This should be a fun adventure we are embarking on, indeed. Thank you all again for your donated time, and for facilitating this event. I hope to produce some quality narratives and character development in return for all to enjoy.

Thanks for this feedback, I have found it both encouraging and instructive.

I'll have to think about how to play Counsellor Albright proactively. I suspect part of the issue there is my not really understanding how one plays an RPG competitively like this. Hopefully as we start to get into the first round, I'll get a clearer picture of what needs to be done to participate in the way the competition expects.

I'm definitely not the best person to give advice here because the competitive part of the competition is the part that I'm least worried about, but it essentially comes down to finding a narrative spotlight for your character and then decisively driving the action forward. The former is a bit easier with a reactive character while the latter is a bit harder. While posts that manage to help others stand out make your own character shine as well, framing the narrative in a way that allows the judges to decide that in a given situation your character stood out the most takes a certain writing ability and a careful touch with delivering your post's emphasis.

I think as long as you remind yourself what makes your concept cool and spectacular compared to the others and if you translate that into your posts, you're probably good to go. I think this is probably the hardest to put your thumb on, because the enjoyability score of the competition is highly subjective. I make it a bit easier on myself. As long as I was proud to have written the post and enjoyed it myself, I'll go away with a good feeling. That way the competition is mostly a frame that allows me to discern future improvements, and then in the end we get to celebrate the player who managed to woo the judges the most that year. I always thought of roleplay as an artform, and creative writing apart from a technical level falls into the same wheelhouse. No matter who wins in the end, we should all be able to appreciate the various ways in which the players managed to express their love for their characters and this hobby this year. I think that would be the ideal.

I think another good question to ask yourself is: "What makes my character and their unique concept relevant to this scene?" If you manage to answer that question and let your writing deliver on that answer, you've probably done a lot right already.

So first off the feedback is much appreciated! Always good to see what others see in your characters.

Really need to watch my spelling, but that's nothing new. I think my attempt of conveying that the guy I've got is a combo of scotty from star trek and a burnt out techie from the real world may not have come through 100%?

Also my skills came across as a bit vague and i'll be honest I had a hard time coming up with something that might work. What i have took a while to come up with

Round 1 should be visible now. Note, for Round 1 only, the two threads are set to exclude the players from the other bracket. I know there are ways to get around this, but the intent is for you to only worry about your bracket for this week. The two groups are running in parallel, we will be combining them into one group for Round 2. Try to keep game discussions and planning out of the OOC threads for this round, to help keep your threads activity private. Again, this will not be an issue in later rounds.

I'll try to be attentive as much as possible to answer any questions that come up ASAP.

I would normally start on my update right about now. Given that it is the 4th (US Holiday), I have a bit of yard work my wife has informed me needs to get taken care of before I begin, so it will be just a bit later today than normal. As a reminder, the next GM update will come in on Thursday the 6th of July, so you will get an extra day to post, if needed.
