Aerial AlarmThroughout the numerous days of transit Haruka had amassed sheafs of calligraphic works ranging across a variety of subjects: the champions; their foe, god; the sky above; and the sea below. Her most recent was a flashy collection of haphazard and emotional strokes spelling out "Fighting Spirit" in the Kitsune script. While fresh ink and paper served well to whittle away the hours of travel, only so much time could be spent inside a cabin, especially with the unique panorama of the upper deck.

In the early morning of the tenth day, Haruka overheard some crew members speaking of the approaching coastline, and went above to watch the long line of green land creep over the horizon. She thought to herself that it wouldn't be long now until their fleet made its way to homeland and its capital, Itsuji Kiko. That nearly brought a smile to her face, though she knew that their mission would prevent the champions from fully enjoying the hospitality her land had to offer.

While she watched the lush greenery pass far below, Kerzumal's high flying cry of alarm snapped her to attention. Scanning the distant sky for his cause for concern, she set upon the beast that was headed towards them. Dragon! she thought, lips drawing back in a silent snarl. It was far off still, but it wouldn't be long before it was upon them. She doubted it would go through the trouble of flying this high unless it meant them harm.

Reaching into the pouch hung from her sash, Haruka grasped a hawk's feather, a pinch of bear fur, and a paper sachet filled with granite dust and powdered diamond. With the components palmed, she moved her furred hands through a sequence of different gestures and intoned the rolling words of her spells. As she completed them one after another, Stoneskina silvery sheen surrounding her body, Flyshe felt the weight of her body rise off the wooden deck, Shielda pane of force shimmering into existence ahead of her, and Bear's Enduranceher heart began pounding faster as oxygen-rich blood perfused her muscles. Her last set of hand signs and strange words Mirror Imagereflected her form all around her, as though she were being viewed through a kaleidescope.

Drawing her blade Tamakakyou from it's sheath and holding it before her, she Arcane Poll: Weapon Enhancementchanneled arcane energy along the length of it and exhaled sharply. "Mu!" Way of the SamuraiShe breathed the empty syllable, clearing her mind and focusing her body to the task at hand. Her face cleared of the alarm and anger she had felt on sighting the dragon. If the great beast came looking for a fight, they would give it one.

Gnawing on a piece of meat in his cabin, it took Durzo a moment to realize that what at first he took to be a gust of wind was actually someone yelling. Quickly striding toward the wall and putting his ear against it. He could hear what sounded like the Silver ring yelling “Alarm. Alarm.”.

Exiting his cabin and signaling for Vel’kor to follow him. “Ten bloody days and not a single attack. I was starting to get worried that the God might not be hunting the Herald after all.” Vel’kor just rumbled, seeming uninterested in talking.

Not hearing any specific sounds of battle he opted to casually head up to the main deck, First, Mage Armor on Vel'kor 11hrs. Secondly, Barkskin Shared between Durzo and Vel'kor 35 minutes.casting some defensive spells along the way. After all it would be rather rude of himself to show up to a fight unprepared. Assuming about 24 seconds have past since hearing the alarm.Durzo leaped onto Vel’kor and drew Alcor as soon as entering onto the main deck. Deckhands were running around in every manner of directions, getting into position for something approaching the airship.

Looking out past the commotion, he saw it. Keeping calm as the military had taught. He couldn’t help from being slightly awed of what he was seeing. Casting another spell his hands flew in a myriad of designs, and the magical words he spoke resounded in the same unnatural tone of Vel’kor’s voice. His body even began glowing with the same light. Open hand making a final wide ark before suddenly slamming down. Evolution Surge, Greater. Evolution 1 - Flight, (4pts for magic flight, perfect Maneuverability. +1pt for extra 20ft speed) Evolution 2 - Skilled, Fly (1pt, +8 fly class skill). The light rippled through Vel’kor before both shot into the air.

Cavalier's Challenge - Target Green Dragon, duration until death."Carai an Vendra'zun! Carai an Eioden!” Durzo bellowed in Draconic as they shot up into the air and toward the Green Dragon.

Green Dragon! FULL HEALTH
AC: 31 Touch AC: 5 Flat-Footed AC: 31
Speed: Fly 240

The Airship FormationThe shape hurtled westward, at a vector just tangent to the balloon of Touch the Heavens, barrelling over it while unleashing a terrible gout of acid from its mouth in passing, a ferocious roar bellowing from its open mouth along with the globs of burning fluid. The liquid sizzled against the treated canvas surface of the balloon before rupturing, sending plumes of gas upward from the rend in the membrane. Counterforce threw the bulk of Touch the Heavens straight down, hurtling toward the ground.

