Application
right-aligned image
Name: Fortune Featherheart

Race: Human (Hey, there's one in every group, why not me?)

Class: Warlock - Pact of the Tome, Raven Queen Patron Level 6 / Sorcerer - Sorcerous Origin: Shadow Magic Level 14

Background: Bounty Hunter

Description with picture: Fortune is five foot, five inches tall with an athletic build, Auburn hair and weighs around 135 lbs. She's a beauty, but when she smiles, she's CHA = 20drop dead gorgeous and you feel like you just want to be around her. On the flip side, if she's looking at you with a stern gaze, this might not be a good day for you. She wears adventurer's clothing to protect her from the elements and for practicality.

Personality Information: Fortune is all about what's useful, and that includes people. She doesn't blame people for their problems or mistakes, but does expect people to own up and pay for them. She's comfortable in her own skin and long ago stopped trying to cover for her own quirks and things people tended to not like about her; which... isn't much quite frankly. She'll be the first to tell you that she's beautiful on the outside and inside, so she'll eventually get her way. Despite all this "baggage", she's mostly happy go lucky when not on the job. When on the job... look out.

What made you a legend in your world? Fortune met up with her Warlock Patron at an early age. Feeling a burden to rid her small part of the realm of any undead dark art practitioners and undead in general, she learned some skill from a notable bounty hunter at the time, and took on her first job. She uncovered a man trying to raise undead for some dark God's purposes, and exposed him, bringing him to justice. This led to another job and another, and another, until her fame grew.
Her calling card as of late is to use a teleportation spell to transfer man or beast to places that want them captured or killed. She transports them dead or alive, sometimes with them, sometimes just her bounty.
Oddly enough, she's not much of a warrior. Armed only with a quarterstaff, her skill lies in the divine arcane gifts from her Queen, as well as the Sorcerous Shadow magic she has gained along the way.
Being a legend means she is rarely contradicted when in any civilized place since her face is well known. But, this means she is sometimes greeted by her more and more powerful foes as her reputation is wide reaching.

What rare items would you be interested in having? #1)Ring of spell storing, #2)Cloak of Displacement, #3) Magical staff, #4) Hewards Handy Haversack, or a portable hole.

Application: Red-Haired Moll
right-aligned image
Red-Haired Moll
Name: Molly McBride (Red-Haired Moll).
Race: Half-elf
Class: Fighter (Champion)/Warlock (Hexblade)/Rogue (Swashbuckler)
Background: Pirate

Description with picture: It’s been said for generations that somewhere in the distant past, the McBride clan mingled with the native fey that ruled before men set foot in these lands. Of course, if that ever happened it was long ago, and the fair folk had not been seen in these parts for so long that any fey blood there was had certainly been diluted in the line. Still, every so often subtle features would pop up in one of her clan: a slightly pointed ear, or an almond eye. In Molly however, the blood seemed to be particularly strong.

Though she no doubt maintains her bright ginger hair from her human heritage, her complexion seems to be surprisingly pale, almost ashen. Though she spends a great deal of her time exposed to the elements, her skin never takes on the bronzed look of her fellow sailors. But even more striking is the magic in her blood. She has an innate talent for bending light and shadow to her whim. Other than that, Molly is accustomed to being underestimated due to her petite stature and her slight frame.

Personality Information: Moll makes up for her small stature and slight frame with a truly over-sized personality. She is friendly and gregarious, quick with a story or a joke, easy to laugh loudly and boisterously, with an ever-present, slightly-lopsided smile on her lips, suggesting a hint of mischief always lying underneath everything she says.

What made you a legend in your world?
Molly grew up in a small rural seaside fiefdom caled KilGarin. Her family was probably the closest thing to aristocracy in the area, a clan of small-time merchants living among farmers and fishermen. If there was any real class difference, it was hardly noticeable in her upbringing. Perhaps she had a bit more freedom and less responsibility than those around her, but she certainly wasn’t treated like any sort of noble lady. She spent most of her time down on the docks, practicing tying knots, hauling nets, and hoisting sails. All in all, it was a good life … that is, until the Imperial Troops arrived.

