some people might feel bad about voting for themselves, but yet not want to vote against themselves either. Last month, I did not cast my own vote until it was clear I would not decide the contest for myself. In this case, had I participated, Iwould have abstained. Of course, that position was forced on me even though I wanted to vote by a little timezone mixup only part.

That's sort of what I did. I didn't actually think my story was best, so I was going to vote against myself, but I didn't want to vote before I knew if I'd influence the outcome against myself. So I waited... Then voting was finished already! Oops.

Ah well, the voting isn't as important as the writing and the reading, so no worries. It's nice to win, but I like the feedback better than anything else. I'm pretty happy to just have people read my stuff...heck I hand my stories to my 8th grade students to read, just to get feedback. I drive my fiancee crazy shoving endless stories under her nose. Heh.

Personally I don't need to win to feel good about my writing. If it gets as far as being posted, it passes my exacting standards for "this is good enough to show someone", which I've been told is likely a far harsher review than anyone else could ever give it.
Speaking of which, I'm almost done shredding and rebuilding my February entry (again). I'll probably post it this weekend. |

There, I'm just going to let go of it and say "done." I don't think it came out as well as "Day One", but it's not bad.
![]() Maybe I should wash more of the polemic out of it... Nah. Last edited by The Jaded; Feb 22nd, 2011 at 01:42 PM. |

Wow, seven votes already. I haven't even finished reading them. I'd better get cracking.

Being contrary, of course when you mention subterranean exploration as a theme I wonder how I can fit a zeppelin into the thing somewhere. I tried to write this one as the protagonist thinks - that is, not thinking ahead or planning anything. Your call as to how that turned out.
