Toba Orfani
In Character
In Character
(please ignore the girl in the picture, but otherwise a fairly good representation of Toba)
Name:
Toba Orfani
Age:
18
Race:
Human
Class:
Monk (Manuever Master Archetype)
Goals/Motivation for adventure:
Toba's motivations are simple, he no longer wants to be the outsider and the one left on his own. Through adventuring he hopes to earn a name for himself and gain the respect of the village. At the same time leaving the village and adventuring will allow Toba to spend more time with his friends (and possibly make more) while keeping those he cares about safe.
Description:
Toba stands at around six foot tall and at first glance is fairly average to look at, he is of average build neither particularly skinny or particularly fat, well that is what the eye first sees when some one looks at Toba. He is infact a natural weapon his body perfectly built for combat purposes. Toba seems to have little or no body fat on him what so ever and every single muscle is perfectly toned, though not to such an extent that he is obviously muscly or that his muscle have become oversized and would hinder his movements. The condition of Toba's body however usually remains a mystery as most often it is completely hidden by the loose fitting garments that he wears. At most times this outfit consists of a soft soled pair of flexible shoes, a pair of brown trousers that are tight at the ankle though loose up the rest of the leg, a simple rope is tied round the waist to act as a belt and the outfit is finished off with a loose hooded light brown shirt. Again like his body Toba's face at first glance is rather average, though on closer inspection Toba could be considered to be rather good looking. Toba's eyes are bright and seem full of life being a light blue in colour and his hair blonde and kept short and unstyled. Facial hair wise Toba never seems to have any whether it is due to a strict regime of shaving or perhaps he just doesnt grow any yet. Equipment wise Toba does not seem to carry any armour or wear any weapons.
Personality:
Toba is a simple and straightforward fellow taking most things at face value. He is however a curious soul having spent most of his life restricted to the four walls of the village church. His seclusion has resulted in the young man being rather socialy awkward and when he talks to other he can often come across rather blunt or rude despite the huge amount of effort he puts in to trying to make friends. In fact one of Toba's main motivations is to make people like him and to make friends and he often does not understand when this does not happen and can become quite frustrated. Despite having a reputation as a roughian and a thug Toba is a somewhat and gentle and caring individual. While Toba rather enjoys a good fight he does not do it inorder to cause pain and suffering in others, in fact he hates to see others suffer and would rather suffer in their place.
Background:
Eighteen years ago a stranger came to All'ken, he had a reputation as an adventurer and many in the village considered him wild and mysterious. The man was charming and had a way with people but within a week of coming to the small settlement much to the village church's shame one of the church priestess' of Delitrecus fell pregnant. As soon as the adventurer found out the priestess was preganant he fled the village never to be seen again leaving the poor young and now pregnant priestess to look after herself. A little under nine months later the woman entered labour however it soon became clear that something was terribly wrong as the priestess was in an incredible amount of pain. Several hours later and the priestess was still in labour and growing steadily weaker. As the next day arrived so did Toba, unfortunately his mother had but moments left to live. With his father who knows where in the world and his mother dying in child birth Toba was welcomed into the world as all but an orphan. Fortunately for Toba the head priest at the church father Jacob took pity on the boy and took him on as ward of the church.
The first few years of Toba's life was completely uneventful, apart from lacking parents his life was pretty normal. Instead of a mum and dad he had priests who looked after and raised him. This however all changed when Toba was five years old, the adventurer who sired Toba returned. The adventurer had not come back to look for his son or the priestess he left behind, infact when the priests approached him he point blank refused to see the boy. The clergy however and a number of the villagers recognised the adventurer as the boys father. This time round the adventurer stayed for only a few days and when he left he left in a hurry. In fact in his hurry to leave the adventurer attacked a number of the villagers badly wounding them, it was later discovered that the man had stolen a number of valuable items and gold from the church, the village hall and a number of the larger properties. Unfortunately Toba was at an age where he liked to explore and began to venture about the village on his own. Toba soon encountered hateful looks from a number of villagers who had either been hurt, lost possesions or had family who such had occured due to the boys biological father and in their ignorance blamed the boy for the actions of his father. Quickly the boy became a social outcast only welcomed within the walls of the church, the boys curiousity however was untamable and he would still sneak out of the church to explore. As was inevitable Toba soon found himself in a bad way. One day exploring he ran into a pair of boys more than twice his age. Unfortunately these boys were the son of a farmer who had been badly wounded the day the adventurer fled and deciding to take their anger out on Toba they set upon the young boy badly beating him. When Toba did not return to the church that night father Jacob went looking for him and eventually found the boy passed out at the outskirts of the village. Lifting the small boy up father Jacob carried him home and nursed him back to health. When the boy fully recovered father Jacob decided it was time to teach the boy how to defend himself. Fortunately the church had a number of old texts on martial arts studied by church monks and the elderly priest immediately started the boy's lessons. Having no friends to distract him Toba threw himself into his studies.
As Toba grew older he grew desperate for friends his own age and began to sneak out of the church once again. Fortunately as the years passed the villagers began to forget about the actions of Toba's father and the boy was pretty much left alone. Toba however was more used to ederly priests than children his own age and he did not make friends easily. Once again Toba eventually found himself in a fight this time with a group of boys his own age. Toba could not understand what the boys had against him or why they would not be his friends however when the boys attacked him Toba was incredibly surprised to find the boys attacks incredibly wild and sloppy. The martial arts training Toba had recieved had already took root and with ease the young Toba was able to avoid or block all of the boys' attacks. Eventually Toba beat back all his attackers, unfortunately this was spotted by some of the villagers and thinking him a bully the villagers chased the boy all the way to the church. Toba was from then on seen as a roughian and Thug and was once again ostracised from the village.
