Kova YarabreeKova's brow furrowed as he pulled the book toward him and riffled through the blank pages. "I suppose we cannot rule out that he intended to fill these blank pages in the ruins. Most good scholars are meticulous note-takers. But it seems a heavy tome for what was supposed to be a short and focused foray. Perhaps there's more than meets the eye." He then sniffed at the pages and rubbed his finger on the paper, tasting the fingertip after,

Solomon Salt
He had been looking at the bastard orc a few times, wondering why he scuttled around the bar all time, looking sly and full of mischief. When the proprietor made it clear that he actually worked the bar, Solomon just crossed his arms before his barrel chest and shook his head in disbelief, Did you hire a bastard orc to pour the drinks? He blew out his cheeks and made his eyes wide. Obviously that didn't sit well with Solomon Salt.

He shoved his ale over at Arunn and a sad face, Can you take the poison out of this? Then, while he waited for Arunn's gods or magic to do something truly divine, he glanced at the empty journal, Hrmph.... We can at least go and have a look what he might have wanted to investigate. Else... Solomon's brows furrowed in concentration, we could try to find anyone close to the Provost... someone who would know of his investigations? To be honest he would rather the first than the latter, but he had a notion to trust that they would find common ground on the next move.

Ghir'WasGhir'Was Wandered around looking at as many titles as he could, he was fascinated by the amount of books. One could sit and read all the world's lore here, to know all that the races put to ink... or so he thought. Never had the Shifter seen such a collection in one place. Occasionally he would move back to the table to check in on the others, always with an eye on the door.

"The more the world changes, the more dwarves stay the same, right?" the host, Otho d'Ghallanda, responds to Solomon's perceptions of the orc-blooded bartender. "I bet you don't even know why you hate orcs," he continues, challenging Solomon to reconsider his racial prejudices. "And if you knew what they have sacrificed for us all, I bet you wouldn't," he ends with a smile as if it wasn't an admonishment at all, just a statement of fact. The drinks arrive and Bangral shows no sign of having poisoned anything. There is something peculiar about your drinks, though: they're exceptionally good. Almost too good.

You are given some privacy once a round of drinks, roast gorgon wrapped in A gargantuan lizard (is "dinosaur" an anachronism?) with a long, trunk-like neck and thick tail named because of its thunderous gait. Talenta, the land in Eastern Khorvaire where halflings originate, is home to many species of massive lizards.thunderherder bacon, flatbreads, and other sides are provided - seemingly on the house. The music continues, sometimes with conjured woodwinds, sometimes with one of the elves singing, sometimes upbeat, sometimes morose, but always impressive... and you feel the stress of the evening being pulled from your body. Khova has a long moment to study the book in the interim...

The entirety of the unusual book is completely blank, with not a mark of ink or stain on any of its sheets in spite of being dragged through the gutters, soaked with rain and blood. There are no marks of ownership or any sort of stamp aside from the silver-or-mithral-threaded sigil that Ky identifies as belonging to House Cannith, the dragonmarked cabal of humans who changed the face of Khorvaire (and the course of the Last War) with the advent of their magical siege engines, enchanted weaponry, and - of course - the warforged who attacked you earlier.

Solomon Salt
Solomon just kept a sour face at the man who sought to challenge him on his birth-given right to outright hate everything that just looked green-skinned. He also crammed the arms over his chest harder and internally battled a war against the ages of the past. Did he know?

It didn't matter. The bartender was a brat of deceit and vileness and it was only with utmost reluctance that the dwarf swallowed down the drink and then another.

Solomon tapped the book with a finger and looked at both Ky and Khova, What do you make of the empty journal - anywhere to go from here?

The shifter returned to the table with two books. He opened them both, seemingly reading each page of the open books before turning the pages to both. It looked as odd as it sounds.

"Hmmm Greensingers..." He poured over the pages as best he could. Fearing the moment when they told him to put them back. Still he was attentive to the others when a question came up. "In the field, messengers would send orders from the front. They would mask them, hide them, change the paper to look blank when it was not. Higher ups would know the secret. Reveal the words. Is this possible here?"

Kova YarabreeKova pored through the pages and examined the binding, deep in thought. "Oh, this is not an empty journal, Soloman. It is cleverly enchanted to shed any new marks made in it so as not to obscure what is really written." He pondered the book some more and in response to Ghir'was he said: "Yes, I believe that what we're looking at is essentially that. This secret text is nothing so crude as chemical trickery, either. This is magic. There will be some trigger to reveal what's written--possibly a word."

The halfling sighed and sipped his drink--just enough to be polite, he did not wish to cloud his judgment now. I suppose I should first try to eliminate the obvious, he thought. "Ja'Sharaat," he said in a low but firm voice. "Malleon... the Reaver... Taurac's Hammer... Bonal Geldham..." He pressed the silvery sigil on the cover and guessed: "Cannith? Warforged?" The halfling's mouth twisted in concentration and he

"Perhaps Kova Yarabree, it is something to do with Onatar. We are sent to find Onatar's temple that was lost, perhaps it requires something related to Onatar? These books contain many things, perhaps Provost Bonal Geldem meant to find such answers here?" It may have been Ghir'Was intention to find any reason to continue to look over the books in the room.