The Empire claimed dominion over their lands, set a local governor in place, and began demanding tribute. When the people of KilGarin objected, the Imperial Troops stepped in to subjugate them swiftly and brutally. Molly’s father saw it as his duty to oversee and protect his people. He and his seven brothers organized a rebellion against the Imperial Occupation. Unfortunately the ragtag group of farmers and fishermen that they led onto the field were ill-equipped to stand up to the might of a trained Imperial Legion. Molly would never forget the day the Governor rode into the center of town and returned her father’s head, along with those of her seven uncles.

The Empire assumed that would be the end of the local resistance. With the heads of the clan quite literally removed, they did not believe they had anything to fear from the young girl they left behind. They could not have been more wrong. Molly knew that her people stood no chance meeting the Imperial troops on the open field of battle, but she also knew that they were far more accomplished sailors than any man-jack in the Imperial Navy. They took to the waters and became vicious raiders, striking out against the ships of the Empire, stealing back the ill-gotten treasures the Empire claimed for themselves. They struck swiftly in the dead of night, and retreated to sheltered coves unknown to the outsiders. They soon began disrupting trade routes, and hampering the Empire’s supply lines. It was a war of attrition that took years, during which tales of “Red-Haired Moll” spread like wildfire. She was said to be daring almost to the point of recklessness, diving into battle against foes who strength far outweighed her own. And yet she was also known to be clever, striking enemy ships before they even knew she was there.

Eventually, her piracy grew from a nuisance to a severe liability for the Empire and they sought a truce. The people of KilGarin would be granted autonomy, on the condition that Red-Haired Moll cease all her activities and never be seen within the Empire again. Although her people had come to view her as their leader, sometimes even dubbing her “the Pirate Queen,” the Empire refused to acknowledge Moll’s role and would only treat with a distant cousin of hers whom they installed as local magistrate. Moll was big enough to swallow her pride though, recognizing that independence was best for her people, even if it meant she had to step out of the limelight. However, having tasted the freedom of the open seas, Moll could not bring herself to accept a quiet retirement on the land. And so it was that Red-Haired Moll placed her home in her wake and charted a course for the open horizon … and adventure!
What rare items would you be interested in having? Ok, I know this is a weird ask, but I would really like to have a magically enchanted ship’s cannon that I can use as my pact weapon.
Also, though it’s not an item per se, would it be possible to have the flying monkey familiar from Tomb of Annihilation?
Other than those, a Tome of Leadership and Influence would be great.

Name: the possibly late Theo Quartermain
Race: Variant Human
Class: Fighter (Champion) 20
Background: Criminal/Folk Hero mix

Trait: I judge people by their actions, not their words.
Ideal: Freedom. Tyrants must not be allowed to oppress the people.
Bond: I'm guilty of a terrible crime. I hope I can redeem myself for it.
Flaw: Secretly, I believe that things would be better if I were a tyrant lording over the land.

Description with picture:

Theo Quartermain the warrior wears simple studded leather armor over his faded, threadbare peasant's clothes. He wields a longsword, warhammer, and longbow and carries an undecorated shield. His eyes are stony, and his dirty blond beard has just enough gray in it to look every color except clean, even after he bathes. His arms are thicker than many men's legs (almost including his own), and his torso is so long that people sometimes wonder whether there is a dwarf in his distant ancestry, in spite of the fact that at 6'6", he towers over most humans. He also has a massive tuft of chest hair, of which he is secretly proud. Theo's voice is clear and commanding, and he radiates confidence.

Theo Quartermain the nameless, faceless beggar sits on a city street huddled under a dirty blanket big enough to hide his bulging muscles. He owns dirty blankets in a few common, dull colors and always uses the one that makes him blend in with his surroundings the most. He leaves his hood up but pushed back enough that it does not obscure his vision, and although he never seems to be paying attention, he sees almost everything. He rarely speaks above a mumble in this persona and will do his best to slouch to avoid looking like his full height.

