I am sure there are law enforcement shuttle options available. Or could piggyback off of a diplomatic shuttle headed to the right planet, etc.

This table was meant to be a one-time cost to getting to Coruscant for the start of the game, and maybe for future use. Your starting credits total would reflect what you have left after traveling the galaxy, all except this ONE last time in getting to Coruscant.

Okay, thanks. If he's a Sector Ranger, either of the mooching options should work. If not, it'll depend on circumstances and the passenger ship option would probably be smart.
If you're willing to take a look at the homebrewed stats (main differences: brought Silhouette in line, changed hyperdrive to match lore, changed speed to match lore), I'd like to pick up the PB-950. If you aren't, I'll look at other options. I'm specifically interested in the PB-950 because it was used by the Sector Rangers, not for game mechanical reasons.
Either way, I'll probably be purchasing a ship. (Err... I did a dumbs. For whatever reason I was thinking in the hundreds of thousands for credits even though I knew [and recorded] that it was tens of thousands)
Thanks!

Update intro post again. Each player may start with a starfighter or transport of 150k or less.

You can spend your life savings on improving the ship as appropriate (and of course your gear too).

Thanks! I'll go for the PB-950 then, reduced to Sil 4 as you agreed since it's only 37 meters long.
I'm hoping somebody would like to join me, as a Force user if option 1 is applicable, as a deputy or crew member of some kind if option 2 is applicable.

Picked up the High-Output Ion Turbine for 5,300, the Hyperdrive Generator for 6,400, and the Autopilot Droid Brain for 6,000 (total 2 HP). That's 17,700 of his credits. The first two bring it more in line with where I think it should be mechanically (and so will be narrated as such), the autopilot droid brain is his addition. :)

Mirabelle Ch'tall
right-aligned image
Character Name: Mirabelle Ch'tall.
Species: Chadra Fan derivative.
Career: Engineer
Specialization(s): Shipwright, Advocate
Motivation: The Magnum Opus - All crafters deign to craft that one piece, the masterwork that is spoken of in awed whispers, writ down in historical texts, and is held as a pinnacle of its field. For Mirabelle, that would be a starship - Beautiful, stalwart, unstoppable.
Obligation: A Voice for the Voiceless (Oath) - Her family came from the lowest of low to the highest of highs, and that was by as much luck as it was skill. But not everyone is quite so lucky, whether it's crushing debt, a lack of any opportunity, or the machinations of slavers, bureaucrats, and corps. Where she sees oppression, she sees the chance to do right. The Ch'talls, herself particularly, have not forgotten where they came from.

Description: One might not particularly think of 'grace' or 'elegance' when it comes to rodents, but this Chadra Fan nonetheless manages to convey both. At 3'6, her movements are light and flowing, her gait sprightly, and her demeanor is nothing if it is not optimistic and friendly. Her fur is earthy-toned - A lush brown with a lighter underside - and is always well-kept and immaculately groomed (unless, of course, she's been working,) and her eyes are wide and sparkling, though some might find the black sclera to be slightly concerning. While many might find it hard to readily discern the average Chadra's gender from one and the next, there is little difficulty in defining Mirabelle's, owing to her particularly considerable, and occasionally troublesome, endowments. Utilitarian wear - Tough overalls or coveralls, thick wool shirts and heavy gloves, and the like - festooned with pockets and belts filled with various handy tools and miscellany is her usual wear when she is working, but outside of that she tends to be garbed in the latest fashionable and expensive garments as one might expect of any debutante.
Background: Born on on Verisces as the second oldest of six, Mirabelle - and by extension her immediate relatives - are not the standard Chadra Fan family: a peculiar off-shoot of the species (supposedly there was relations outside of the species in the ancestry, but whether this is a familial joke or not is undecided), and born right into affluent aristocracy and mechanical genius, there were a lot of expectations of the small rodent, most of which she happily met as she grew. While hers is certainly not 'old money' and some established and older aristocrats might look down on these 'upstarts,' there are plenty more delighted at the novelty. Noble Chadra? What ever will they think of next! It doesn't hurt that her grandfather established a most successful business catering to customized starship design for smaller luxury crafts with certain proprietary innovations purported to be of alien design, therefore providing a very practical (to the rich) service and earning a ridiculous amount of credits without hedging against any large-scale shipyards - Just enough to buy his family's way into high society.
Given that her family had once been enslaved by a notorious pirate whose claim to terror and fear was a repurposed alien vessel, and having grown up listening to stories about how her great grandfather had managed to bargain his mate and pups to freedom while sacrificing himself to destroy the ship from within, it goes without saying that an exceedingly strong sense of morality and honor is instilled within the Ch'tall line. Deceit, underhanded tactics, cruelty - All those negative things are anathema to this family. Slavery is something that outright infuriates her, whether it's literal or not; you don't need to have a shock collar on your neck to be so grossly indebted to an amoral corporate entity that you will never be able to advance in life, for instance.
When she was younger, Mirabelle wasn't certain what to focus her studies on - Personal laser weaponry? Ship drives? Ablative armors or kinetic shielding? AI design? Planetary defense systems? Not until she observed a Dreadnaught-class vessel running maneuvers through a station's window, watched the massive beauty launch a salvo of munitions in test, gracefully tear through space at speed flanked by smaller corvettes and fights, then blip out of the system that the muse struck. That was when she decided: Starships. All of them. Working on them, crafting new ones, dredging up a forgotten blueprint or salvaging an ancient wreck that inspires whole new avenues of creation - These are a few of her favorite things! Her father would have rather she stayed after she finished her classes, but there's no better teacher than practical experience, and he had to respect her independence (most of his children had already done similar.) Besides, you can't discover a long-lost ancient starship at home.

