Religious beliefs on the mainland are generally non-theistic (godless).

In Anur, the Red Church is the most prominent religion. They believe in the cycle of rebirth. It is their belief that undeath is caused by sin and that fire cleanses the soul so that it can be reborn. Their symbol is a red wheel and their preists are generally of the Life and Light domains.

Cults are also fairly common. Some are non-threatening, some are assuredly evil.

Other religions exists and you are free to make your own. I have only one hard rule for this: no religion has ever found irrefutable proof of what happens after death.

Application - Hedran Shepherd
right-aligned image
Name: Hedran Shepherd

Class: Cleric (of nature)

Background: Custom: Using Folk Hero as a base but swapping Stealth for Animal handling and artisan tool proficiency for land vehicle proficiencyAspiring hero

Description: Hedran has always been a tall and skinny kid rather than overly bulky and now that he is a young man that fact has not changed much. Hedran very much has the look of a commoner about him his longish dark brown hair is often somewhat messy and it is not unusual for the young man to have some dirt smeared across his face. Despite all this Hedran could be considered fairly handsome if not in a somewhat rough around the edges sort of way, his rather eye catching green eyes at the very least makes the young man’s face stand out.

Since becoming a priest Hedran has started dressing a little more smartly than he did in his youth however he still favours function over fashion. His favoured outfit consists of sturdy boots, dark trousers and a leather brigandine dyed brown and dark green, the only contrast of colour being a pair of leaves in a rich russet red over his right breast ( the symbol of the Church of the Russet Leaves). When travelling outside Hedran will often add a dark green hooded cloak to this ensemble.

Hedran has rather humble origins and deep down he is a rather simple man. He is hard working and used to putting in the effort to get something done. He believes in looking out for other people and doing what is right. Growing up he was rather heavily influenced by his uncles story’s and he has always had a deep desire to be brave and heroic like he believes his uncle to be. While Hedran can be rather calm and patient with other people and comes across as rather likeable he has a rather reckless streak and is prone to taking risks. He has a rather strong moral compass and will stand up for what he sees as right often at the detriment of his own personal safety. While not arrogant per say Hedran secretly believes that he is destined for something great.

Backstory: As his family names suggests Hedran is the descendant of a long line of simple shepherds who for generations lived off of and worked on the Anurian plains. When Hedran was born his family were living just outside the small town of Ludlow. Hedran was the only son of Jothan and Laila Sheperd and the small family lived in a small shack that stood practically on its own a fair distance outside of the town where there was plenty of land for their sheep and goats to graze.

Jothan and Laila were good people and they raised their son in relative peace as they taught the boy how to be a shepherd. Jothan however had a younger brother by the name of Tarrad who had never quite settled down to the life of a shepherd. Tarrad had left before Hedran was born and gone off and joined The Imperial Anurian army where he had ended up serving as a scout. Tarrad would often come home to visit while Hedran was growing up and the young Hedran saw his uncle as somewhat of a hero who had gone off on a life of adventure. Laila however saw her brother-in-law as a bad influence and feared that he would lead the young impressionable Hedran into danger.

When Tarrad did return he spent a lot of time with the young Hedran and aswell as telling him a lot of stories about his life as an Imperial scout Tarrad taught him alot. Tarrad for example taught the young boy how to fire his first bow and how to hunt, how to live off the land beyond what he already knew as a shepherd in training and how to set a trap. Both the stories and the training ignited a thirst for adventure in the young boy and if it wasn't for his mother stamping out such aspirations Hedran would have likely followed his uncle's footsteps and joined the army as soon as he was old enough to do so. Laila however fiercely forbid the boy from ever doing something as dangerous as joining the army. Still this did not stop the boy from doing reckless and foolish things as he grew. For example when the sheep began to be preyed on by some local predators the young Hedran pulled out his bow and snuck out in the middle of the night and put the skills his uncle had taught him to good use and tracked down the wolves responsible. Another time when Hedran and his father were in town to sell some of their produce Jothan had his pouch cut, rather than report it to the town guard Hedran personally gave chase. Yet another time Hedran came across a brawl that had broken out in an inn, despite never having possessed a particularly muscular build Hedran threw himself in to the fight without hesitation and attempted to save a young man who was taking a beating from two larger men.

