Physical Description: Alston is a 35-year-old gnome with medium wavy auburn hair. He wears a pince-nez that is able to adjust light refraction, so that he doesn't need to have an extra pair of reading glasses (squinting happens every once in a while). He has a satchel at his waist that holds a quill, some parchment, and ink. He wears a white button-up shirt, a dark-green vest, and a pair of brown boots that have been well-worn from trudging back and forth within a library.

Personality: Alston is inquisitive; it seems like books call out to him to be read. As someone who believes knowledge should be preserved, it's very hard for him to pass up on any tome when they could contain long-forgotten knowledge. Giving knowledge to those who ask for it is also important, as that also helps preserve it.

Expectations: I honestly don't know what to expect; it's a novel approach in regards to RPing for me. The most out-there 5e deviation I remember reading was a game where people didn't roll stats but tried making skill checks and seeing which were successful or not and deriving stats from those. I'm getting into intrigue a lot more, so I hope this game has a fair share of it.

Ah, so even the players themselves don't really know their character's background? That's an intriguing idea, I like it a lot!

Appearance At first glance, Simon is a quiet man, almost lethargic, happy to stay quiet and observe the world. Those who take a closer look, however, see the visage of a haunted man. His fiery brown eyes constantly scan his surroundings, as if Simon is perpetually looking for the answer to a question he has forgotten. His rosy, round face is tan from hours spent labouring under the sun. An inner disquiet causes Simon a constant nervosity, reflected in a sheen of perspiration across his forehead and a greasy darkening of his dark blond curls. Uneven stubble covers his chin and cheeks, the hallmark of a man who's responsibilities leave no time for careful maintenance of one's appearance.

Simon wears loose-fitting clothing, sturdy yet comfortable. He can usually be found wearing a long white vest and dark brown pantaloons, both a size or two too large for the man, as if he has recently lost quite a bit of weight. A greenish leather longcoat and high black boots complete his outfit.

Personality
Simon is a quiet, contemplative man. He believes that the world of the living is coming to an end- that mankind must either find a way to ascend- through meditation, devotion and study- or perish and fall into obscurity. Simon feverishly searches for the answers to life's questions, hoping to find an answer before it is too late.

Despite his pessimistic worldview, Simon is a friendly, compassionate sort. To him, the doom which awaits us all makes everyday strive seem pointless- all we can do is prepare for the inevitable, either by searching for answers, or enjoying ourselves while we can. And, truth be told, Simon does walk both these paths. When he is not lost in contemplation, Simon prefers to spend his time in merry company, with good food, better wine, and song and dance worth remembering. Every experience is worth savouring, and fear has no place in a heart set on appreciating all the wonder offered by this world.

Expectations
What drew me to this game was the mention of puzzles, Big fan of Doctor Who!time travel and mystery- all things I greatly enjoy in the campaigns I play in. I like that you mentioned the game will be about more than simply rolling dice- to me, the most interesting part of roleplaying is getting to know the characters, both your fellow players' creations and your own. The best games are those in which the players spend a lot of thought on fleshing out their characters, so that they feel real and interesting. I think this game certainly challenges the players to get invested into their character- figuring out who they are seems to be an important aspect of the game.

That said, I'm really excited to find out which direction this game takes!

Name: Arthur “The Broken one” Korvos

Appearance:
Arthur is a spectacle to behold. He draws in both angst and wonder upon sight. A marvel of two worlds colliding on the canvas.
From top down he is unique, brandishing a tri brimmed and pointed black hat with tiny bat wings attached. A midnight scarfe is usually wrapped around his neck, covering his face and sealed under his dark black and gray robes. Every piece of his visage is unique, with inlaid patterns of gold embroidery or tiny jewels hidden throughout.
Arthur is a slim and petite man. In some eyes he would even be considered frail looking. He stands no more than 5’6” tall and weighing 135lbs at most. He has ghastly pail looking skin and without a hat has a head of no hair. He does his absolute best to keep his skin completely hidden at all costs.

Personality:
The word unique comes up again. Arthur is two halves of a person, both working together and fighting each other, all at the same time. Every decision and aspect of his behaviour derived of the arcane magics within him, tugging at him in different directions. Two halves trying to occupy the same space. Not split personality persee, just enough confliction within his own mind to generate a very strange and un usual persona at face value.
He is quirky and fun loving most of the time. He is at heart practical joker and enjoys laughs at others expense, but not at his own.

Expectations:
I dont expect much other than communication and kindness. If IRL gets in the way, everyone just needs to communicate that, not ghost, and work through it as a team.

Physical Description: Jarana is an eladrin, fairly young at 176 years old. His appearance changes in relation to his mood and emotions, all relative to the four seasons. If he is angry, his appearance may reflect a reddish-orange skin and hair tone (summer), whereas if he is somber or sullen, his skin and hair might have a cool blue tint (winter).

Personality: Jarana is reserved, but charismatic by nature. He relies on this charisma as well as his patron-gifted affinity for the arcane to interact with others.

Expectations: I do not have expectations. I just discovered this site, and am incredibly intrigued by the idea. I have been a DM for several years and am looking to finally join a game as a player.

It's been a while since I've done PbP, but I'd like to get back into it and I thought this game idea was interesting. The note on equipment just says "trinket"; does that mean that we'll only have that in our inventory when we wake up, or is it on top of everything else?

Alignment: Neutral

Concept: This character comes from a more technologically advanced age of man, where genetic manipulation is readily available and even commonplace. She was designed to be the perfect specimen when it comes to hunting, tracking, wayfinding, and performing other outdoors activities. As a hot-off-the-press super soldier who lacks the conditioning she would normally have gone through to turn her into the perfect tool, she will awaken to the world like a newborn babe and see every new experience as curious and amusing most of the time.

