Use this thread for general chat and team planning. Also for dice rolls on the odd occasion they might pop up - Jaunt is diceless but some chargen options, trait abilities and random generation use dice for results, so they can be made here on preference.

Don't be shy to say hi here! I don't want this thread to be limited just to use by current players. If you're coming from the app thread, or just lurking along, you're welcome to pop in here as well.

Hi, y'all! I'm very happy about starring Aisha in this game, and I shout out a welcome to the other players and everybody in the audience.

I'll be getting Aisha situated over in the character thread in a spell, and I'm excited to be learning in what direction this particular character cast will evolve. To happy gaming!

I imagine the first step to get this show on the road will be collaborating about the shared backstory bits of our jaunter party? I think Aisha will be pretty easy to fit into any arrangement.

For now I'll take a second look at the accepted applications, it's been a while since I've read them.

I'm looking forward to see how the characters are gonna relate to one another, I'm particularly curious about Ibrah and Aisha, given the thorny history of the Dune setting with artificial intelligence.

I'm pretty much a novice in Dune lore, but it's always been a setting that I've considered incredibly inspired! I've got very little insight whether fremen had a lot of contact with AIs, I thought they were something that was part of galactic travel. Don't boo me if that's completely false.

Oh, there's something I've been meaning to elaborate on for a while. Technically Aisha's developers formally designated her AIsha VI (four) with that capital AI, even though she's actually only the third model in her series. In the narration I'll be referring to her as Aisha though, without the second letter capitalized. I think it looks better, and if your characters would ask Aisha about it, she'd agree.

Yes, they were, once upon a time, until people waged war against the "thinking machines", got rid of them and dogmatically outlawed them since then.

I’ll get my character content pasted up once I can get in front of a desktop. A tiny FYI is that I’m starting up my own game up as we speak (see my sig) so while I don’t expect that to affect my ability to interact here in any major way, it might slow my roll by a hair. And jbear is a player there.

And are the fremen aware of this historical tidbit? I can't remember how involved they were with off-world history.

Honestly I'm not aware of what the fremen specifically would know. We'll see what Ibrah thinks about this

I don't know how much Hotsu wants to guide us in the initial framing of the adventure, so I don't want to get too far out over my skis. That said, I think an interesting/important question to answer is: why do we have a jauntbox? Who was the first one to have it, and how did we gather around that person?

My backstory is to search for something pretty specific (a cure for his world's afflictions). So Toussaint (usually goes by Tou to people familiar with him) would hook up with a crew to the extent he thought it would advance that goal. Either the people doing the jaunting might have that knowledge, or are willing to work with him towards that goal. Not that the crew has to care about his goal, but they're at least willing to not get in his way, and be willing at times to let him drive some of the jaunt choices.

I imagine Tou's home-dimension Earth to be technologically behind our own, maybe like 1960s or 70s level of tech? So his world would certainly not have its own jauntboxes. If he found one, it would be totally accidental. More likely, one of y'all had it, and we met somehow. With a surface-level reading of your apps, it seems like either Ibrah or Aisha would have access to tech level that might generate a jauntbox. But (again, this is pure surface-level, correct me if I'm wrong) it looks to me like Agni is the other PC most driven to make jumps in order to achieve his goals. So maybe he stumbled upon a box somehow, and hooked in the others as he hopped?

I'm just pitching out thoughts here, happy to hear other suggestions.

Before anything else, I'll have to put a lid on the Dune speculations. jbear has informed me that unfortunately they won't be able to commit to the game right now. I'll be inviting another player in for the 4th slot shortly.

Agni started with a prototype jauntbox his mentor, a jaunter herself, left back home. It could very well be the current jauntbox, or a provisional one that simply kicked off his travels before failing.

As for Agni as the initial contributor of the jauntbox, I think that fits quite well. I've envisioned Aisha as a bit more of a tag-along in terms of jaunting, so while her reality could have possibly provided a jauntbox, Agni seems like the better explanation.