It quickly became clear to Hedran's parents that he would never settle for the life of a Shepherd and that he was a natural trouble magnet. The pair therefore conspired together to find a relatively safe future for the boy that would match the boy's aspirations of doing good in the world. Jothan therefore approached the local priest from a small church of the Russett Leaves. The church of the Russet Leaves was a minor branch of the Red Church. While the majority of their beliefs matched the Russet Leaves were a far less militant branch and focused more on achieving a natural balance with the world around them. Jothan managed to convince the elderly priest to take on Hedran as an apprentice of sorts hoping that a life of helping people through healing would sate the boy's thirst for doing good. Hedran actually threw himself in to this new opportunity and while he learnt a lot from Ashrin the elderly priest it did not truly change who Hedran was inside.

While Hedran grew as a young priest he still saw his uncle from time to time and never fully gave up his dream of following him on some great adventure. He never stopped practicing what his uncle taught him either. It was not unusual of an evening to see the young priest in the courtyard behind the small church with a bow in hand firing at a target or swinging around a long stick as though it were a sword.

When Tarrad left for the island Hedran did not think much of it at first. It was no different then any other time that he had left to go with the army and sure enough the man kept in touch as he always did. It was only when the letters stopped and no word returned from the island did Hedran and his parents begin to worry.

Once word got round that an expedition was going to be sent to the island Hedran made a snap decision and signed up at once. Writing a letter to his parents explaining that he was going to find his uncle Hedran then packed up and left for the merchant ship that would ferry the expedition there.

Motivation: Hedran's uncle was one of the settlers in the last expedition that attempted to colonise the island of Ramia a year ago. He had kept in contact with the family for a while but now they have not heard from him in months. Hedran is determined to find his uncle or at the very least find out what happened to him.

In addition to wanting to find his uncle Hedran has always had the urge to do something heroic and exciting and Ramia seems the perfect opportunity for both.

Role: Healer (archer, scout)

Character Concept
right-aligned image

Name: Elrahic Endruette
Class: Sorcerer 1
Background: Sailor

Description:
Elrahic is a wiry, deeply tanned man of average height with a shaved bald head and thick black eyebrows. His face is hawk-like and his eyes are completely black, giving him an unsettling appearance at first, but his easy smile and friendly personality can put others at ease. He stands proudly and has a slight bow legged gait as one does after years of heavy sailing, and he favors using a large walking stick to get around. He wears a loose fitting white shirt that ties at the chest, tucked into a pair of dark brown breeches with a thick leather belt around his waist and a brace of daggers. On his feet are a pair of worn but well maintained boots, and he has the slight swagger to his gait that many a seafaring man adopts. Elrahic is a hard working and reliable young man, but quiet and often keeps to himself. He enjoys the simple things in life and has a strong desire to visit and experience the land of Ramia to see what lies beyond.

Backstory:
Pronounced "El-ray-hickElrahic is the middle son of a trade ship's captain, and all his life he has known the sea. His father, Captain Andenar Endruette, owns the trade ship Venturous and as soon as Elrahic was old enough he was earning his keep as his father's cabin boy before becoming old enough to join the crew. His older brother Ulrion was a natural, and soon became his father's first mate. His younger brother Berik never had the sea legs for the ocean, but being that it was a family business he was always forced to come along by their mother, Calhine. It was a hard but happy life for the Endruette family, full of the freedom of the ocean and the wind in their hair. That all changed six moons ago.

