoys even the laborious efforts to convey meaning through glorious bodily wiggling. Her remaining material joys are marveling jewelry, swimming in fresh water and napping under the open skies.

This content individual has most of their fears and dislikes amplified despite some traits of her form nullifying some issues. Maroo dislikes bitter flavors, starchy clothes and aggressiveness. This slime hates conflict and most, typically poisonous, creatures like spiders or snakes of any kind.

History: Born in a coastal undine community within the borders of Tanqueax known as Shellwash, Maroo lived in a somewhat comfortable, if not tribal childhood. The village of Shellwash was home to near ten distinguished families of Undine and Maroo was apart of the wide branches of the Mistwalker clan. The clan in recent years has a nice reputation of providing spiritual wisdom to the conglomerate of undine peoples, but when, upon Maroo's birth, she was divined to have no potential in becoming a seer or a priest of any sort, her standing in the loose caste system was lowered considerably. Though her mother was allowed to bear the surname of Mistwalker, Maroo herself was denied such an honor, and had lived for years under no name at all, until her father decided to hand down the names of one of his grandparents to her. The naming wasn't treated with much honor or ceremony like some of Maroo's extended family did for they had promise as seers or sorcerers. Even in the advancing modern times of the outside world, talent with magic was a premium for a well-woven community of under a thousand persons not under direct rulership of monarchs. As one of the many without talent, Maroo had to develop a trade, to learn under someone else. Even while hearing stories of great tribal legends such as the Tidal King Marouq from a thousand years ago, or the more recent, dead war hero Andarl Seakarl, she could not be inspired by the work she was pressured into. As a fighter, she was found early on as a feckless coward with lacking discipline. As scribe, she lacked concentration to continue learning letters. As a craftsman, she seemed to be all thumbs. The best she could do is aiding the stable masters of Shellwash, Kokori, the undine in charge of the sea creatures and, a relatively foreign sight, Georgio, a human that owned likely the driest buildings on the outskirts of shellwash. From both she learned of a variety of creatures of the land and sea, as well as getting closeness with a traveler that appeared now and then to their shores.

In time, Maroo developed something of an ambition. It wasn't much, but cleaning up horse pens and tending to aquatic farm beasts was growing rather tiresome. It wasn't that she was ungrateful for her "Uncles", Korori and Georgio, it was more from the treatment Maroo got from the other growing Undine, and some children. They acted much like ruffians that frequently disrupted her duties and caused no small amount of injury or humiliation. That is when she began snooping on the sea druid cabals from her home territory to learn something not martially inclined. As a novice in many ways, she was easily caught on her second time snooping. But within the circle there were some, less ambitious sort, that showed sympathy for her, and offered for her to learn from them instead as an apprentice, despite the lack of talent for magic. Learned she did, spending several years learning druidic and some measure of empathy for natural creatures. However, she swiftly found that the bonding with nature required seemed too strict for normal druids. She soon was turned over to the guardians of the circle, the warriors of druidism, the shifters. By the time she reached the end of her teachings, she was taught the arts of how to bond her form, and sympathies with aspects of nature. Maroo, still young and creative-minded, decided to place her beliefs and empathize with one of the hardiest, yet simple creatures known to her, slimes.

The following day after the shifter rituals, Maroo was gone in a sense. Her physical form had broken down to the form of the "animal" of her empathy, and no easy work turning back. When her new body was discovered, there was the immediate threat of violence upon her slumbering form. Quivering and focusing really hard revealed her identity, but there was much confusion and animosity bred from the path she had chosen. When it was discovered that Maroo could not help herself but to dissolve once more into a puddle and lost all bonds with most natural creatures, the circle pushed her out and gave her a task to undo what she had done to herself.

