Interesting information, the bit about notifications and thread subscriptions should be sent to all new players when they create an account.

Thanks for the tip. I'm one of those new players that tend to fizzle out. I'll edit my notifications.

I'm guilty of chronic 'refreshing' to see if any updates have posted. The notifications option would be helpful for me if I was patient enough to wait for the notifications to fire off. When I've used notifications on other sites it always seems like my email inbox ends up overflowing.
Thanks for the tip. I will probably use my notifications on this site. At least until I figure out how often I'm going to hit the refresh button |

Thanks. I will hopefully be starting my first game soon so this helps me keep a straight mindset.

If you want a game, and to learn the ropes, come let us know and apply for a Solo Game.

Great advice, particularly for me to find on my first day here.
Perhaps someone who reads this can give me some more: I've signed up for the training solo game, though it looks like there might be a bit of a queue, so I'm not holding my breath to get invited in anytime soon. In the meantime, I've been reading over the site and the Players Handbook, and reading through some of the older games. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can better learn the mechanics (of DnD 5e in particular) or get involved while I'm waiting for my name to come up? Or perhaps there is an archived game that existed for new players that I could read through which teachers the mechanics as they come up through the story/thread? If this is the wrong place to ask, I'll move it into its own thread - but I thought there might be some others who are receiving the advice from the opening post and might have some of the same questions. |

You might want to check out The City of Endless Arenas (the original ad is here; they're always recruiting people, I believe). Bhelogan is a really friendly bloke and the people there should be able to help you out with mechanics.

@Menox: We have numerous DMs within the NPSG ranks. Your application will be tended to in a timely manner. As for getting a handle on the mechanics of the system, I would suggest clicking Here, which is the Character Creation Example portion of the New Gamers area. The thread contain some of the terminology that's common within the supported RPG systems.
Also in that area is The Tangled Vine Tavern, where you can also ask the DMs general questions about games, site offerings, play by post, etc. |