The storm hit quickly that night and caught the crew off guard. The Venturous was taking in a lot of water but still standing, and the crew was desperately working to keep it afloat. A large wave took Berik overboard and, without even hesitating, Elrahic dove into the raging waters to attempt to save his brother. The two found each other but the waters were too powerful, and both were sucked underneath, destined to drown together. The last Elrahic can remember of Berit is them desperately holding hands as they were driven deeper and deeper into the ocean, until finally their hands grew limp and left each other. Blackness enveloped Elrahic, and he began to slumber off to the afterlife.

He remembers the blackness, and then the voice. The deep, seductive voice. It echoed as if in a large chamber, with the faint sound of water behind it. It told him he, Elrahic, didn't have to die. He, the Voice, could save him. He could save him and give him power, power like none other has seen, if only he would agree to serve the Voice. Desperate for life, Elrahic agreed, and he suddenly awoke at the surface of the water, being pulled aboard by his father and Ulrion. Although they didn't say it at the time, the two men immediately knew something had happened to Elrahic, as his once sky blue eyes had become completely black throughout. Berik was never recovered. While he recovered, Elrahic discovered he know possessed magical abilities, given to him by The Voice, as Elrahic has taken to calling him. When he was brought before the Mage's Guild of Lamras, Elrahic never mentioned The Voice. He simply said he began to drown and that is when he felt a strange power within him before he was saved by his father and brother. The Mage's Guild has assumed he is a budding sorcerer, and consider him as such. Elrahic believes this as well, and refers to himself as a sorcerer.

When his father's ship became tasked with taking the latest group to Ramia, The Voice has been encouraging Elrahic to join them. Initially hesitant to do so, Elrahic was eventually sold when The Voice told him it was his destiny and that much could be accomplished for the world by undertaking this task. Thus Elrahic has volunteered to go, much to the worries of his family, but who still support him in his newly chosen profession. (They admittedly fear him slightly as well, as the Endruette family has never had a magician in the family, and it is alien to them.)

Motivation: Elrahic says he feels he can do some good to help find survivors and bring order to Ramia.

Role: As a sailor, he can help with cartography and scouting, as well as piloting any vessels along waterways they can find. He also has his magical talents that he brings to the table. Some illusionary magic and enchantment, not to mention a silver tongue for talking to those looking to have us for dinner.

Name: Pensman
Class: Fighter
Background: Solider

Backstory: No more than a year....a year...what good is there in a year? And no more than? Shove it up your arse! Well that could just as easy be tomorrow! ....1 year....until whatever it is spreading through my body eats away and drops me like an arrow through the eye.
Ain't noone know what it is. Ain't noone know what to do with it. I'll just keep walking around until *POP* it finally gets at my heart.
HA! So what do I do? I do the most fool-hardy thing I can think of. Sign up for a trip to Ramia. Bloody ridiculous idea if you ask me twice. But if I'm gonna pop my clogs, there ain't no way I'm doing it in a bed! I've had a sword in my hand since I was 10, so ain't no disease gonna take me down! Blaze of glory, here I come!

Description: Even before he was marked for death, Pensman laughed in the face of danger. He was first always into the fray and the last to ask "Is this really a good idea?". He relied on his lightning fast sword work to keep all his limbs attached to his person, they were after all, very important to him. He could swirl his blade around as if it was nothing but a pen, hence the name. But despite his prowess in battle, he never rose through the ranks. He was a career solider in a sense, meaning he was a solider and he was still alive. After he was deemed a liability due to his disease, and discharged from the army, he was left with little but the chain on his back. But in the ranks or not, he loves his country and wears his military garb with pride. Thrice the pride of his own appearance. With black hair growing out with streaks of grey and a straggly beard to match, he is incredibly unkept (bar his armour). Having been given a limited life expectancy he sees little stock in grooming.

Motivation: The Last hurrah! Going down swinging!

Role: Meat Shield. Ain't gonna live out the year anyway, so gotta make sure everyone else does!

Name: Sylvestre Coldstream

Race: Human (Variant)

Class: Druid

Background: I chose Acolyte though he would worship nature deities rather than the red church

Description: Sylvestre has a ruddy complexion that matches his mud colored hair. He sports a relatively lax frame considering he is of slightly above average height.

