Esiak approaches the papyrus, recognizing something about it.

"I was taught to speak Draconic by my mother, and can read some of it. I recognize some of these characters, but don't understand what this document attempts to communicate."

He shakes his head in disappointment.

Luxanna is okay with the understanding she has between her and the goblinoid, but she is keeping a firm eye on him the entire trip. While she knows he definitely isn't responsible for the current situation, it doesn't mean he won't do anything stupid. He is a goblin after all. She moves towards the door just north of the one the goblin opened and stops right in front of the door. She looks back to Sir Rekkart, and politely asks, "Sir Rekkart, mind escorting a lady to the next room?" He does seem like the only individual at this point she can trust, while she does trust Esiak kindness. He does seem quite rash, and that could spell trouble in this place. Wulfric hasn't said much, and she isn't quite sure about him yet. The scholar man seems on edge and she wonders if he has an addiction issue. If they weren't trapped, she love to invite him back to the church to talk about his troubles. He seems like a brilliantly gifted mind, but a troubled one at that.

"Surely, I shall do so." Sir Rekkart says with a grim look still written on his face. "Let us hope there is nothing nasty waiting in here."
He opens the door and enters the darkness inside, a torch in one hand and his longsword in the other.

This lavish room of cold marble is festooned with a large but mangy polar bear-skin rug and an ornate desk of darkwood carved with an odd motif of cherubs grappling with vipers. Behind the desk in a high-backed leather chair rests a skeleton in judge’s regalia, a long white beard still draped down the front of his robes. A rusted iron spiked chain still dangles from around the neck of the skeleton. Near the desk lays the desiccated skeleton of a large dog, a few of its ribs broken and its skull cracked.

With the door opening, the long dead animal suddenly begins to stir and erects itself - skittering towards the paladin before he can realize what is happening. It bites viciously into his leg, shaking its head to the side with the fangs still in the flesh and toppling the man over. "By the gods!" he shouts before landing square on his back, the torch falling beside him on the ground.

Luxanna sees the creature looming over the the prone paladin and Luxanna sprints into action, she takes a defensive fighting stance holding her scimitar to block any would-be attack from the dog. She shouts to Sir Rekkart, I'll distract him use the chance to get back on your feet. She moves around behind the dog provoking to attack her.

combatThe dog senses Luxanna somehow, and tries to bite her, but its attempt is pityable at best.

Lixir holds it in such a fashion that Esiak can looking it over freely but seemed unable to make much more of it than Lixir could, rolling it back up as they moved through the room he tucked it away for the moment. "I suspect it a scroll that is magical in nature though I can't rightly say whether its arcane or divine, perhaps with a bit more study it might be of use."

Returned from the dead birds, and now dogs... Lixir was surprised when the skeletal beast rose from its long dead masters side but he once again the his pair of matched maces found their way into his hand as he couldn't see how his blade would be of much use against something with no flesh. When it pulled the one called Sir Rekkart off his feet and to the ground Lixir followed in Luxanna steps and gave the beast a

Lixir swiftly moves towards the battle, hitting the dog on its sketetal snout, breaking off a chip of bone.

Hearing the shout from the next room, Esiak rushes there as quickly as he can, following behind Lixir.

"This cursed beast is nothing from any of the gods I've met in prayer!"

As the area is becoming crowded, he instinctively uncords his glaive and begins rapidly puncturing the undead creature, while avoiding the innocent in his thrusts past and around them.

René René hears the clamor of fighting will inspecting this and that objeect strewn about the room. Seeing the flurry of people all fighting in the doorway to the next room, he knows its best he stay out of the way and using his crossbow is certainly out of the questions. He steps slightly closer the rampaging skeleton and begins to mutter the words of arcane power.

Wulfric moves to the door. Seeing the chaos within the barbarian leans in past the troglodyte and pulls the paladin to him.

ooc I should be able to pull him into my square? It compromises our Dex but then his isn't on his back in a threatened square?

As the hollow clatter of bones and Sir Rekkart's pain-filled scream draw you all to the battle, Esiak swiftly slithers past the door and takes an opening to stab the creature, but his weapon slides in between its ribs - scratching a few bones, but doing only insignificat damage. René's magic then rushes past you, a shimmer of ice hitting the dog between its eyesockets, but it doesn't even flinch. Wulfirc uses all the confusion to drag Sir Rekkart out of the room, and while the man is very surprised of this sudden pull, he does not fight it.

He then stands up, using Wulfric's grasp as a help and is about to storm back inside to destroy the monstrosity, when the other door to the room opens, towards the ruined courtroom.
Malgrim enters with his chain ready to smack whatever is fighting with you in here, and the undead hound swings around. You could swear its jaws moves as if barking, then it rushes towards the hobgoblin without a second thought with fangs bared against him. Sir Rekkart uses the opening to bring down his sword at it with both hands, smacking right through its ribcage - the creature staggers on, but bones begin falling from it.

OOC

Lixir and Esiak get an attack of opportunity at the dog skeleton as it suddenly tries to storm at Malgrim.

"What devil makes you immune to my glaive thrusts? You undead creature!"

Before finishing his words, Esiak has recorded his pole-weapon with his non-dominant hand and drawn his longsword. Instantly moving next to the cursed dog, he takes full opportunity to extend his attack and brings the blade down onto its bones with all his strength.

OOCActually, an Attack of Opportunity can only be done with the weapon you have in hand at the time. And you only get an attack, no free movement. Check here.
But as your attack didn't hit, that doesn't really make a difference
I have moved Esiak back to where he was standing.

Esiak looks at the hound, then to the heavens -- unseen in this cursed place but somewhere that he imagines the god of his master to be -- and hiusses loudly while darting his serpent tongue.

"I have failed almost comically to bring this undead canine to bay with almost every weapon at my disposal that you would all recognize. But I have two other weapons you have yet to see or even suspect!"

He snaps his teeth and flicks his long thick tail.

Would I dare take into my mouth whatever substance may have cursed this creature? And could I get in close enough to break apart its threatening bones with my tail without harming the others crowded among?