So there Maroo was, a slime on her own, lacking much satiation or exhaustion from the quivering rolling of her gelatinous flesh, going on an adventure. Maintaining what skills she learned as a being of bone and muscle, but forgoing speech and any ease of holding objects there was much difficulty found traveling the roads. Having to trust in complete stranger's abilities to discern the retreating, slippery form before them as one of non-violence was difficult. Though the undines of her own home treated her new form with no small amount of disgust, Maroo honestly believed the people of the Republic that she heard so much about would fare much better with her. Upon announcing herself as some small curiosity to the closest city she wandered upon, Auberdine, there she earned herself a day of rest. That was until some misunderstanding led the innkeeper that discovered what was once a savagely dressed undine the following day, was some sort of were-slime that, by his accounts, was eating upon his furniture. There was much debate about what to do about a sentient slime. Some merchants wanted to keep Maroo in captivity to train for some kind of circus, some priests thought of Maroo like the innkeeper did, some werecreature that could bite humans and turn them into wereslimes, and most adventurers were simply offering to kill her. Being a slime, it was, with great difficulty that the local government imprisoned her. Typical cages weren't built for boneless bodies and, after Maroo was caught in her first attempt to "tiptoe" away, they found a nice crate with small airholes to hold her in until someone with authority decides what to do with an intelligent slime.

Unique Goal: While any prisoner yearns for freedom after years of incarceration. Maroo had a desire to be a hero, but no concrete goal about how to obtain it. Now, thanks to the offer of a pardon for charting out some islands, Maroo seeks to gain recognition for a great deed. This dream was mostly inspired over her long lost great grandparent known by his title "Master of the Seas" for he had tamed a great number of legendary beasts of the sea. His acquired name was Andarl Seakarl, the generation beneath him, however did not hold much confidence in his name and split up into their own clans to acquire families of their own. His heirlooms had been lost among his descendants or sold to foreigners. Most of her great grandfather's panoply was lost to the tides with his death many years back. Perhaps, one time she can become a local legend as he was.

Three Trivia Tidbits:
-The first night Maroo lived on her own, she lost all of her food supplies to a group of crabs.
-Before becoming an ooze, Maroo was a thin, near anorexic undine through her formative years.
-Maroo's only possession is a carved coral mask that has been said to have been owned by her great grandfather. Though she cannot wear it, or any clothing for that matter, she can still hold it comfortably in her skin, no guard dared reach in to a slime's body to take it.

Just so you know, you can take that second application for "Phillipe Swifte" off the chart of characters. That guy was made as a joke. He's a meme!

Yes, I'll add this to the add, but for now...

Lady Pierra De CallierBy no means a typical sight in the human-dominated courts of the Tanqueax Republic, Pierra is the eldest daughter of Duke Demos De Callier, the only child of his first wife. Her mother died when she was very young, and the Duke's second wife ensured that it was her children that were named as heirs to Duke Demos and not the half orc. At first, this suited Pierra herself. Her love lies in academics, not statescraft. Her father became a key senator in the Republic, especially handling foreign affairs, and it is through him that she discovered the Paku Isles. For reasons only known to herself, the island fascinated her, and now she has blown most of her allowance on an expedition to the dangerous but fascinating isles. She is a remarkably un-orcish half-orc, nerdy, socially awkward and introverted, but there is a bit of the orc fire in her determination and confidence. She is very secretive about her exact reasons for wanting to go to the Paku Isles.

Lucius Viridio
The orc blood is so diluted its almost not there but there are some signsHalf-Orc, Male, Mid Twenties, Neutral Good
Bard with Archaeologist archetypeServant of Lady de Callier

Character Sheet: LINK

Defining Traits: Fortunes' Favored

Reason for Hire: Servant: You have worked within the de Callier household for a long time. You have been incredibly helpful to Lady de Callier in particular, and while you are her servant, she is more likely to call you a friend. Your time in the de Callier's service has also taught you the true value of things.
Benefit: Lady de Callier has a Friendly Attitude towards you at the start of the game. Appraise is a class skill. When selling treasure, you gain an additional 5% over the amount of GP you would normally get.