Already crossing over the Divine Downfall toward the hull of Sky Servant, the shape resolved itself as an enormous, irridescent, scaled verdant serpent, a wily old Green Dragon. The reptile's eyes darted from place to place, seeking its next targets of opportunity.

KerzZooming through the clouds, Kerz was perfectly placed to see the terrible destruction wrought by the dragon's foul breath. He watched, helpless as the airship's balloon, once its source of lift, became its doom. Immediately he felt the desperate desire, the pull to save someone, anyone, on the crashing vessel. But he was no sorcerer. Even augmented by his magical boots he was too slight to catch anyone. No. The only thing he could do, what he HAD to do, was protect the other ships.

Surprise Round: Charging as a standard action. I have my weapon out, and I'm restricted to a standard action, so I can. Rolls below. Dealt 52 Nonlethal Damage, 17 from the crit and 35 sneak attack. My rogue talents turn any sneak attack die less than 3 into a 3.He struck like a lightning bolt, putting every effort into that first glorious swing.

Barreling into the dragon's hide, he relied on the magic of his boots to keep him aloft and aligned. Tumbling about in mid-air, On the first round, I'll full attack. Rolls below. I hit 1 times out of 4. Dealing 58 Non-lethal damage.he swung again and again at the beast, Total NL Damage should be 110 minus any damage reduction, which should be applied twice.hoping to drive it to ground.

As the green dragon hurled its terrible acid at the airship Touch the Heavens, Ira knew it was finished. Even before the ship began to plummet to the ground the Felinus Marshall spun and stabbed a finger towards the steersman. "You! Get us closer! NOW! I don't care how you do it, but get us as close as you can!" He takes off at a jog, down the length of the ship. As he goes he grabs any crew member he can see not actively helping to steer the ship towards the imminent and mortal danger a few hundred feet away and pushes them towards the ballistae on the deck. "Get those things going! C'mon! GO!"

BloodthirstHaruka watched as the air ballasts of the Touch the Heavens buckled and sagged, pitching the great ship earthwards. She did not feel fear or rage or sorrow for what she saw, though. She had entered into a state of unearthly detachment, devoid of 'self'; she returned all she had become in her life to zen.

As the magic that bore her aloft pitched her towards the massive draconian foe, she breathed deep the wisp-thin air. Just as they came within reach of one another, she drew the tip of her blade in a smooth crescent down into the scales of the dragon's neck. As she felt the blade bite flesh, she breathed a word and lightning coursed along the length of 'Tamakakyou'.

"Hakkei."

Atop Vel'kor, Durzo shot though the sky. A blur from cloud to cloud. A jumbled mess of black tentacles and a shining lance is what on lookers would see. Lance stabbing forward acid rippling off of it by the force of the wind. Vel'kor closed in, 51 Damage in total.lashing out at the beast.

Durzo swung his lance at the dragon again, given an opportunity by Haruka's devastating blow. The Lance simply bouncing off the dragon's scales yet again.

VatarinEven as the wreckage that were the remains of Touch the Heavens plummeted, Vatarin contained a wry smile. It had been too long since he'd found something worth killing. The smile faded as the other champions flew out to combat the threat. Too many targets, he'd have to be clever and he was keeping his feet safely pinned to the ground.

Vatarin sniffed as he consciously evaded continuing that line of thought.

As the others surrounded the green beast, the green kobold found his opening. How simple it was when your allies continued an aerial battle as if it were still forced limited to two-dimensional tactics.

Cupping his hands about an imaginary sphere Vatarin called out with magic dripping from his voice, Rising flames break apart!"Lleisgarir ibafarshani jikmada waoli!"

As the incantation completed, Vatarin thrust his hands forward propelling the small bead that formed in mid-air forward towards the combatants. The small kobold's smile returned as the bead flew out with breath-taking speed to center above the dragon. It hovered for the briefest of moments before exploding into a massive fireball, catching the dragon in the downward force of its blast.

Even from his ship Farash could hear the spitting and sizzling of that vicious acid as it burned its way into the flotation devices. He winced as he saw it go plummeting, his fingers gripping his bow tightly and he shook his head. He could not save them, not with his current spells at least, but he didn’t like it, the innocent dying in battle, but when you were dealing with their situation, it happened. Even air travel in general had its dangers.

