Why not make a goblin application?

Haven’t read any of the Eberron books. Now I have to download them down to my nook. A lot of reading ahead

because I couldnt decide which to make, and more often than not when I go SUPER in on a character I tend to not get chosen.

A bugbear, a Hobgoblin, or a Goblin, soooo many ideas, and so much knowledge on the setting it was really difficult to pick. Glad I'm seeing Muut, and Atcha being talked about though.

Playing a displaced Silent Knife, or Silent Wolf would be nice though, Ive thought about remaking the application

Honestly such a great light shed on the goblin culture, and ways more than the standard faerun grungy no culture goblinoids. How rich and passionate they are about their heritage, and customs really shows in those books. Plus being able to throw goblin phrases, and words around would be awesome. The Sharat Kesh were one of my favorite aspects of the books.

after I saw your application I was debating DMing you and seeing if you wanted to make a joined application for a pair of Darguuni goblins.

Name: Adrasteia

Race: Warforged

Alignment: Neutral Good

Class: Monk (aiming for Ascendant Dragon Monk on level 3)

Appearance: Most warforged take the general shape of humans, only made of steel and wood. Adrasteia, however, has instead a head in the shape of a dragon, a lither, more serpentine body, hands that end in claws, giving off the general impression of a cross between a dragon and a human. Eyes that glow with a cold light give off a stark impression. Bronze scales cover most of her body, and etched in certain parts are prayers in Draconic. She has a low metallic voice that tends to reverberate.

Background: Like most Warforged, Adrasteia was created by House Cannith, but she was unfortunate--- or fortunate--- to not have participated in the Last War, as she was created during the tail end of it: a prototype that ended up not getting sold, and in some ways also incomplete. The goal in her creation was to emulate the dragons of legend, if in a smaller form, but as it stood, she was only draconic in features, and not in capability... and then she was saddled with freedom before that could be adequately changed.

As with most of her kind, Adrasteia was uncertain what to do without orders, but having not gotten used to the strict structure of military hierarchy, she adapted more swiftly to it. She found herself a simple goal: to complete herself, to make herself more... draconic. She explored various places, looking for ways to emulate the magical creatures whose visage she was based on, and soon learned of a way to gain such abilities from martial arts.

Her quest is still far from complete, and she needs resources to fund it, and so she found herself joining the Deathsgate Guild for an easy way to earn money.

The Player: I'm... a neurotic mess who likes to write. I favor roleplay over rollplay, so in recent years I've been drawn to more narrative-based game systems, but I was thinking of giving 5e a chance again.

I actually don't know much about Eberron, but I like the Kalashtar and the Warforged XD

Notes:

Like I said, I don't know much about Eberron, so if Adrasteia's background doesn't jive that well, please tell me how it could be improve. I'm actually not sure what her mechanical background would be... Sage doesn't quite fit... Archaeologist? And I guess the Monk subclass I'm aiming for is in Fizban's, which isn't exactly one of your preferred material...

I think I'm going to have to enlist the help of someone who knows Eberron better than I do to finish Gwen. I don't think she's ready yet, and I'm not sure she fits Eberron (or the Deathgaters). ><

Name: Trash

Race: Maybe he's Goblin-blooded? There's definitely something weird in there.Variant Human

Alignment: Neutral Good - Trash is generally a nice kid and works well with others. He'd hesitate to take a job that hurt genuinely good people but from his experiences... there aren't that many "Good" people in Sharn.

Class: Tasha's VersionRanger

Appearance: He's young, barely a day over fifteen years if even that old. Trash is thin, pale, and gangly. He is shorter than average and clean-shaven. His face is broad without much chin. Large coal-black eyes are spaced a little too broadly apart. Those eyes shine with predatory alertness, which many find unsettling. Trash's long dark hair hangs in thin strings and he runs his fingers through it anytime he has to think longer than a moment. His clothes are cut more for stealth and maneuverability than protection. A collection of salvaged leather is stitched into a light armor. A pair of worn rope sandals are complemented by a used, though loved, longbow. Some have said that he looks as much like a praying mantis as he does a man.

Background: Urchin

Trash was abandoned as a baby, in the alley garbage behind a nameless Firelight pub in Lower Menthis. He was found when a bar patron suddenly needed to exorcise the contents of a bottle of spirits. His earliest memories are unpleasant ones of the orphanage and its occupants. Why is it so common for the ones who take in abandoned children to seem to hate kids? A little practice at night with a bent hairpin and it wasn't long before he was able to let himself out. As soon as he could, he chose to take his chances in the alleyways and abandoned spaces. The city was his Forest and he became its Ranger.