Backstory: Sylvestre was born to humble beginnings on a farm in the Anurian countryside, and truth be told he would been happy if that was all there was to his story. Unfortunately for him, and his parents, the young boy began to have certain "incidents" that showed him to posses magical abilities, and so he was taken before the Guild for assessment. However, due to his lack of basic knowledge, and since his ability to control these powers was so minuscule, that it was determined that 'As long as these abilities were not acknowledged, or nurtured, they would simply atrophy with time. Leaving him "normal" as he aged into adolescence and beyond.' They did not, and while he has certainly not gained much in the ways of powerful magic, he has been able to refine his grasp on some of the more simple tricks such as creating a small flame, or causing a light to appear in the darkness.

Sylvestre is almost always accompanied by his closest friend, "Buddy", who is a screech owl.

Motivation: In a word? Fear. Sylvestre is registered with the Mages guild, though he questions whether it would have been better to remain an apostate. He has managed to keep a relatively low profile of himself, and considering that most of his displayed magic is healing they have deigned to allow him his privacy. However certain members have begun to ask questions about his beliefs behind the magic and of his true potential, and Sylvestre is hoping that by fleeing to the new world he might be able to find some form of protection. Either by becoming a hero, or at the very least via the distance placed between Ramia and Anur

Role: Sylvestre would likely call himself a student of nature, or possibly a teacher, depending on what you needed him to be in the moment. He would also be able to take care of basic spiritual needs of the group and handle basic Healing if nobody else was around that was more qualified... Essentially he's a hedge witch

Name: Ruby Rice
Class: Wizard (Illusionists)
Background: Sage (Researcher)
Description: Ruby is a woman in her early twenties, she stands at least 5'2" tall and has a good figure under her robes. Her short Auburn hair spills out from her dark blue cloak, her eyes are black, but when casting spells, her irises dilate unnaturally. Hidden under her robes are various arcane symbols tattooed on her body, some of which are considered a taboo in the Mages Guild.
Personality: Ruby is considered a prodigy among her organization, she has a sort of ego about her, she's a somewhat prideful person. Her profession as an illusionist has made her a skilled liar of her craft, yet it's also used as a defense mechanism for her past traumas. Also, she just loves the company of others.

She has only utter contempt to the Mages Guild and those that associate with them.
Backstory: Long ago, before the Anurian Empire's founding, there once existed a more powerful kingdom that paled in comparison to the empire. The Kingdom of Constipatinople, it was ruled by a Sorcerer King. He was a benevolent ruler, using ancient and powerful magical power, the likes of which never seen to this day, to help all of his subjects, even the lowliest of the low aren't exempt toward his help. Yet, it disappeared once the foundations of the Anurian Empire started taking its place. Some scholars theorized that the kingdom disappeared due to a plague, or maybe it was a war of epic proportions, no one knows but the ruins of such great kingdoms still lay its landmark upon the world of today.

And there are also those that keep the Kingdom of Constipatinople alive, scholars and sages are what come to mind. But there's another that the Mages Guild of Lamras refuses to have anyone mention, the Yellow Ziggurats, an order of magi that claim to be descendants of the citizens of Constipatinople. They are of the belief that all magic and knowledge should be given to the people and have been directly opposed to the Guild's belief. Yet, such an organization is fractured, some zealous members even done arcane experiments that are just foul and inhumane, a reason that the Guild wishes to stop all Ziggurat activities.

