Don't be so hard on yourself, D2J. You posted three days ago -- under NOBODY'S standards is three days "nearly a week." Besides, I know you've got a hectic situation unfolding in another game.

On a personal note, I was confirmed to have pneumonia today, so... I'll be sitting at home for a while eating antibiotics like they were bar mix. No excuses for me!

Jazz... math may be my weakpoint, but I have to agree with ruff... 3 days is not 'nearly a week' I am pretty sure that *counts on fingers* six days is nearly a week

Don't push yourself crazy hard, just take your time and get caught up.

@ruffdove... Good lord, take care of yourself and get better sooner. That is horrible. I guess the upside is that you are home and can post and play all day???

Stannach and ruffdove, make a Perception and Survival check (if trained) as Ghir'was and Kova take a loop around the building.

I don't have access to a Ghir'was character sheet, but if his normal perception is +6, he should add his +2 bonus from Kova's spell.

But he had that drink before he left and shifters are notorious light-weights when it comes to holding their liquor. -6 penalty to Perception! Make a DC 12 acrobatics check to avoid staggering off the side of the tower, Stannach!

Can you imagine rolling for falling damage from a mile-high tower? It seems like 20d6 would be getting off easy. 528d6 seems more fitting.

Falling damage -- time to get my nerd on.

According to Gygax, D&D falling damage is NOT intended to be 1d6 per 10'. It's 1d6 per ten feet, per teen foot increments fallen. To account for acceleration.

So
10' fall = 1d6 (1 for 10')
20' fall = 3d6 (1 for 10' plus 2 for 20')
30' fall = 6d6 (1 for 10' plus 2 for 30' plus 3 for 30')

So for a mile fall... 528d6 is only what you would take for that last ten feet. 527d6 for the next to last 10 feet. 526d6 for the last ten feet before that. I'm pretty sure you'd need somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-2 million six sided dice.

However, Gygax wasn't a science whiz. If we factor in that you are actually at terminal velocity (no longer accelerating) after falling about 150 feet, you really should stop piling up damage for all the 10 foot increments after 150 feet. It becomes a lot more manageable -- just 678d6 for any fall 150 feet or beyond.

And now I'm wishing Kova saved his arcane bond spell for Featherfall...

Haha, this reminds me of a game-derailing discussion back in high school where a physics-minded friend argued that a shrinking cube/sphere of force wouldn't deal crushing damage so much as burning damage because of the increased atmospheric pressure and volume of gas being pressed into a much smaller space.

This same friend was also the type to make a called shot to kick everything in the balls. He had range.