Ky RavsenKy did her best to not fidget, nor look dismayed or bored, though she failed at all three. A sigh, a frown, a shift in her seat and finally she just gave up and dropped her chin into her hands, elbows on the table. "If we get nothing... belatedly turning that over is going to be awkward. Sorry Kova..." A belated apology as she blushed slightly at her interruption and lack of anything actually useful to have. Breaking in to something, stealing something, even just stabbing something was far more along her skill lines then being seated at a table, staring at a journal.

Arrun Corliostor
Arrun took his seat at the table, intrigued by the curtain that obscured it. The material provided privacy by concealing those behind it and it provided security by allowing those behind it to view anyone that approached. While the colorful lights and brothel-like aspects of the establishment left Arrun uncomfortable, this protective seclusion more than made up for it.

When Solomon slid his drink over to Arrun, requesting a blessing against poison, Arrun said nothing and simply shook his head. While he could understand apprehension around someone with orc blood, he knew it would be bad business practice to poison patrons of your establishment.

Arrun took a hearty drink from his mug, the night’s events still leaving him on edge. The Provost’s journal was proving to be a conundrum. Its pages were blank but Kova was certain that information was magically concealed within the journal. Arcane magic was not Arrun’s forte, he could never quite tell when it was good and when it was evil, so he frequently assumed the latter, just to be safe. There was the possibility this magic had a religious component, they were after a religious relic. He searched his memories for any information about Onatar, the patron of the forge and to whom the ancient temple they sought was dedicated. Maybe the Provost used some word or item related to Onatar to hide the writings in his journal.

Arrun took another drink as he pondered their predicament, looking over at Ky curiously. She had been rather nimble with her fingers, stashing that journal away quite effectively. Could there have been something else on the Provost that she squirreled away as well. "Ky," Arrun said without trying to sound accusative, "did you happen to find anything else on Bonal that might be used as a key to the magic writing…a ring or amulet?"

Ky RavsenThe woman looked almost morose as she stared at Kova and the journal. The question posed by Arrun seemed to pass over her as if unheard a moment before she suddenly sat straight up and stared at him, mouth open in shock. What came out was not an indignant reaction to a potential accusation, but instead utter dismay. "I never... I... spires and shards, I never even thought about that, ah but why would I have, how was I supposed to know it looked blank. Oh, no, but the War forged, they only wanted the journal, not the journal and a ring, right?" It had devolved more into a string of concious thought as her brows furrowed and fingers laced while she attempted to replay the scene and the Provost in her mind.

As Kova examines the journal on a level that mystifies those of you less-trained in the arcane arts, the questions begin to pile up. Regrettably, all of them are questions with no apparent answers. The halfling arcanist tries a number of words of association as the others brainstorm for a similar solution, but the book does not respond to anyone's verbal, mystical, or physical proddings. On the bright side, the book does not reduce anyone to ashes for tampering with it, either.

There are several stacks of tomes, texts, and treatises staged about the room as if there to provide color or serve as coasters for your drinks. There is no rhyme or reason to their placement as topics range from dissertations on What's a Couatl?magical creatures which may or may not have existed in ages past, a collection of short horror stories penned by an overrated writer of underwhelming fiction, a children's book of silly poems about colorful fish, and a cookbook containing recipes for The ruler and last King of Galifar, whose children began the Last War upon his passing.King Jarot's favorite dishes. There are others, but you find that none of the Golden Horn's past patrons had the precognition to stash a relevant book here to help some unknown adventurers in the future crack a magically-bound Cannith journal.

The minutes drag by and ideas come and go. The music performed by the too-tall-too-thin elves in the adjacent serving room begins to wind down and the crowd begins to thin. You have enjoyed your fill of food and drink but neither do you find the answer to your queries at the bottoms of your cups or your plates, and you may be wondering if this mission is a wash without a living Bonal Geldem to lead you to your objective... when there is a polite cough from the entrance to your small-but-private dining room.

"Pardon me madame and sirs," Otho d'Ghallanda says, the most gracious and polite host that you've ever met. "I am hesitant to intrude, but there is someone who has requested an audience with you. She insists that she has urgent business to discuss regarding a common friend. A provost of Morgrave University?"

He quirks an eyebrow, letting the question linger as if to gauge your interest...

"I can turn her away, if you prefer to keep your privacy," he follows up, holding up a hand to show that you needn't worry about the security of the establishment or any threats within the walls of the Golden Horn...

Ghir'Was"We seek assistance concerning Provost Bonal Geldem, if this she has information about Provost Bonal Geldem then we should hear it. Ghir'Was has no objection." The shifter did not think there was anything to this. Seemed easy enough for anyone to come to his conclusion.

Ky RavsenThe sudden interruption as Ky stared between the journal and a slight, embarrassed look to Arrun now and again, caused the woman to suddenly sit up straight, pale slightly then reach out. She snatched the journal away from Kova without a word, the item secured back within her pouch as Ky looked toward the others as if to dare them to comment. "How the Spires does someone know we are here, is there a tracking ward on this thing? Damn it, shards n towers... No, you are right Ghir, but I don't like it, she better have a real good reason for being able to track us down here..." Ky's voice shifted from a hushed sound of wary concern to a muttered admission that at least it was only one woman AND that the possibility of more information was important, even if she was not about to leave her 'borrowed' clue on the table to be openly seen at the moment.

Ghir'Was"Agreed Ky Ravsen, She should have a good reason. If not Ghir'Was will hack her into small pieces, and feed her soul to the keeper of scores." He smiled and nodded his head. It was really up to the individual to decide what was more disconcerting... His eagerness to hack someone up and feed its soul to someone, or his feral smile.
