I am a complete neophyte when it comes to the FATE System, is it difficult to pick up? Would a complete system neophyte be a good fit? Then there's Battletech, I remember playing this long enough ago that Heat Sinks sound familiar, so I would need to play catch up there too. ![]()

So I have started considering what chassis I might want to play. In canon is it normal for a lance to have several highly specialized mechs or is it preferred to have multiple more versatile mechs? Or is it all situation dependent?

its good to have an all-rounder in the party. i cant speak to canon, but i believe it situation-dependent

The old Star League liked to deploy entire companies (3 lances of 4 'Mechs) composed of the same model, but that's not a luxury the Successor States have, especially not in the early 31st century. You see both balanced and specialist formations, depending on who they are and what purpose they're supposed to serve. Small mercenary outfits tend to be big adherents of the "whatever we have on hand" doctrine.

Neat! I guess the follow up question would be what kind of lance do we want to have? I'm in favor of agility and speed so I'd like to run a light/medium mech. But I could be convinced otherwise.

Why don't we run one of these?
![]() Seriously though, "battle lance" covers all but the weirdest possible combinations. |
