One of my favorites is to just pull a 'porky pig' and purposefully come up short on a fancier word after a few attempts. That, alongside peppering in a few choice malapropisms or the like. Playing a low-Int high-Wis character is pretty much a license to be the 'good ol' boy' of faerun. Always a blast to play something like that off an academic in the party, especially if you have a skill-expertise to lean into and play off what you don't know as less essential than what you do.