Credits roll!

Is it a hard system to pick up? Are there any not-ugly mouse/rat races? Is there a free source book I could peek over somewhere?
It's not that hard to pick up. There is a learning curve, especially if you're used to different systems, but I've guided a few players entirely new to RPGs through it and they picked it up with no problem.
As for mouse/rat races, there are Jawas. They technically are ugly, but you can't tell under the hood.
Then there are the Chadra-Fan, which I find adorable and amusing. Little bit bat-like, but still rodents.

Yeah, I saw the Chadra-Fan, and Ranats and I think one other one, and they do have the ugly-cute thing bats have going on, hahah. But as my avatar might suggest, I was hoping for a bit more anthro' like, hee! I have a little mouse gal that should translate well enough over to the SW universe (I th-ink?) that I've used as a mechanic/face-person/potential heavy weapons specialist sort.

Gar Waldin is, for the most part, complete. I might tweak some things later but I'm generally happy with what I've got.

I think you should be able to roll again in the test thread. The first post in that thread says your older posts will be deleted until you are down to five total again.

@Verdant Glitter

Be very glad this isn't the Revised D20 version of the rules that we are using. Chadra-Fan would literally die from loneliness in that version. I used that feature to make a fun Jedi NPC though. Since he could always feel connected to something greater, he never felt lonely and could actually function in isolation.

Superstrength: I have a few questions about this game to clarify the setting and expectations in my own head.
1) A typical Star Wars story is mostly centered around fast-paced action and conflict. This seems like the opposite. Can you talk briefly about how you see this story playing out?

2) Age of Rebellion is centered around the war between the Empire and the Alliance. So, the careers in that book mostly lend themselves to that conflict. Is there anything comparable in the time frame that you're talking about? Would being a Republic soldier or agent be an appropriate equivalent?

3) Are our characters going to have any official reason to be investigating things? Can they be government agents? Or are we just a bunch of civilians poking our noses in where they don't belong?

4) I don't have a lot of experience playing this game. I really don't have any kind of perspective on what a character with 400 bonus xp looks like. How long does it take to earn 400 xp? Would a character with a 10-year career be appropriate? Are we considered the top experts in our field? Should no character be under 30 years old? 40? I personally play young characters because they seem like the kind of people that would more likely take risks and be adventurous. But then... this isn't an "adventure" per se; it's a mystery.

1) Encounters won't really be any different. There will be antagonists, combat, and skill checks. There aren't many galaxy-wide events going on at 100 BBY, so there won't be any distractions from campaign events.

2) Are there any specific careers or specializations you were thinking about that reference the Empire directly? I don't recall there being any talents that only function when attacking stormtroopers, etc. The career can still function, just the organizations would be different. The Republic would be a solid choice for a soldier. Else, the soldier could be from their home planet.

3) I would come up with reasons for you in the intro thread for your character, based on your background. Look at Lazer's application, he has a pretty good generic reason for me to build off. It should give you an idea of how to build up a path for your character. I am leaving specific campaign details ambiguous so as not to influence people's creation process for their characters.

4) So, everything in a talent tree should cost 275 XP (the last time I added up the tree my own character used). That means the character is pretty much established in that career/spec and has been around the galaxy doing their thing for quite a while. The average XP granted for sessions of IRL play are recommended to be 15 to 25 XP based on the speed of play the GM wants. So for a slow game, the character would have been played for approximately 26 sessions and earned 15 XP each time. 16 sessions for 25 XP reward.

A complete tree is 300 XP. 4*5+4*10+4*15+4*20+4*25=20+40+60+80+100=300

@Girlplay, the specs are just collections of stats. It's perfectly possible to play a character disconnected from the suggested fluff around the spec, you'd just have to come up with an alternative explanation for how the character got those skills. I tend to completely disregard the spec's name when building a character, instead picking the selection of stats that best matches the narrative I have in mind for the character. (Of course, a GM may be more particular)
As far as I recall, there are no talents that specifically line up with the fluff surrounding the time or the organization.

As for the XP, it depends what you spend it on. 400 EXP is a fairly advanced PC, as or more advanced than even many high-tier Nemeses. Generally with high-XP starting characters, they are either perceived to have developed their skills over time at a reduced XP rate (Everything was normal until THIS happened) or to have been adventuring at the same "rate" prior to the beginning of the game (*sip* Just another day at the office).
At a "high-XP" rate of 15-25 (20) XP per session, that's 20 sessions. At a reduced XP rate of 5 XP, that's 80 sessions. The basic question in this case is whether your character is getting any change of pace in the new circumstances.
For what it's worth, my character is 40. I figured he'd be sort of in the middle as to the historical XP rate, fluctuating between high-XP type adventures and the mundane, but all fairly active as a Sector Ranger and then SEO or local law enforcement if that story becomes applicable.
"Top expert" depends on what field you're in and what the competition looks like. It's possible that you're in such an elite organization that even with 400 EXP, you're at the bottom rung. My character is probably a few steps above average in his field, but not quite top-of-the-line.

A lot of my experience comes from GMing this system. Hope this helps. :)

I've finished spending XP, and have spent almost 10k in credits.
Don't worry, my starting specialization is Hermit.

Heh. I heard that.

I'm still working on my application, not wanting to get in a hurry so I can put down what I think fits.
