1. Father Finn owns a cart with his brewing supplies on it and a mule named Daisy to pull the cart. I have taken the costs of the cart and mule from my personal gold. Father Finn will walk along side his faithful mule (despite my earlier post ![]() 2. Special Precautions: None for Father Finn. None of his spells would qualify as things that could be cast all day and be helpful. He will remain with the main party with his cart and help keep the general spirits up of everyone in the group with a kind word, gentle smile, etc. †

1) Mercy owns a strong 'heavy' horse. She rides him when she needs extra speed or wishes to make a certain impression. Other times she walks alongside it, and merely has it carry her supplies of arrows and limited personal possessions.
2) No special precautions. Mercy has Symphony, who stays with her near the front of the procession. Once away from the immediate area of the Fort, she swaps her instrument for her bow, the better to defend those under her care.

1.) Quinn has a light horse (combat trained) that he will use from time to time on some of his longer ranged scouting trips.
2.) Sounds like you already have him covered!

Nyte doesn't own a cart or anything, he'll either travel on foot or on someone else's vehicle. Most likely Mercy's if she allows him to. If not, I guess I could buy a mount. Never was one for mounted combat though. Also, Nyte is hyper-vigilant, and will always be on his guard.

No cart or horse for Jarek, though I have enough money left over that I could easily buy a couple of them. He has a number of divination and utility spells but most are of too short a duration to be up very often.

Sounds good, and about what I expected.
@idilippy Is there some RL stuff going on with you? I'm curious since your post rate has lagged slightly. I want to make sure I'm not leaving you out or doing something you don't like... Edit: Will update later this evening... the posts look fun. Last edited by roaddog41; Feb 11th, 2011 at 09:35 AM. |

Yeah, RL has been rearing its ugly head, not anything in this game, so far I've really liked everything you've done in the game. The two challenges at once threw me for a bit, but I think it's an interesting way to have challenges while moving in pbp while not dragging out the travel time too much.
Yesterday I mostly caught up on real life and managed to get posts in almost every game I'm in or DM, but not this one. I've got a post in the works now though to answer the two challenges, should be up before I leave for class.

Sounds good, and I'm glad its not me...
OOC knowledge none of these challenges are particularly dangerous... well Amos' is a bit, but he was the silly bugger who went off all alone. ![]() I'll update a bit later. Got to finish an essay first. |

Honestly, the multiple challenges presented at the same time throws me off a little bit. I'd personally prefer to take them one at a time in the future, even if it does mean we move a little slower, unless the events themselves are actually occurring at the same time game time.
After all, one never knows when an 'earlier' challenge might leave a positive or negative condition that might affect a 'later' challenge, or simply a state of being that would affect opinions or attitudes.

I see... well it is an experiment, lets see how it goes before we make any decisions.

Hmm, just to chipe in, i actually liked the idea... since it is supposed to be minor challenges and not life and death decisions... i think the only "effect" of the challenges would come into evidence once your at the fort, like loss of a cart or two of goods (or one or two of your retainers) you will have to deal with once your castlebuilding. Maybe a slight redefinition/ooc explanation would help things. I think especially for a castlebuilding game its a good way to get a dense story in and making progress at the same time... just my five cents. (and i seriously appreciate the discussion, because i was already thinking about doing something like this in a game of my own...)

True, it's not a life or death situation at all, and it lets us move faster with challenges, which is interesting. However, when thinking up two completely different responses to things that happen weeks or days apart on the same journey it's a little jarring to the flow of the story. It also seems deterministic, as if whatever we do has no effect on where we go next.
It'd be different for castle-building, where you could say that in six months there are x number of challenges to fulfill, how and in what order do you want to face them? We could, for example, be told that we need to work on our defenses, clear fields for farming, set up shelter for our followers, scout the nearby area, and establish a watch/guard rotation and have x number of weeks to do that. In that case, we would still seem to have some influence on how the challenges work out, maybe we tackle our food supply first and have to deal with a monster that wanders into the area unseen and unhindered by our neglected defenses, or we could work on our settlement's defenses and scouting and need to deal with rationing our food supplies until crops start to come in. I don't think any of us would be put off at all by being given multiple challenges that way. And maybe we're thinking too hard about this, I've never run into anything much like this before so it could be that after doing it this way a few times it won't feel weird. The closest I've come is playing in a game where there was an in character "campfire" thread where the players could role play while the adventure was progressing at a completely different pace.

You make some good points, ones that I will keep in mind for the future.