Expectations: I tend to enjoy the more roleplay-oriented, thought-provoking type of gameplay as equally as I do combat, so this type of game should be right up my alley. I've seen a bunch of other players here express how they'd like to have their characters talk to each other to figure themselves out through their relationships with each other, and I really like that thought, which is one of the reasons I decided to make an application.

Name: Autokhthōn the Lesser

Background: During the Atlantean Epoch on Earth, Dragons were closer in vibration to humans.

All Atlanteans could see Dragons along with other Elementals as well as they see other humans.

The Dragon consciousness was looked after by Dragon Priest and Priestesses who trained in the Atlantean Dragon temple and were taught by the Dragons their magic and role to support the leylines of Earth.

They also worked in a symbiotic relationship of mutual respect. Many souls were drawn to work with the Dragons to assist with Earth healing and to help overcome blocks in a soul’s progression on the Earth plane.

Atlantean Dragons would perform Dragon healing sessions where Atlanteans would come in large groups to the Healing temple for massive upgrades of consciousness and also to help people work on specific vibrational frequency issues in their energy field.

You have studied dragons and their lore for many years. You can automatically identify locations built or used by dragons and can identify dragon eggs and scales by sight.     I enjoy the company of others and I'm very social.
  • Ideal: People. I'm loyal to my friends and family, no need for any one else.
  • Bond: I do good deeds to be admired for my faith.
  • Flaw: Once I give it, my loyalty is blind.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Time Period: Atlantean Age (sometime between 10000 and 9000 BC)

Physical Description: At 6'1" and 170 pounds, you could say Autokhthōn is on the skinny side. He has curly brown hair but he ritually shaves it off at least once a week, but daily if he can. The priest's eyes are hazel and he has a dark complexion. Autokhthōn prefered clothing is robes. He likes whites, reds and platinum so his clothing usually are made of these colors. Were he to remove his robes, the priest would revel copper scales going from the upper arm around to the lower back.

Personality: Autokhthōn is usually even-tempered and sociable; but when his ire is arised, watch out. He likes to tell jokes and riddles. The priest enjoys a good joke, riddle, funny story, or any form of good humor or wit, but becomes annoyed if someone doesn't laugh at a joke that they made or take their pranks well. Autokhthōn is especially fond of bards, and he appreciates their company enough that he often asks them to join him in his travels. He keeps few friends but those he does choose as friends have his complete and utter loyalty, too much so some would say.

Expectations:
  • To begin with I expect the Tomb of Horrors with less traps and more puzzles, and I'm cool with that as just hacking and slashing can get monotonous.
  • The people in the game should be responsible. If you can't post for a while, it only takes a minute to convey that to the group. Just disappearing, is just so sophomoric.
  • It would be nice if everyone took a sec to think things through instead of just doing impulsive things that can hurt the whole party.
  • And applicants should seriously think about it- if you can't do the post rate listed, don't apply. I'm DMing a game right now where a guy barely posts once per week when the advert clearly stated that 2 (3 preferred) posts a week was expected; very aggravating.
  • It's a game. Have fun. If it ain't fun, it ain't worth doing.

@RuneKnightI really dig the Project Lucid concept. And really, some government on Earth right now might be delving into genetic manipulation to create super soldiers. Which is quite scary.


@JrodThe juxtaposition between a celestial patron and a connection to the Planes of Shadows is quite intriguing.


dr kekyllDuring the Atlantean Epoch, they supposedly had airplanes, submarines, etc. So that's another time period to choose from.


@briarThe more I think of this world concept, the more I like it. I may become a thief and borrow the premise for a campaign at home. Kudos!

Common- how will you handle it... It's probably a descendent of either English or Mandarin (depending how history goes). The language Atlantean, if they existed, spoke is probably an ancient extinct language in the Graeco-Phrygian family or proto-Mayan depending on which thesis on Atlantis you believe. How would my character know a Common language from an epoch more than 22000 years ahead of his time? Does the magic that deposits the characters in the future also impart the Common language into the head of those affected?

@Shula yeah, if you've ever played Chrono Trigger, 1200 AD Zeal is a similarly themed epoch. That's the one I was leaning towards since it lends itself to blending magic and technology rather than having to pick one.

@Shula Thanks; I usually come up with a general build for my characters before developing their backstory from those choices. Based on my calculations, my character may eventually end up with about 7 Expertise...s? Expertises? My point is, she's would be really, really good at this one field, so a genetically modified human sounded like the logical conclusion.

Class: Up in the air. I see Morse as scrappy and tough, but am open to change the specifics to suit our party.Fighter
Description: Morse is a hawkish man, thin and angular, with dark and distrusting eyes. He has short brown hair that is matted from a lack of care. When he woke, Morse found himself wearing a long, battered leather coat with boots and supple gloves; all of an early Victorian style. When speaking, he tends to be stark and grim-humored, and acts with measures of caution and conviction. Morse knows not why, but in his heart lurks a sort of desperation. It urges him to move, to do.

About Hitch: I'm expecting a fun game. I have always been a role-player above all other aspects of the hobby and am fond of learning lore and putting my characters in terrible danger. Recklessness breeds a fun caution forgets. And it gives my fellow players just reason to harangue me.

I expect this game will have quite a few interesting concepts and mechanics that will make it different from a typical D&D game. I'm all for that! I love DMs who workshop and bring their own spice to the table. As well, I am exceptionally open to the 'mystery protagonist' style and look forward to the screwballs that get sent our way.

I have been playing games for 5 years now and appreciate the romantic elements of any game I play (as romanticism vice romance). Tolkien is a big inspiration for me, as are Howard and Robert Jordan.
