The World

The Nation of Trimnach

Trimnach, at its current state, consumes the entire continent of the same name. Founded 300 years ago by the human king Ralphos I, what was once a small congregation of feuding city-states now reigns as the largest single nation in the world. This is primarily due to the so-called Great Expansion set forth by King Ellard III, in which the frozen Northern Wastes, the dangerous southern forest nation of Notugo, and most recently the multi-island nation of Arikara found just of Trimnach's eastern shoreline. A land of varying peoples and geographies, Trimnach holds much diversity and potential for glory.

To the east, across the sea, sits the continent of Salo, and on it the Heavily based on early Mesoamerica30 Kingdoms of the Phoenix, a series of citystates steeped in jungle and held together only by a complicated system of treaties. To the west sit the mysterious continent of Karas, home to Heavily based on Feudal Asiaseveral kingdoms shrouded in secrecy.

Notable Places in Trimnach

Capitol City: The admitivly uncreatively named capital of the nation, this large city is home not only to the High Palace of Eternal Peace and Protection, where King Ellard III lives, but also the Grand Trimnach Market, a massive city district dedicated to the sale of just about any good that can be found, and the Nine Towers of Knowledge, the finest arcane college in the land.

The Notugo Plains: What was once a grand rainforest, now mostly cut down and turned into miles of farmland. However, some strange creatures from the jungle still live in this area, preying on cattle or even sometimes unsuspecting farmers.

The Dragonskull Mountains: A line of massive mountains bordering the Northern Wastelands which hides in it the kingdom of the dwarves. Vassels to the king of Trimnach by a truce set up by King Ellard I, it is said that Ellard III's actions have made the current dwarf king, Lord Hask Ironboots, very nervous.

The Silvermist Forests: A mysterious forest in the eastern portion of Trimnach, and homeland of the nomadic elf tribes. It is named for the strange silvery mists that cloak the woods, making navigation hard for even a seasoned woodsman.

The Kajara Flats: A strange desert formed by a duel between powerful mages centuries ago. This place is also home to strange old ruins from a long-forgotten civilization, protected by ancient and powerful traps.

Cosmology and Religion

Due to Ellard I's famous Declaration of Versai, which explicitly forbid the persecution of religions throughout Trimnach, the variety of religions and gods found in the nation are matched only by the variety of the peoples. From the Three Sisters worshiped in most cities to the Nature and Fertility godGreenman prayed to by farmers, from the ancestor worship of the dwarves to the esoteric inner meditations of the catfolk to even the strange custom of seeing the future in a duck's entrails that the goblins have, all is allowed and encouraged in Trimnach. In fact, there are so many gods that some scholars claim that there are in fact no gods, only otherworldly beings who posses slightly more power then their brethren. Even devils and demons have worshipers in some places, though such practice is highly discouraged by more civilized folk.

Because of this wide-varied collection of beliefs, it is hard to pin down exactly where or how certain races come into being and interact. A village of daemon-worshipers, for instance, would be far more likely to hold and produce Tieflings than a normal city, while likewise a region that worshiped water elementals may have an increased percentage of Undines.

The Three Realms

One constant that is found among almost all priest, seers, and scholars is the division of the universe into three levels, or realms.

The First Realm contains the world, both in a The Material Planephysical and The Ethereal Planespiritual sense. In the view of most, the two are simple two sides of the same coin, and you cannot have one without the other. Some sages suggest that a The Shadow Planethird realm of darkness and shade exist between the two, while others say that it encapsulates the duo.

The Second Realm is the domain of the angels, demons, and all other matter of supernatural creature. This realm is divided into eight different planes, the Eight Celestial Spheres, each one guided by a particular philosophical alignment. It is said that when a mortal dies, his spirit finds rest in the sphere that matches his mindset, but there are countless religious texts that fight against this. These spheres are in no way connected, each sitting in its own domain like pearls floating in the sea.

The Third Realm contains the Four Elemental Spheres, from which the powers of the elements flow. Unlike the Eight Celestial Spheres, these four locations are bound together by four smaller planes, called the Paraelemental Pathways.