Personality Information:

Theo Quartermain does not deserve better than to watch and to work. He is a fighter, trained only to kill, and to make up for killing those who didn't deserve it during his time as a soldier, he now only kills those who, addicted to their own power and privilege, would rule mercilessly over others. A creature of habit, he has followed the same path again and again; it is the only thing he can think of to assuage the guilt he carries.

First, he travels to a new land, dressed as a poor laborer. He will sit in the streets as a beggar if he can slip into town unnoticed; if not he claims to be an unskilled laborer looking for work. If the rulers are just and the people are largely happy, he moves on. However, if the people suffer under an unjust ruler, he finds those plotting rebellion and joins their cause. He demands for payment are always the same: Simple hot meals while he's there, a haircut, a new pair of pants or blanket if something needs replacing, and a warning: "After we succeed, do not become the people you drive away. You have suffered under injustice, so make sure you govern with mercy. I don't want to have to come back here again."

Theo has done this enough times and become famous enough that he gets a weird pleasure out of standing up to his full height and letting people realize who he is.

When victory for the cause is secured, Theo departs quietly, unnoticed. If he has coin enough to bribe any bards involved, he will ask them to pass along the word that he died in the battle and make up any tale they like about what happened to his corpse. Because of this, he has tombstones in seven different countries. He left flowers on one of them once.

Theo has only one truly close friend, an elven druid named Lucien Sylvaranth, who keeps trying to persuade Theo to abandon civilization entirely and defend nature instead. Theo is tempted but continually turns him down out of his own sense of obligation. They only see each other every few years.

What made you a legend in your world?

His ability to swing a cause in his favor combined with the fact that no one knows whether Theo is alive or dead.

Originally a common soldier in the former Bright Empire of Mauland (now the Republic of Mauland), Private Theo Quartermain's unit was ordered to slaughter every man, woman, and child in the neighboring Free City of Eblan. Theo wasn't especially enthusiastic about genocide, but the Bright Emperor was not to be questioned. Killing everyone he came across (40 men, 38 women, and 75 children) in his usual emotionless manner, Theo overheard his commanding officer yell, "You die, bitch!" Theo rushed to see if officer needed aid, only to find a newly deceased little girl at the end of the officer's spear. The officer spat, "Little brat tried to beg for her life," as though this was the most obscene thing someone could do, and Theo snapped—fueled by the realization that he, after childhood dreams of being a honorable soldier for the Bright Emperor, was one of the bad guys. He lopped the officer's head off in one swing and went looking for anyone he could rescue from his country's own onslaught. Alas, there were none left, so Theo grabbed a horse fled into the night. The Wanted posters bearing his likeness would be posted by the following evening.

Two years later, he resurfaced 500 miles away in Spaubia. After striking the killing blow to the Spaubian king's personal bodyguard, he slipped away, letting the rebels he had joined accept King Auron IV's surrender and form their new government.

A year after that, he was seen leading the charge to storm the corrupt Senate of the Itic Republic. The charge succeeded, and this was the first time it was reported that Theo Quartermain had died in battle.

Just six months later, he was spotted in the Great Riakyrslands Farmers' Revolution. The farmers won, and The Riakyrslands remain a free and wealthy land to this day.

Two years later, Theo returned to Spaubia. The leaders of the original rebellion had proven to be even worse that King Auron IV. Once again, Theo supposedly died in battle, although, unlike the original Spaubian rebel leaders, his corpse was never found. The second generation of Spaubian rebels learned the lesson of the first, and Theo never had to return again.

The following year, Theo managed to slip back into the Bright Empire. He had wanted to be the one to slay the Bright Emperor, feeling that it might ease the guilt he felt over Eblan, but there were many others with their own grudges, and the Bright Emperor's "light" faded at the hands of another.

