Sorry everyone, computer is still acting up hence my having disappeared for the last few days, but even with all that I have to admit I've been struggling with the game. Not because of the story (we've not even scratched the surface of that) but it's becoming increasingly clear that I have ballsed up the mechanics of this game with my modifications to Pathfinder/the Wheel of Time rules to try and make a quick and easy way to play the game.
Now, I'd also like to make it clear that I have no desire to abandon this game, however I simply can't see continuing as is working out in the long run, so I wanted to talk to you guys about what it is you'd prefer to do. Firstly, since after started this game my post in House Rules asking about playing WoT in Pathfinder has seen some more activity since I actually started the game, including a link to someone else's Pathfinder conversion which I've had a look through and seems interesting. Secondly, there's another Pathfinderisation that (I think) Battlechaser pointed me towards, although I wasn't so keen on that and, as is, it would present problems for Jhess (because Wilders don't have access to either the Aes Sedai or Wise One 'archetypes') and Ruath (because it forbids Ogier gaining armour proficiencies at 1st level). Finally, and more than a little out of left field, I stumbled across the Star Wars Saga rules recently and after reading through them they seem, at their core, to actually look like they could work for the "low magic item" setting of a WoT-verse, allowing unarmoured characters to still be survivable without making armoured characters unhittable as well and their mechanics for the Force seem quite interesting as far as using something like it as a basis for Weaves (basically, instead of 'levels' you have scaling power based on a skill check DC you achieve. Anyway, I just wanted to throw this out there for you guys and get your thoughts on the matter - whether you have thoughts on anything I've said or even if you have another suggestion altogether. ~MTWC

Word Funnily enough, I recommended the guy who recommended that to you, to this site, because of his conversion, IIRC. He's a member of Tar Valon, the WoT fansite with the libary we've been using as a resource. If you want to just have us revamp our PC's, I'm fine with that. Smoother mechanics would certainly lead to a higher posting rate- I still am interested in the game, if you are interested in continuing.

Yes, the idea would be to re-vamp the PCs without having to change them if possible. If this means any of you would rather change the character if it means it makes your concept unworkable then I'm open to that too, but obviously it'd be easier for the campaign if we can just skip to the end of the current encounter and 'restart' from after that using whatever new system we end up with.

I could adapt to a new weaving system but having to go over my entire build would really suck.

We can help? It would help with some of the things you've been trying to do but can't, I think.

I am fine with a revamp, though I haven't found much in the way of problems with my build so not worried about that.

So what are the preferences then? The linked to system (perhaps with changes)? Or trying to make something new (perhaps based off of that Star Wars system I mentioned earlier)?
As things stand whatever the decision is I'd have to make changes to one degree or another as even the linked to system would need changes made to it to avoid people having to completely re-vamp their characters and because of a few oddities I've noticed (all Wise Ones are Dreamers if you go by this system, which is categorically stated to not be the case in the books). I have to admit though that I like the idea of using Star Wars Saga rules, but the problem with that is it'd be an actual change of system and likely take longer, so perhaps something for me to look at if I want to play more games in the WoT-verse and craft my own setting. ~MTWC

I don't mind learning a new system. That kind of stuff is pretty easy.
To be honest I sort of like it the way it is right now but if the new system is nice I'd look it up. |

Just to clear the air here, I think I'm going to have to put this game on hiatus. Looking at the various systems available, I fear it'd just be one headache after another to modify any system to try and suite Pathfinder. Really, what I needed to do (and plan to do) is play about with it and run some lower level games to actually test the system itself before going for a higher level game like this one.
I'm really sorry about this, but I do fully intend to come back to this game and when I get around to putting up a WoT game to test my new system you guys will have first choice of playing if you fancy testing the system out with a different character (as it'd be a different and lower level campaign). Needless to say the same is true if you want to continue with this game once I'm happy with the system. Sorry again, ~MTWC

Sure, I can wait. I'm otherwise fine with keeping things as they are.
