Darkvision is automatic, but you can only see 30' in black and white. If there is enough light to see more than 30' then you see normally.
There are no rolls and no bonuses. -me

Edit Having now looked at the CS I see you have completed a 3.5e char sheet for an elf evoker? It appears that you asked this in the wrong thread (this is 4e ![]()

Is low-light vision that dwarves have essentially the same as darkvision?
Dwarves have encumbered speed. Does this affect the -1 I take to STR DEX and CON rolls from my chainmail armor? |

Nope, low-light vision lets you see normally in dim light, which gives a -2 penalty to attack rolls to those who don't have enhanced sight. Darkvision lets you see in pitch black darkness, but I don't think any of the player races has it.
It does not affect the armor check penalty, so your dwarf will take that -1 to the relevant skills. Last edited by Teemu; Mar 5th, 2010 at 12:05 PM. |

My dwarven weapon training feat gives me +2 damage with axes and hammers.
When I use an ability that's damage is 2[W] I roll 2d12 for my Greataxe right? Do I then add +2 to damage or +4, +2 for each roll? Would this scenario work the same as when I would roll a natural 20 and invoke my weapon's high crit special?

The feat is a simple +2 to the damage, not per roll so if your bonuses to a damage roll work out at say +6 then they become +8 no matter how many dice you roll or whether it's a crit. It's a bonus to any damage done with axes and hammers. The multiplier is always against the number of dice, not the bonuses. Using maths it's: (2*W) + mods not 2*(W+mods)
Pages 276 and 278 PHB deal with critical hits. For your greataxe, a high crit weapon, you will deal an extra 1[W] damage. Now with high crit weapons this extra damage isn't automatically maximum you have to roll it. How will this work for you with your feat bonus? Like this: The greataxe crits and does an extra 1[W] damage (in the heroic tier). It automatically does at least 12 (first 1[W], maxed) +2 (feat bonus) + any other mods you would usually apply, damage. Now you need to add the extra damage for the crit so you will need to roll another d12 and add that result.

To what degree on this site am I responsible for knowing all of the rules of DnD for myself? I am basically familiar with them but do I have to know the ins and outs? Also, who do die rolls and character sheets work when playing by post?

Character sheets are under the Tool menu --> Character databases.
It is your responsibility to keep these up to date. The rolling policies are based on the DM preference, you can read how to roll dice on the board in the FAQ. -me

As for knowing the rules - it always helps to know the rules, but many people will help you out if you don't understand something. Please do make an effort to at least know the basics, though! As for knowing all of the rules of D&D... not even I can claim that.

The beauty of pbp is that the pace is generally slow enough for you to research stuff you aren't too clear on. It's amazing how quick you pick things up as you go along anyway. It's just knowing where to look as chances are, that question has already been asked somewhere. I use the official WoTC forums as a good reference when I come across something I am not sure about. If I don't find the answer there, I use my own judgement
