Regarding Shadow: I feel for Sinister and their situation, and hope that everything turns out in the end. However, they're clearly busy and unable to participate in the game. So, that means to me that Sinister is out of the game and Shadow at Dawn is now a permanent NPC. |

I'm in Outplay again this week, and burned myself out today on the first post.
Planning on getting something up tomorrow over my lunch(uk time); and it's combat week this week so shouldn't be too swamped after this first post. |

Just another reason why I don't participate in Outplay. It happens every year that the site goes half-dead because loads of people are spending their time and effort on a roleplaying competition. When did roleplaying become a competition anyway? I thought it was a narrative, collaborative experience. It's like at a dinner party a few years ago. We were playing cards and having a good time, then somebody said, "let's play for money". The mood totally changed and people were trash talking and back stabbing and just being jerks because something was on the line. The admins asked me to run a Shadowrun game for Outplay a few years ago and I turned it down. It just seems like a terrible idea to me. Meanwhile, there's no good game announcements and the games that people have already committed to have all slowed down. So... yeah... I'm against Outplay.

I hadn't thought about it. I'm new to the site, and thought about joining, but it seemed like it it had a steep learning curve. I see now that the event has upsides and downsides!

girlplay: Yeah, that's all a fair criticism. There's definitely something fundamentally silly about the whole thing. I think the mood is generally pretty friendly -- don't see too much jerkiness, and I wouldn't be in it if I did -- but it's definitely...I wouldn't say trash-talky, but there's a heightened cattiness between the characters, that I actually enjoy.
It's got a soft space in my heart, though, as Outplay 2017 was one of the very first games I was in, and there were some great character interactions and writing and it showed me some of what PbP could be. And the intensity -- I wouldn't/couldn't manage a game like this all the time, but for a short period having everyone make quality posts every day to move the story along quickly is amazing. Hmmm...maybe you could run a non-competitive one-shot along a similar set-up... I dunno, I feel like competitiveness like this isn't really good , but it's sort of a lizard-brain thing for a lot of people, and Outplay maybe channels that to produce something better -- like, I'm not sure you'd get the buy in for an intense one-shot without the competitive aspect...? Mythrandil: As I said, Outplay was basically my first game here, so jumping in is definitely do-able. Good writing, putting time in, and following directions is most of it. It's intense though, which makes it great fun, but can also be a negative at times.... |

Is everyone okay with Sam's suggestion to head on to Shadow's ranch?

Yes, sounds good to me. I just didn't want to be too aggressive with Thom's posting.

May I remind you'all that the posting rate for this game should be 3 times per week. So.... Be aggressive. Be-ee aggressive!

Aggressive it is then.
But I wanted to get a post in today -- headed on vacation tomorrow, and though it shouldn't affect my posting much at all, there may be a slight hiccups here and there, especially at start and end -- transatlantic flights with children ::shudders:: |

Sorry I've gotten lethargic in these dog days of summer. I should have no problem hitting three per week, and I expect it will be easier to stay engaged at that pace!

To Dolan's mind, the size of the ranch is somewhere in the middle. It's certainly much bigger than Shadow's operation but smaller then some ranches that the group passed on the way here. He can count about 8 people within sight (including the two standing in front of them) so there's plenty of work to be done. Judging by the clothing and tools at their disposal, they aren't exactly "barely making it" - so they must have enough to sell or trade for items they need.
