The gonging makes Thomas want to punch the marble statue in the face, but he's not sure that would help any. With an expression more stern than normal he retreats from the room with the rest, rubbing his chin.
"That was unexpected. May I look at some of those little statues?" |

Everyone else starts moving out of the room, except Angarato who moves into the room to get the rest of the figurines. As he is grabbing the first one the gonging sound stops and there is a green flash of light as a bolt of energy from each statue lances out and strikes Angarato. He probably would have been fine if he had simply stayed out of the room after the alarm went off. At the same time you start to hear movement from the direction of the stairs. Something was coming, and by the sound of it something quite heavy.
The two statues on the other hand have started moving. They have stood up on six small metal legs that had been tucked underneath them till they had been disturbed.

Thinking of Basementicus' natural and annoying resistance to magic, Reynard says, quietly now that the noise has died down, "Base, get him out of there. We need to move. The exit is right behind us; retreat is an option. Willowick, please alert the dwarves, or you could go see what's coming up those stairs."

Thomas wants to know more about what's coming up the stairs, and he's insulted by the statues acting in such an undignified way. If you're going to be made of stone, it's pretty bad manners to move on metal legs. He's also closer than Base to Angarato, so he's waiting to see if the man falls down dead before exiting the room.

Basementicus considers carrying Angarato, but he wants to see if it's really necessary first.

Angarato is unmoving, definitely paralyzed for a short while, but still alive. Luckily he had enough balance when he got paralyzed that he doesn't fall over. The pair of statues then move so they can see out the door and begin firing their paralysis beams at the group, specifically at Thomas, who is still closest to the door. Both beams hit him, but dissipate harmlessly against his stony exterior. Quite lucky that his race seems to be immune to paralysis.

Basementicus realizes that something dangerous is coming up the stairs and leaving Angarato unattended probably won't end well. He takes a second to analyze the situation and comes to the conclusion that the statues are attacking with their eyes.
The drow quickly rips off the cloak he had on and moves to one of the statues, holding his cloak in front of him. Dice Statue pinata:
He can't quite get the cloak around its face! Last edited by Explosionguy; Feb 26th, 2014 at 11:07 PM. |

Angarato standing there can perceive what is happening around him, but can not move a muscle. He feels an odd mix of emotions, fear probably the strongest as he notes the activity moving out into the hall. However, he can't help but also laugh a little inside as he recalls a comment he made to Thomas the previous evening about "looming statuesque." There is a certain irony in the moment as he looms here himself unable to assist his team. He thinks to himself what a strange myriad of sensations, "this is really the ultimate fly on the wall experience."
Although breathing is more difficult being forced to take short, shallow breaths, he is able to hum a little to try to let his team know he is still alive. "mmmhmm mmmhmm mmmhmm, mmm mmm mmm, mmmhmm mmmhmm mmmhmm " |

Thomas crosses to the frozen man, picking him up around the middle like the plank of wood he's pretending to be, and heads for the door.

Thomas grabs Angarato and carries him out of the room. As he walks out of the room down the hallway everyone sees a twelve foot tall statue of exquisite craftsmanship, a pair of finely carved wings folded over its back and it is carrying a large greatsword. It had just come up the stairs and looks quite dangerous. The group runs through the door on the other side of the hallway from the room they were just in. They hastily exit the library through the room with the balcony. Luckily the door is only 7 feet high and thus will make it difficult for the statue to follow. As you are running out dwarves are shouting about what had just been let loose. After watching for a bit it is easy to tell that the statue has given up following you about the time that everyone left the library. The gonging sound has stopped as well and you can hear loud stomping as the statue heads back down the stairs where it came from. As it is heading down Angarato thaws and is able to move again just fine. Kryla sneaks back into the library and checks around quietly then slowly shuts the door with the marble heads then comes back out. "All clear. Lets try to minimize the noise next time shall we? I think we might need the Digmaster to fix those things."

Basementicus wipes some sweat off of his brow and takes some deep breaths. He looks toward Thomas.
"Thanks for grabbing Angarato, Thomas! I thought I might be able to handicap one of them, but I guess it didn't work out." He looks back at the entrance to the library. "It's good that we didn't get stuck down there with that thing. Is everyone alright?" |

"Looks like no one was permanently wounded.". Says Reynard, considering Angarato's pride, "Seems that was a rather important room to have so much security, though I didn't notice anything of particular value. Do we want to check the last office or call it a day? If we have Willowick stand watch at the stairs and we're careful, I bet we could manage it."

Willowick nods and raises up, finding a decent spot to hide perched atop an extinguished torch-mount. There he hides silently, watching, ready to cast an illusion or send off a ghost sound should something come near.

"You sure we should go back in there? I didn't think we were going to have to deal with zappy statues and that thing that chased us out. At this point I don't think it's worth the trouble."
Basementicus takes a moment to regain his composure. "I suppose if we had a means of fighting them I would be more considerate of continuing to explore. If we can't do that, then I feel that we can't do anything more and we should just go." Last edited by Explosionguy; Mar 1st, 2014 at 04:29 PM. |
