The Song of the Nine Heroes

The Song of the Nine Heroes

A storm announced the presence of a god,
One god who sought to claim all.
But even a deityís plans are not infallible,
Not when mere mortals have the final word.

From the death of ambition hope was born
And light, high up in the heavens,
Divine eyes looked upon the face of ogre, elf and man,
And decreed that this was indeed the Age of Mortals.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Aric Armitage by Noquarter19One from fertile lands of plains and woods,
Small rivers meandering the bountiful fields,
Giving birth to towns and villages and the promise of a brighter future.
A boy deprived of a motherís love,
A boy familiar with a fatherís blame and anger,
A boy looking to restore a legacy he had never known.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Blyne by MindsiegeThe next from a group of islands shrouded in legend,
The place where dragons grew and thrived and ruled,
Unable to find unless one was deemed worthy.
A creature that was born out of memory of the distant past,
The last of a race that had ceased to exist millennia ago,
One who searched for her identity in the face of others.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Devari Marossa by LazerOne from the wild jungles of the north,
Where the crooning of gulls mingled with the monkeysí cries,
And fortunes were won and lost through daring and cunning.
A girl who became a woman at a tender age,
A girl who became a mother when she lost her own,
A girl dreaming of wealth and joy and purpose.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Isandril Moonsilver by FCastorThe next from the ancient lands of elvenkind,
A forest kingdom shaped by will and a desire for perfection,
A land plagued by twisted dreams and the sound of ironshod feet.
A mage who learnt to live without magic,
A youth who learnt that even the young can die,
A scion of noble blood whose heritage was claimed by others.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Kaylen Nightstone by HayarOne from the heart of mountains and the deep wells of the earth,
Where only the light of fire exists to drive away the darkness,
In halls that are as grand as the history of those who made them.
A mother who lost her child and with it her heart,
A wife who saw no purpose in her manís embrace,
A daughter of stone who chose the vastness of the starry sky.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Pnoah by AndorThe next from a place of spinning gears and whistling steam,
Where nothing is taken for granted and all can somehow be improved,
A mountain whose halls will never grow still and silent.
A gnome as typical as any of his fellows,
A gnome as unique as the sum of his successes,
A gnome seeking to understand that which no gear can hope to affect.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Talia Dawnstar by Begon UgoOne from lands that had been blessed by wind and water, root and leaf,
Until fire breathed by a monstrous dragon turned all of these blessings to ash,
And seared the soul of the most resilient of beings, teaching them fear.
A child born of hope and despair, joy and sorrow,
A child who learnt the world by looking at the skies,
A child bearing the name of a star that may never again grace the heavens.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Tegan uth William by Tommyk382The next from the realm that broke the yoke of tyranny,
Cradle of the most renowned of knights,
A place of heroes and would-be heroes, armed in steel and faith in the gods.
A young man whose shoulders sagged from dutyís load,
A young man whose heart was weighed down by the demands of honor,
A young man who sought to spread the light shining bright within him.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.

Xihue by Black JimThe last from a land far to the east,
Beyond an ocean too vast to cross with any but the sturdiest ship,
A continent mentioned only in yellowed, ancient tomes.
A man who walks these realms for the first time,
Looking for the right words for a world not made for shepherds, sheep and goats,
A world in need of a different perspective that he might offer.

Others too sought to heal the world,
Their stories too many for me to tell,
But no lesser in scope or importance,
Nor in shaping what was to come.

As fate would have it,
Or as the gods decreed,
Their steps brought them to the land of sun and sand,
At the foothills of the mountains of the ogre kingdoms of old.

And here our tale begins.

Nine they were, under the three moons,
Children of a broken, bloodied world.
From every corner of Ansalon they came, even beyond,
Heroes in their desire to save a single soul.