The list of places changed by Theo Quartermain's arrival continued to grow. No tyrant was too large or small to escape his interest. From the family of the power-mad Sheriff of Athington Hamlet, his three brothers, and their wives (Theo spared all the children, and made it abundantly clear to the other 43 people in the deep-woods town that the newly orphaned children were to be shown love and care and taught to be better) to the Great Red Dragon ruling all of the distant continent of Baqueco, all fell before Theo Quartermain's blade.

Although Theo Quartermain will never realize it and wouldn't believe it anyway, no man has done more for more people, usually for no payment beyond a share of some thin stew and old bread. These days, he is a legend—kings fear he might actually be alive and watching, and poor peasants who can't afford their crazed ruler's latest tax demands hope and pray he really exists. Theo has overheard conversations about himself by people who were standing less than ten feet away, blissfully unaware that the beggar shrouded by a tattered blanket and making mumbled requests for coppers was the hero they were looking for.

Are you ready to have some fun! I'm pretty sure I'm out of my depth playing a 20th-level character, but bring it!

Hey guys! Just wanting to let you know that I am still here and getting things on my end figured out.

I am going to move up the deadline to Sunday, September 17 so that the people that still have WIP characters can have them finish up.

From the looks of things I may do two groups of 4, or I may just do one bigger group.

Hope you are all doing good and am giving feedback to characters right away!

How are we generating Ability Scores (I assume point buy) and hit points (average?)

Also, you said that when characters are dead, they are dead forever in this game. I take it that means that my characters various resurrection spells would not work? (Assuming I am one of the chosen ones)

A level 20? Hell yeah I'll apply. Quick Question. when you say "Mechanical from Background" do you mean the example traits and flaws and such from the books? Cause that's how I read it but would not mind tweaking them as usual. But I put some in that are close to what I wanted.

left-aligned image

Name: Era Ashen
Race: Fire Genasi
Class: Artificer- Battle Master
Background: Guild Artisan
Description with picture: Much like his name Era has ashen skin. His hair is a bright fire red and (while not literally on fire) always seems to catch even the smallest wind to move like it is. It is a bright conteast to his skin. He has a fair share of scars.

Personality Information: Mechanical, that goes with background
Personality Trait: I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing right. I can't help it – I'm a perfectionist.
Ideal: Community. It is the duty of all civilized people to strengthen the bonds of community and the security of civilization.
Bond: I created a great work for someone, and then found them unworthy to receive it. I'm still looking for someone worthy
Flaw: I'm quick to assume that someone is trying to cheat me.

What made you a legend in your world?

Era began his career as an artificer in the most prestigious magical university in his kingdom. He excelled at his studies and eventually went on to become an accomplished Enchanter by the conventional means. He was unique in his ability to coax a little extra magic out of the items. Quite good a shortcuts and inventive solutions.
What changed him was when war came to his home country. He and his colleges were drafter into the war effort for production of magical weapons and such. Era, being fairly young, was sent to the lines to help maintain the magical defenses. It was here that he found is real calling. He served valiantly both in battle and in his creations. He not only maintained what defenses and machines they had but made many revolutionary ones that helped turn the tide of the
war. The war waged for years. But it did eventually end. He was hailed as the best Artificer in the land.

After the war ended he continued his his studies and experiments. Many wanted him to create for them. The Current and new Ruler of the Land commissioned him to make a weapon as a symbol of office. It was to be unlike any other in power and craftsmanship. It took almost a year. But Era made this weapon. Unfortunately during this year the new king had shown himself to be craven and cruel now that there was no war to hide his crimes behind. Era would not give him the weapon. He disappeared from the public life after that. He still has the weapon but will never use it himself. It is for some destined to be greater then he.

What rare items would you be interested in having?
As a battle master definitely some form of enchanted weapon. Preferably one I can use in range or melee. Or a Brass horn of Valhalla

In addition to his own I included in the backstory the weapon he made and carries. He wont use it and I figured it could be a fun plot hook for you to make something and another character to earn it.

I am ruling that in game you can use spells like revivify, if you meet the rules of that spell, so timing will matter. Any resurrection like spells when combat is complete is when I am not allowing a character to be brought back.

Hope that works for you.
