He looked to the thri-kreen at his side as they rode, content to the silence of the other. He is brooding, his companion is of like brood. They are not dissimilar, and he must admit, they are very much alike if the fight is any indication. They were effective and brutal together, they were, and Thakar is glad to have an able companion at his side. And so he rides on, not giving it much more thought than that.

The man in the cage grunts, and for the first time during the trip, his far-reaching eyes shift and focus on something other than the horizon: Felix. "I'm not with you, and I've seen no evidence that you are with me." After continuing the stare for several moments, he turns and re-fixes his eyes on some distant point.
Salin turns the the halfing at his side. "Lets start with what you owe me. Six days of travel would normally cost you a few ceramics, but then we don't have a lot of negotiating to do. After all, you've already eaten my food, and drank my water. And I'm pretty sure you don't want me to leave you here, eh? So lets call it forty ceramics and I won't have Emma run you off. He waves at the half giant to come remove Jerm from the wagon. "A kank to ride will cost you another dozen." Hal and Buss close up formation behind the wagon and ride a few paces back. The walls of the canyon gradually fall as the ground rises. The moderate shade provided by the stone overhangs fades and you are left exposed to the full intensity of the Athasan sun.

The brilliance of the sun shone against Krik-Ket's pale chitin, nearly blotting out his gaunt form as well as it blinded his bulbous eyes. Still, the thri-kreen's perception was not limited to his sight alone, and so the mantis forward strode forward undaunted by the overwhelming luminosity of the nearby star. His antennae felt about in the air in order to compensate for this handicap.
Behind him, Salin was lecturing the little fellow about the debt he had incurred. Krik agreed that the little guy had not earned his keep thus far, but he fought alongside them when things were grim. For the thri-kreen, that nearly made him family. Even worse, Salin had the wrong idea regarding how to repay his debt. Rather than putting the halfling to work earning his keep, Krik's boss rented him a steed. It was enough to make the ranger wonder if he would ever understand society and especially their business practices. At any rate, that was hardly his concern. Krik-Ket kept out of matters regarding business whenever he could. The ranger kept his mind on the trail before him.

Salin's speech of debt does not sit well with Thakar Thuul, knowing full well how those who hold the cards so often abuse those whose cards are being held. It was the same debt that drove Thakar Thuul away from his old life. The same place where he draws upon anger, raging against any and all who stand against him and his need for freedom. But then, he is also getting paid, and paid well. Thakar can argue with ceramics where they are useful, and Salin has been fair to him there. Not that he has any frame of reference, but it is enough that he knows he does not want for anything he cannot have, other than perhaps a steel weapon. One day, he might just get one. Real steel, from before the great disaster that brought this world to its knees.
He does not stop, he does not communicate, and he does not stop in his duties. Onward is civilization, a new city. Perhaps life there is different from the ones before. He's always wondered what a common life might be like, or a life in another city, away from the ghosts of yesterday. But Thakar Thuul cannot indulge, not yet. He has things he must do. And so, he rides on in resolute silence.