Ruby wasn't of Constipatinople descent, she was but an orphan that was adopted by one of the members. Unfortunately, they were of the more immoral sect, they experimented on her, wanting to see what they could find. But she was found and rescued by a more benevolent sect. Over time she began to trust this organization and became loyal to the Ziggurat, though she still suffers mentally from the pain inflicted on her. It was found that she was prodigious in the ways of magic, they didn't know it was due to the tattoos or because it was a natural talent, but this organization wanted to protect her from the Guild, who knows what they could do to such a person.
Motivation: Ruby has found out hints that Ramia could contain the last resting place of the Sorcerer King, she seeks a voyage to investigate and hopefully excavate. As Ruby grew through her adolescent years, her ambition grew as well. You see, she's not only doing this to advance Yellow Ziggurat's goals, but she secretly believes she could be a direct descendant of the Sorcerer King himself (This could be an actually lineage or it could be a side-effect of the tattoos)
Role: Utility Caster, Trickster, Archeologists

Banyon Cintero
Name: Banyon Cintero
Class: Fighter (plan to go Battlemaster)
Race: Variant Human
Feat: Martial Adept
Background: Soldier

Description: Banyon is a handsome man that has an air of confidence about him. He is tall, well-muscled and moves with purpose. While he is not physically imposing, he does strike a cutting figure. His long chestnut hair is often braided on one side and hangs straight down the other. He is quick to smile and comfortable talking with friends and strangers alike. He is often optimistic, encouraging and sure of his abilities - at least on the surface. His bold and outgoing personality is an unconscious attempt to hide the insecurity and doubt he buries deep inside.
The one area he feels sure of himself is combat. When he spars or fights all his insecurities and internal distractions fade away. The leader he has the potential to be shines in these moments and those who know him well see that this is his true calling, not the path he forces himself on to follow in his father's footsteps.

Backstory: Ramia was an opportunity for the taking! Banyon knew that this time fortune would surely smile on him. She owed him that much after years of ignoring him. Ramia would change things around. No more asking his father to cover his debts and no more being reminded that his brothers did not burden the old man with failed deals and ill-thought ventures.
It was just this past week that Banyon had overheard talk of a voyage going to Ramia. The hoped to find out what had happened to the settlers. A fool's errand for sure as they were long dead, but he would help explore and search for them. And as he did so, he would search for his fortune. Surely there were exotic goods to be found, goods that those back in Anur would pay handsomely for. Now was not the time to think small though. Peddling goods was not enough. No, he would need to control the trade to keep demand and prices high. To do so, he would need to rebuild the settlement and ensure its safety. His father's insistence on Banyon serving in his merchant guard, the one good thing the old man had done for him, would come in handy. He could put that experience to good use in securing their foothold in Ramia and protecting what they built. In return, he would forge an agreement where he would have the trade rights of the settlement. Let others run the place, that was of no interest to him. As his father always said, better to be the one the throne comes to for coin than sit on the throne yourself. It's more profitable and you tend to live longer.

Motivation: To find his fortune in Ramia, prove to his father that he is a success and finally get his respect.

Role: Tradesman, Defender, Tactician. He views himself as a merchant prince, his siblings' view him as nothing more than an embarrassment who can do little more than be a caravan guard and his father views him as a failure.

Torin Badgerbun

I am not certain if you still apply posts, but I wanted to join.
Damionovich, I tried to connect my Char with yours, I hope you like the idea, if you don't please let me know.

Name: Torin Badgerbun
Class: Paladin
Age; 28 years old
Background: Custom (Stone Maison)
Personality Trait; Family first, family by blood or hardship, both are family for me. Even someone as unruly as my younger sister Bronwen.
Ideals; Life is change, the only constant is the blood of our fathers.
Bonds; My family, Clan, and tribe are the most important things in my life.
Flaws; When I am under a lot of pressure I need to vent my anger.
Description: Torin is 5'5" and well build. He has long red hair with green eyes. Like most of his relatives he wears animal pelts but, unlike most he also has some armour.
Backstory: Coming from the outskirts of civilization, some heavy battles were fought between Anurian and Keille just east of their lands, as the blood and magic spilled in such amounts the ground was poisoned the river brought some of the poison and the once fertile land now grew barren and life has become harsh.
Some stayed especially the older generation and those living further from the river, the leap into the unknown was not for the faint of heart. But by leaving Torin hoped that those staying would have enough land to use the few usable bits and survive. Maybe in a dozen years the ground would have healed enough and he could return.