He stood at the rail of the ship and tilting his head a bit to the right, watching his new companions soar into battle. Seeing the odd grippli appear next to the dragon and smacking it with what seemed like and appallingly small set of sticks, but they did indeed seem to be effective, though not in a way that seemed to cause enough blood to flow, odd that. Next came the odd looking furred one, slicing effectively into the dragon as he shook his head. He had not expected his companions to be able to fly, but in this case he was glad that they had the means. When the darkling attacked he couldn’t help but chuckle and look at Ialdo. "It seems the mount surpasses the rider, sound familiar?" The roc eyed him and then preened its feathers with its wicked looking beak.

He shook his head before he reached back and drew an arrow from his quiver, raising his bow up and laying the arrow upon it. With a swift, graceful motion he drew back the string, the powerful bow creaking at its own tension as he pulled the string back along his beak. "Time to see what my contribution will be," He sighted down the length of the well made arrow and loosed it at the dragon, the arrow flying from the string with a thrum and winging through the air, very swiftly followed Using Manyshotby three others with blinding speed as he watched them fly towards the dragon.

The Airship FormationThe heroes were ready for the scaly beast’s assault, and struck with great fury and swift resolve.

The tiny ball of undead perfection slammed into the dragon’s head with the force of a cannonball, fists and feet flying, battering the wyrm until it was disoriented by the speck’s strikes.

The arcane sword artist's strike also struck true as she charged into the aerial fray, striking but once. The single swing of her katana crackled with electric energy, cleaving into the creature’s flank, sending ribbons of lightning in all directions from the wound. The dragon roared in fury at the powerful blow.

Taking advantage of the enemy’s momentary distraction, the twisted halfling atop the otherworldly beast jabbed his lance in alongside the rend left by the fierce katana. The long shaft struck deep, embedding itself into the side of the emerald reptile, while his unnerving steed’s teeth and tentacles ripped flesh from its belly.

The dragon’s supposed kin, the kobold, launched a incandescent ball of roiling flames at it, flying on a true course, straight at the dragon’s left wing. The flames, however, proved ineffectual as they dissipated against the beast’s arcane resistances.

Finally, the avian bowman took up his weapon and notched an arrow, letting fly four in quick succession at the battered foe. The first two buried themselves into the foe’s shoulder, prompting a bellow of pain from the scaly beast. The creature’s eyes drifted shut, its wings ceased to beat, and the insensate dragon plummeted from the sky, somewhat above and offset from the likewise falling carcass of the Touch the Heavens. Suddenly, a spark caught the evacuating gas from Touch the Heavens’ balloon and detonated, splitting the vessel in twain and hurling it even more rapidly toward the jungle below.

A few moments later, the airship’s remains struck, starting small fires throughout the crash site, followed by the dragon’s unmoving form. The beast struck hard, but remained intact, a speck barely visible in the surrounding greenery from the vantage of the airships.

OOGMI left out Durzo’s AoO, as it actually didn’t make sense from the point of view of the narrative, AND it missed. With both characters having charged, I shouldn’t have given the AoO. In the future, I’ll try to catch things like that more effectively.

Go ahead and take your post-combat actions. Harold will come up and talk with you all afterwards. You need not return to your previous ships, but make sure to mention whatever ship you end up on. Thanks!

KerzKerz could hardly believe they'd managed to defeat the dragon before anyone else was harmed. It was a definite example of why this party had been assembled. They were the best of the best, and they were able to handle threats that would scare the living daylights out of lesser heroes.

The grippli had done his part, but he felt some apprehension about the results. Flying over to his compatriots, the samurai and the beast rider, Kerz knew they had to deal with this situation before it got out of control.

Friends, well done. Your alacrity in the airships' defense was most appreciated, and I am grateful I am surrounded by such competence. However, this threat is not abated. We know not whether the dragon survived its fall. My weapons do not impart true damage, as I often prefer to keep my enemies alive for questioning. I find it much more efficacious to impair and incapacitate my foes. Thus, I'm afraid that even with it's tremendous fall, the dragon might yet live to ravage us again. What say you?

VatarinSeveral draconian curses fluttered through the air as they escaped the kobold's maw.

"Magical resistances," Vatarin spat.

Few enough creatures had such abilities that Vatarin had never worried himself to study their weaknesses. That would change soon enough.

He looked over to the other champions, still flying about the sky, and came to a decision. After all he was the first to say they had to work as a team. It would weaken his station with the others if he acted based on suspicion now. He'd prefer to speak with them first but the fliers showed no sign of consulting him. In that case he would press the issue.