Trash was aware of the war, but was still a child when the Mourning happened. The biggest impact the war had on his life was the constant influx of new faces into the lower districts. That fallen tower was a pretty big deal, too... but it's not like he was in it or under it. He did do his best to be helpful, though. For only a bit of goodwill, he'd tell the new faces which slums to avoid, who to pay for protection, and which areas still had a little room. For a few coppers, he'd help reunite refugee families. One time, he handled a group of wannabe slavers that had been 'poaching' Talentan halflings. It wasn't a glorious fight, so much as a stealthy slog of throat-slitting and silent arrows. If the war had continued for just a few more years, Trash would have been a lauded soldier or wilderness scout.

Trash is well aware that people find him off-putting and tries to make himself as useful and unintrusive as possible. If they don't notice him, then they can't hate him. If he saves the day, then maybe he'll find a moment of acceptance. The young urchin just wants to follow the orders of someone who deserves to give them, and in so doing... bring a little more good into the world. Despite the initial shyness, he can be a truly loyal friend and will open up quickly to those who are nice to him. Do you know who doesn't care if you're offputting and weird looking? The Deathsgate Guild of Adventurers, that's who!

The Player: Hullo, I'm Guy! My favorite monsters have always been Insectoids, giant or otherwise. Somewhere in your head, you might realize that goblins have mothers... but you will *never* hesitate to kill a Wasp. Ever. Giant spider mother with thousands of tiny spiderlings crawling on her back? Burn that dungeon to the ground! I also recognize a lot of the aberrations as being very specifically DnD flavored, and I remember liking the Daelkyr lore.

I honestly haven't had a lot of interaction with Eberron since its early days. I do have some fond memories, though. The original book had a starter adventure in the back and one of the features was underground ruins with a massive door made out of Adamantium. I assume it was made out of the stuff to make the players find some way around it, etc... but after the DM read that bit aloud, our rogue took one look at it and said, "Well... that's obviously coming home with us." We cleared the area and finished the mission at hand before returning to make a base camp at The Door. The ruins weren't Adamantium, after all... so we dug the door out of the wall. Hirelings were brought in. Pulleys were used. The funds were used to create and register our own mercenary company, complete with permanent residence in one of the districts and our own airship. The adventures of the Black Sheep Company ran for at least a year... great memories.

There are a few points in your application that touch upon major themes in the setting, so I'll start there and - when I get time - I can provide more in private, later. (I'd typically secret this sort of thing, but I think it's an opportunity to expose a few things to others that might be new to the setting!)

The Gods - Eberron takes an agnostic stance on the deities. They may or may not exist. Churches and temples aren't even the first places that people go for healing. And those that *can* heal, there's a possibility that it's manifested by the sheer faith of the individual and there is no connection to any outside divinity. But there's also the possibility that the gods are all valiant dragons that ascended to godhood and now operate as archetypical divine beings. So who knows!? There are other "powers" like the Silver Flame or the Undying Court which wield undeniable power on par with traditional DnD gods, but even they are special cases.

Note: You may say, "But MG, the Faiths of Eberron says..." and I'd respond: Keith Baker (the setting creator) had nothing to do with that sourcebook and it shows. It misses so many themes integral to the setting and treats everything as if it were the Forgotten Realms. It's the only Eberron sourcebook I 100% recommend skipping if you're interested in the setting.

The Permanence of Death - 99.9% of the time in Eberron, dead is dead. There is no promise of an afterlife. All souls go to Dolurrh where they slowly fade to oblivion. This feeds the first theme quite a bit, as all prayers are for immediate benefit and there are no guarantees for rewards in some eternal hereafter. That said, a reincarnation in the Mourning wouldn't be the weirdest thing that happened that day.

As far as the kalashtar-former-human bit: 50k foot view here...Basically, kalashtar are dual-minded, psionic, refugee weirdos from another continent. They have connections to lives that aren't their own, their own alien culture, and an inescapable war that plays itself out in the physical as well as the realm of nightmares. They are hunted as a result of this war. For someone to just wake up one day as a kalashtar, there's no connection to any of that.

I've run that adventure (The Forgotten Forge!) here on the site many, many times, so I know exactly what door you're talking about. If your group figured out a way to pull a set of adamantium doors through a sewer portal, they earned that money.

Also, the Daelkyr are so alien and unequivocally evil, but I can still think of scenarios where PCs may unwittingly (or be forced to) perform some task for them in exchange for a boon (or their lives). You're right about the insects, though. No shades of gray. Wasps must not be permitted to live.

I'll provide more input on various things as I get time to do so! Forgive me if I don't respond to everything here, but if anyone has a specific question, please ask and I'll get to it when I can.