Motivation: Torin is hoping to find a better place to settle with his extended family.

Job: Stone maison and with some minor medicine

He is traveling with his wife Ciara (25 years) Farmer and clothier,
His eldest son Cian (8 years and a real daredevel who thinks this will be a big adventure), his twin daughters Brianna and Sloane (6 years and a bit scared of leaving everything behind), his daughter Alana (4 years a bit of a smartypants who wants to be like Cian in everything he does) and Patrick a lovely sweet easy son of 3 years. The last addition to their family is the young Makenna (3 years) who is the daughter of Ciara's sister, who died from the poisoning. As Patrick was still being weened Ciara and Torin took in Makenna and consider her one of their own. But the poisoning of her mother transferred some of the magic residue to Makenna. While Makenna is not sickly, Ciara and Torin have noticed that unusual things have a tendency to happen around her. And they fear that she might have to be taken away to the guild had they stayed.
Furthermore there is of course Bronwen with her Husband Connor and their 3 kids (Owen (m, 7 yrs), Tegan (m, 5 yrs),Keita (f, 3 years) and the elder brother Finley with his wife Nora and their kids.

Some more motivation to explore the land.

Sir Aethor Valour Vilkagar, OOS
right-aligned image
Name: Sir Aethor Valour Vilkagar, Order of the Old Stones, Heir to Baron Voxus Meagor Vilkagar

Class: Battlemaster Fighter (Sword and Board)

Background: Poor Nobleman

Description: Dark of hair and eye. Serious of expression, though not without humor. Tall, but not overly so with well proportioned limbs. He is in possession of strong masculine features, a potent baritone voice and a thick black beard when he deigns to grow it out. He's 25.

His noble bearing and aristocratic upbringing are obvious and difficult for him to suppress. While he is keenly aware of class boundaries, he's less concerned about formalities outside of a formal setting. He treats people with the respect they earn, regardless of their class, which sometimes gets him into trouble with higher ups.

Motivation: Land, money, power. Also, loyalty, as having people you can trust who, in turn, trust you, is essential to getting the other three in the first place.

Role: Fighter and field commander. Entrepreneur.

My Story
Why would I go? Land, of course. Fortune and glory. Well, perhaps not glory, so much. That usually requires a sacrifice of the fatal variety which would undo my purpose in going.

Yes, yes, pedestrian and mercenary goals, I admit, but have you ever heard of the Vilkagar? No? Well there's a good reason for that. You do know of the Barony of Wolf Hills, yes? A hundred years ago it was a Vilkagar holding. Yes. And Bluestone Castle was our family seat.

You see we Vilkagar tend to live above our means. It's a flaw in the blood, I suppose. Two generations ago we traded off the last of our assets and have been surviving on the kindness of others since. I believe father's pride would have him starve to death rather than bear the indignity of charity, but there is still my mother, Charris, and Jakkon to think about.

There was a brief bright hope when my brother Berrin stood for us. He was the firstborn and had decided it was his duty to rescue us from our shame. He joined the company of The Brass Duke, Lord Hierkhol Varney the Second. It was the whole border skirmish thing with the Serrinese. He made himself invaluable to The Duke, which he hoped would earn him favor and perhaps concessions when the war was complete. The problem is, when one makes themselves useful in war, they tend to get used.

Berrin was a highly competent combatant, a charismatic leader and loved by all fortunate enough to find themselves in his presence. He was the epitome of the first born noble son. No-no, I'm serious. I not making fun. Berrin was a great man, truly. Unfortunately, time and again, he took terrible risks. They paid off, again and again, too. Until they didn't.

