I finished my character's "Known Moves" today. It felt weird not listing in-game mechanics (such as add xd6 to this type of roll or the enemy removing xd6 from blank sort of roll) but I think those decisions are made by the DM during game... right?

It's baked into the rules. E.G. if it is a buff, you know it will ad 1d6 per success. You don't have to spend your word count on that.

I noticed in the rules thread, the mechanics of Buff effects are described slightly differently:

Buff - A Buff will affect your team. As a few examples, it may allow them to ignore a penalty from Wound, add a +1d to a future roll, or grant your allies a Bonus, depending on what the effect's intent is.

It might be worth clarifying which way it will work before the game starts. Just to avoid confusion.

You define the effect of the buff with the move when creating it. Example, it a bit that prevents damage, or one that adds bonus die to someone's rolls?

Thanks for that clarification.

Is this recap accurate?

If it's a damage ability, don't write any mechanics
If it's a healing ability, don't write any mechanics
If it's a utility ability, at least describe what it does
If it's a buff/debuff describe a mechanic define the mechanic and await approval

Oh, man, I was sick today and took the day off work. Thinking about this game inspired me to read Neuromancer again, which I hadn't done since summer of 1989. What a cool story!