The contempt of the village however did not stop Toba's excursions from the safety of the church, now in his early teens the boy desperately sought friends once again. Late at night Toba would sneak out and creep around the village under the cover of darkness spying on all the houses as he worked out which ones had children his own age in. It did not take long before Toba had found every child his age. Instead of trying to make friends however Toba instead continued to spy on them watching their daily lives imagining that they were his friends. One of Toba's favourite people to watch was a young girl around his own age that went by the name of Azura. Though the girl dressed simply there was something about the girls looks that completely enchanted the boy and he would often find himself just staring at the girl with a happy smile on his face.
One day when Toba was out observing his 'friends' he saw Azura and her father, the man was obviously angry for some reason as he was bellowing at the small girl at the top of his voice while the girl merely cowered not saying a word. The next thing Toba saw made the boys blood boil, the man began to ruthlessly beat his daughter and it took all of Toba's self restraint not to kick the door down and interfere. The beating was brief but the girl was left in treats. Toba could not let such cruelty go unpunished so the next night he followed the man home from the local Tavern. As was common the man was drunk and he did not even notice Toba slip out of the shadows. With a quick punch to the kidneys Toba dropped the man to the floor. Not one to kick a man when he was down Toba made an exception in this case and kicked him twice hard in the side. Dropping a piece of parchment on the man Toba then vanished into the shadows. Written on the parchment was a simple threat.
'Touch your daughter again and I will not be so gentle. I am watching!'
A few weeks later Toba quite literally ran into Azura and knocked the girl off her feet. Despite his efforts at apologising the boy managed to somehow insult the girl three times in a matter of a minute. Cursing his stupidity Toba apologised once again before fleeing the scene. However over the next few weeks and months Toba ran into Azura a number of more times and slowly Toba gained his first true friend that was his own age.
Just over a year later and luck would be on Toba's side once again as he would once again run into a new friend. Skirting the edge of the village to avoid a number of adults who weren't too fond of him Toba heard a strange thudding noise and went to investigate. Before he found the source of the noise however Toba came upon a lone horse grazing in a field. Acting on impulse Toba reached out and touched the horses head, this action however seemed to spook the horse and the powerful beast reared up and began to thrash about wildly. Not noticing that the noise he had come to investigate had now stopped Toba turned and ran. Unfortunately the boy had not looked where he was going and he ran face first into a boy he's own age who had snuck up on him. Nursing a sore head Toba scrambled to his feet to find another boy doing likewise. After the other boy managed to somehow calm the horse down he introduced himself as Carson. Toba of course already knew this but he wasn't about to reveal that he had spied on the boy in his parents home... well he wasn't going to reveal it on purpose at least. Carson soon began to tell Toba of his plans for the future and Toba quickly decided that Carson was perhaps the friendliest boy his age that he had ever met. Toba however was soon confused when the boy suggested they prepare for their great adventure by sparring with wooden sticks. Toba didn't really understand why they would want to do this but shrugged his shoulders and agreed none the less. Toba soon found himself disarmed of his stick after a single strike much to Carson's delight. This continued for some time with Toba being repeatedly disarmed until Toba gave up and instead of trying to parry Carson's swipe he ducked under the piece of wood and using his shoulder Toba suddenly flipped the younger boy over his back and onto the ground. Toba at first thought the other boy would be mad at him for doing this but strangely Carson was thrilled at this turn of events. Infact Carson made Toba agree to make this a regular thing and soon the pair would meet up on a regular basis to spar. Carson of course would practice with his weapons while Toba would face him completely unarmed. In this way the two boys quickly built up a firm friendship.
Toba's late teens were a happy time for the boy as he would spend a fair amount of his time to see either Azura or Carson and then after Toba introduced the two he would often spend time with the two if them together.
When Toba was eighteen Carson came to him telling the young man that the time had finally come to leave the village and seek adventure. With some convincing Toba was eventually persuaded to go aswell and soon he was explaining to the priests of his plans to leave. Father Jacob wished the boy well and equipped him with the few pieces of equipment that the church had in their possession before waving him goodbye.

Alatere
Age:
27
Tabletop and RP experience:
I have been roleplaying for about twelve years with a good few years on pbp
How many times per day can you post?:
varies but at an absolute minimum of once a day.
Where are you from - what timezone are you in?:
I am from England so it's GMT+0 for me
How fluently do you speak english?:
Well since I'm English I hope I speak the language pretty well
What priority will this campaign be to you, if accepted?:
Well from the concept of the game and the quality of everyone's applications I have rather high hopes for this game so if accepted I will be giving this game a rather high priority.
What can you offer to the gaming group?:
Primarily I can offer my enthusiasm but hopefully entertainment value aswell. I tend to focus more on role playing than making uber powerful characters and I often make characters that entertain. Toba will hopefully be one such example but we'll never know unless I get the chance to role play him.
How many campaigns are you currently DMing/playing in?
Currently playing in three games though one of them is very slow moving so doesn't require much input.