Description:
Lucius is what one would think of when considering a high placed servant, he is meticulously groomed, a inherent sense of style, and has a presence of one used to dealing with those in power. Thick curly black hair frames a strong jaw on a well balanced face, with dark brown eyes that have a steady and impassive look to them and often take on the mood he is expressing. He moves with great confidence, a presence that is unmistakable when he wants it to be but is equally adept at fading into the background when necessary so that those he works for can draw the attention to themselves instead, it is one of his more useful talents. His clothing tends towards darker colors and is often more plain, but it is no less as fine as others in its tailoring and accented stitching, those times when he is armed he favors those of a more elegant nature, and from observation its clear he is familiar enough with their use.

Personality:
People often mistake servants for those who lack ambition of their own and are content serving the needs of others, but those that are the best of servants such as Lucius are certainly ambitious and see their terms of service as nothing more than a means to an end and much like an apprenticeship one might serve under a master of their craft. Lucius wants his own power beyond that of those he serves, to achieve it he pushes himself hard and is willing to do what it takes to achieve his goals, he still has a sense of honor and a code of what he believes in but at times one must do what is necessary to continue being useful. He connects well with others and establishes relationships with others that he hopes will serve him well in the future, he is guarded though as he knows others can be equally as ambitious and its not always easy to know who is doing just what is necessary. His favorite things include fine wines, games of skill or luck and the accomplishment of a task before him. Not surprisingly like most he has a few fears of his own that include failure and loss of position, but he also has some vanity and disfigurement or permanent scarring is certainly a nightmare that haunts his dreams.

History:
He was born into the service of house de Callier, his mother was a cook in the kitchen and his father was a butler, though as a youth he spent more of his time in the kitchens than anywhere else where he might have been under foot. Their employers were nothing if not generous in many ways, the food was good, and they ensured their staff were well clothed as well. He learned his letters and numbers from his mother who often did much of the tallying and kept the books for the kitchen, while his father taught him much about how to deal with those in power, he was practically groomed for his life to come. As he got older he took on chores of his own, and even was companioned with younger members of the house to keep an eye on things, as he seemed to have a knack for keeping people out of trouble. He garnered a reputation as somebody who toed the line, was responsible and didn't need to be directed at all times which is a trifecta of traits that were useful to the house. He caught the eye of the House's chief steward as promising, and was frequently given more and varied opportunities to test his mettle, all of which he took to with gusto.

It was almost a disappointment when he was permanently assigned to Lady Pierra de Callier, as she was lacking in favor within the house, but before long he had tossed that notion aside and found her out of the box thinking and more scholarly pursuits something new and intriguing compared to traditional politics. The Chief Steward was clear that Lady Pierra needed somebody that understood more traditional politics as she paid it little mind when she could, and that while she was currently not the heir to the title still held sway enough with her father. More than that he enjoyed spending time with her as well, she was lest cold and calculating then the other children of the Duke, and a friendship has somewhat developed between the two of them to some degree. When Lady Pierra began talks of an expedition to the Paku Isles, there was no question that he would be accompanying her so that she might had a trusted companion on her venture.

Unique Goal: A new set of lands is an opportunity for Lucius to achieve that power on his own as there is a good chance that Lady Pierra de Callier will eventually need to return home, and when she does she will need somebody to oversee her ventures here, or an ally that could be counted on when she returns. Lucius is hoping that if he can establish the right connections and be successful in their endeavors she might offer him the opportunity to make of it what he will, establish a minor house with ties to the de Callier name that he can mold on his own and eventually work towards being a great house of his own name.

Three Trivia Tidbits (optional):
1) While he often appears to make his decisions based on knowledge and calculation, more often than not when there is no obvious solution he leaves it luck, the flip of a coin, the roll of a dice or something other arbitrary event.
2) He carries a deck of cards and a set of six dice with at almost all times, and rolls them or deals out cards randomly when sitting idle and left to his own devices. He doesn't appear to be playing a specific game, or at least nothing obvious.
3) He keeps notes of his own but written in a language that is indecipherable

Tempting but as Runetide said Gobta's a low key badass too. That's some big shoes to fill and I don't know if Cookie is up for it.

Lady Pierra De Callier seems to have quite the story behind her; not personally per say but as to how a Human Duke was married to an Orc. Was it star crossed lovers? Was it a political bid to satisfy a mighty war tribe? So many interesting possibilities