He'd made a name for himself among the enemy. How they hated him. He'd handed them so many defeats. Killed so many of their brothers. When they finally got him: terrible. They desecrated his flesh and used his impaled corpse as a banner at the Battle of the Forks. Thanks, in part to him, they won that battle too. Seeing his broken, ruined body sapped Anurian morale. They broke and were driven from the field. Yes, he was that Berrin. So you know the rest, then.

So, it fell to me, my sister Constance, or Jakkon to take on the duties of the firstborn. Jakkon, the youngest, is the brightest, sweetest and the most intrinsically good person I have ever been blessed to know. Unfortunately, he suffers from sleeping sickness.

If he gets too warm, or too excited or too tired or, sometime for no apparent reason at all, he'll faint dead away. He's learned to feel it coming on, so he doesn't hurt himself often, but, unfortunately, he is ill suited for gainful employment. What he excels at is reading quietly in a well supplied salon with great quantities of books and large sun-facing windows to read them by. Historically that doesn't pay well.

Constance married a gentleman gambler. On purpose, mind you. She's as deeply effected by the family curse as anyone and Heron, that's her husband, loved the finer things too. He has won and lost more wealth than most kings. Anyway, as long the high times were high enough, she was willing to suffer when the low times were low. Five years on and they're still getting along famously. Bit jealous, if I'm being totally honest.

And that leaves me, on a boat to Ramia, wearing the last dregs of Vilkagar wealth. If there is gold or silver, I'll mine it. If the wood grows straight and strong, I'll sell it. I may even build ships for war or trade. If the soil is fertile, I carve out plantations. And if none of that is true, I'll sell lies that it is. I'll build a port and hire every crier on the continent to extol the virtues of Ramia. Then I'll sell the settlers and adventurers food, supplies, services and maybe, occasionally, tickets home when they go bust.

So, that's me. What madness drives you to this folly?

Readying for Ramia“I’m sorry, Sylvestre, but I can’t afford to pay you. The young lord walked with a another of roughly the same height, but of a less athletic build. “Beyond my title, I haven’t much more than you, I’m afraid. Mind the drops.” The two parted to step wide around a fresh pile of horse manure.

“I swear, I thought they'd passed a law that had you attach a dun bag to these animals when you have them on public streets. If they haven’t, they should.”

“Where was I? Ah. I can promise you that your fortunes will rise with mine and that you will always have a place at my hearth, of course. I know too that you have had to register with The Guild since your affliction didn’t politely fade. If you are only joining me to flee them, I still would have you come along. You have always been a fast friend.”

Up ahead another tall young man jogged toward them. He was thinner still.

“Here he comes. Hedran he’s called. He’s a fair shot and a fine fellow, if I’m any judge. He dabbles in healing magic as well. At this rate they’re going to burn me for consorting with too many witches.”

To the newcomer he joked, “Looks as though you’re the only one in Ludlow foolish enough to sign on. Welcome.” He gestured to his companion, “This is Sylvestre. He’ll also be joining us.”

The two men quickly exchanged pleasantries.

“Next stop is dockside. We’re picking up a ‘specialist’ and his family who will be migrating to Ramia. I believe he’s part of a prison population reduction scheme, or some such. His name is, no-no, don’t tell me. Ma-Coor. That’s it. He’s not a violent offender, or so I’m told, and his a wife and child are expected to root him to the settlement and keep him on task. We’ll see.”

“We should pick up the pace. I want time to chat him up. Try to get a feel for who he is. See how much trouble we’re buying for ourselves.“

He is traveling with his wife Ciara (25 years) Farmer and clothier,
His eldes son Cian (8 years and a real daredevel who thinks this will be a big adventure), his twin daughters Brianna and Sloane (6 years and a bit scared of leaving everything behind), his daughter Alana (4 years a bit of a smartypants who wants to be like Cian in everything he does) and Patrick a lovely sweet easy son of 3 years. The last addition to their family is the young Makenna (3 years) who is the daughter of Ciara's sister, who died from the poisoning. As Patrick was still being weened Ciara and Torin took in Makenna and consider her one of their own. But the poisoning of her mother transfered some of the magic residue to Makenna.
Love it..