Following a spell: messagebrief incantation Vatarin spoke allowing magic to carry his voice to each champion within range, "I'm going down to check for any survivors among the wreckage and make sure that dragon stays dead. I'm trusting one of you will help me back up. That's how teams work, right?"

Vatarin sighed, being in the air was clouding his mind. Were kobold's supposed to fly they would have still had wings. Falling, on the other hand was perfectly natural. The green kobold's mouth twisted into a sardonic grin as he sprinted to the edge of the ship, passing Farash along the way. He leaped out, waving impishly back at the Tengu as he wrapped himself in magic potentialities.

It would be up to Farash himself if he would follow now.

ResolutionSlowly emotion returned to the mongrel swordswoman's face, though it was a subtle change. Her brow creased, her eyes drooped, and her lips thinned. She she felt ashamed. No matter how complete their defeat of the dragon had been, they had been powerless to stop it from wreaking its havoc on the Touch the Heavens and its crew. They had come a hair's breadth away from failing their mission just then; it could have just as easily been the Defiance's broken form to litter the jungle floor, if the old wyrm had picked it.

With a practiced gesture, Haruka flicked the dragons' blood from her blade into the open air before returning it to its sheath. She pivoted in mid air as she heard Kerzumal speak and then the Kobold's message. It was a noble thought to see if any of the doomed airship's crew had survived the plummet, but from such a tremendous height she thought it unlikely. The dragon, on the other hand, might well have lived; and it would not do to leave grudges to fester.

"It will not do to leave the balloon fleet undefended." Haruka replies through Vatarin's magical link. "Some should stay to guard against further aggressors, while others descend to make sure the beast has truly met its end." So saying, she began to fly back to the Defiance's deck. "I have no means to return to these heights from the forest floor. I would prove a hindrance, so I will stay and defend the ships." Her self-depreciating words were genuine and matter-of-fact, lacking any self pity or complaint.

Learning to Fly Farash looked over at the kobold and smiled, or at least as much of a smile as a beak could do. Dragons were rather notorious for being hard to damage either physically or magically, they posed a challenge either way. He watched the flying group out of the corner of his eyes, but they were too far for him to hear their conversation well especially in the air. He looked around though and shook his head. A dragon as their first battle, it wasn’t a hard battle with the groups surprising flying abilities, but it was just the first battle, what laid ahead of them was bound to be much, much more challenging.

He turned his attention back to Vatarin to see him casting a spell and he raised his feathered brow, wondering what the little kobold was up to. Hearing his voice and he nodded at the words. So the kobold had been thinking like him, but Farash had discounted the possibilities of survivors from such a fall. He looked around at the ending of the kobold’s message and frowned. There were obviously other casters in the party, but he wasn’t sure just how capable they were. He sighed, watching the kobold sprint and then leap off the ship. Shaking his head with a smile as he felt the spell take effect on him and trying to figure out what had been cast on him, he smothered a groan.

Instead of leaping after him, he moved over to the captain. "It would appear we are going to be checking for survivors and making sure the beast is dead. Could you lower the ship down some so that we can make it back on my mount?" He asked, nodding to the roc standing at the rail and looking over the edge. After the captain had responded he went to his cabin and grabbing his adventurer’s sash and tying it on at the shoulder. He made sure everything in it was secure and making sure his wands were tied down in the sash. He slipped a spellbook into the satchel and tied it close to keep everything secure before he came back out on deck. He looked over at the captain, nodded, and then moved to Ialdo. He gently gave him the command to come before he climbed onto the rail himself and leapt over it, off the ship and into the clear air to plummet towards the ground.

And a quick drop Durzo watched as the dragon plummeted, the beast had taken several mighty blows. The fall would almost definitely kill it or at least leave its body in such a shape that the animals of the forest would surely feed on it. Flying toward the ship, he felt the same small surge of magic as when he used magic to talk to Vel'kor. The plan to head down seemed fairly sound "Haruka, I have to agree in leaving some behind to defend. I'm assuming Ira will be doing likewise since he seems to lack the ability to fly. Having not paid any attention to the other ship, it was possible that some had survived. Though unless the ship had some sort of fail safe he couldn't imagine many survivors.

Silver Ring, would you care to join me in a quick drop?" Sticking his chainmail covered hand out to pull the Grippli up onto Vel'kor. Durzo said grinning slightly. "Also, where is the Herald hiding out at. I would have expected him to join in that little tussle. Does he care to join us down below or would he rather stay aboard the ship?"