So many really good applications. I don't like my chances. Still two weeks left to apply too. Hitch, I do not envy you for the choices you are going to have to make.

NAME: Professor Adam Flintrock
CLASS: Rogue
BACKGROUND: Sage / Specialty Professor
PERSONALITY TRAITS: 1)You might think I'm a scholar, but I love a good brawl. These fists were made for punching.
2) Traps don't make me nervous. Idiots who trigger traps make me nervous.
IDEAL: Death Wish. Nothing is more exihlarating than a narrow escape from the jaws of death.
Bond: I want to find my mentor Dr. Barnaby Jones, who disappeared on an exhibition some time ago.
Flaw: When given a choice to go left or right, I always go left.
DESCRIPTION: Professor Flintrock stands at a whopping 4' 8" and weighing in at 125lbs. He has black hair with a white streak and a black beard. Holds himself with a high posture and wears fine clothes. He carries a rapier and dagger, and a bow.
BACKSTORY: Adam Flintrock lost his parents at an early age. Grew up in and out of orphanages. It wasn't until he was in his teens when he tried to steal a Jeweled Dagger from the fames Dr. Barnaby Jones. Dr. Jones caught the boy, feed him clothes him and gave him a home, under the condition that he becomes his apprentice.

6 years later

Barnaby Jones:"Adam my boy, I will be setting sail for Ramia, as you Know Mr. Paco sponsors my expeditions from time to time. Just as you know he also is one of the biggest donors of the university. I am leaving you in charge of my classes, I will keep in touch. "

Professor Flintrock:"Dr. Jones why don't I come with you this time? Haven't I done well with the other expeditions? You may need my help, don't leave me here."

Dr.Jones:"This trip to Ramia is the third one. The first two, well you know didn't make it. Yes you have proven yourself quite adequately. Yes I would definitely be in need of your help. But, no need for us to both have the same fate. So I tell you dear boy if anything happens to me, take it to the headmaster of the university Mr. Sallah, plea your case and see if they will fund you to go to Ramia. But I do say all shall go well."

1 year later

Professor Flintrock: "Mr. Sallah it has been a year since, Dr. Jones left with the last expedition to Ramia. I haven't received a letter in months. So I ask you to support an expedition of my own. Not to just find the where abouts of Dr. Jones but, to find out what happened to the text of the people. Anything I find and or discover can be donated to the university I would just like the credit for finding it."

Mr. Sallah: "As you know professor Flintrock we are short on funds. There is no way we could pay the costs for another to go to Ramia. If anyone could afford it, it would be Mr. Paco he privately funds Dr. Jones, and would most definitely fund an expedition to find him. He may also be interested in any artifacts or discoveries made."

Mr. Paco: "Did I over hear you two talking about Dr.Jones and the Ramia expedition? If Dr. Jones is missing I will sponsor you to find him and the others. All I want is part ownership of any discoveries made. Now see to you make it back. Now Professor Flintrock I wish you the best of luck."

MOTIVATION: To find my mentor Dr. Barnaby Jones and learn what happened to the rest of the expedition group. And discover a lost city or find artifacts of a lost culture.

ROLE: Archeologist/adventurer/guide

I think we also need an idea of the technology level. Are black powder firearms, cannon, etc. in play?

The technology level is around the European High Middle Ages.

Blackpowder
A group of Osa Lepers introduced black powder to Keille around fifty years ago. Since then, the knowledge has spread and cannons and bombs have become common on ships and battlefields across the mainland.

Firearms
Firearms have started to appear in Keille in the past few years. Those from Keille would know that it is the Osa who are making them, not Killic engineers.

I've finished my application, but it feels a little simple at the moment. TBH Pensman doesn't have much of a backstory, it's all about what's to come and how he deals with his impending death.

Gone with Protection(fighting style) and Heavy Armor Master (feat) to enforce that meat shield role.
