Not fun-sized this time!
left-aligned image

Name: Hannah Weiss
Age: 21
Archetype: Fun with portals! Primarily a support role.
Mutant Powers: Hannah possesses the mutant ability to No yarn required! And none of that creepy Event Horizon stuff either.fold space. This allows her to open one portal near her along with another portal in a place she can either see or knows, at which point anyone or anything can use them to instantly travel from point A to point B, or vice versa. These portals appear as a free-floating circular hole in space surrounded by a sapphire blue glow that crackles slightly. No, she can't make one of them orange. Stop asking.
Nationality: Israeli

Character
  • name: Alfred Forbes
  • Age: 25
  • Archetype: the Batman
  • Mutant Powers: Alfred is super intelligent. Able to pick up and learn new things quickly. Especially when it comes to technology.
  • Nationality: Scottish.
  • Physical Description: Alfred looks like the picture. What the picture doesn't show, is that he's tall, and slightly muscular. He never used to really care about how he dressed, but Isabella sorted him out. Now he clothes himself nicely for her.
His Camazotz batsuit was adapted from a cosmetic design by Isabella, intended for an Aztec theme Halloween costume. She never got around to designing one for herself.
Now he has redesigned it. "Camazotz" looks like a demonic bat and human hybrid monster. Black robed and furred, with ebony horns upon his bat head, and eyes as red as fire. Bat wings sprout out the back, as Alfred finally got around to making his device work. Also included a voice changer so he can make loud bat sounds. This batsuit is to both troll and mock the cultists.
His flight is noticeable via two giant bat wings flapping, which creates some noise.
  • Disposition/Personality: Alfred is a little socially awkward. He's never happier when he's tinkering away in his workshop, or with his wife and son.
When in business he can be a tad hard, but he is a fair man. Alfred had relied on his wife to handle the human side of the business of A & I incorporated.
Currently heartbroken and angry over the murder of his wife Isabella and kidnap of son Andrew
  • Complications:
Rescue of his son. This is his prime motivation. Alfred could probably live without avenging his wife, as he got Andrew back.

Avenge his wife. His wife was brutally slain. The murderer remains at large. Alfred isn't sure what he's going to do if he catches up to them.

Nemesis. Alfred is an over-achiever in that he already has a powerful enemy.

Suspect. Alfred is a suspect in his wife's murder.

Socially awkward. Alfred is not good with people in normal social situations. Some of the things he says and/or tone he says them in, can be misinterpreted.
  • Background:
"If they want a bloody Aztec death bat god, I'll give them a bloody Aztec death bat god."
Alfred grew up in Scotland's capital, Edinburgh, to loving parents. Clever but a tad socially awkward, he excelled at schoolwork but not so hot at making friends. Especially at high school where his slightly pudgy frame was a source of mockery
His life was to change when he read about the ancient Greeks, and how they believed you needed to exercise both body and mind. His dad was surprised by Alfred asking for a gym membership. The boy persevered with both gym training and schoolwork. His confidence improved as did his grades. Alfred still found people slightly difficult to speak to.
University beckoned, and he moved into a dorm. Taking an mechanical engineering course, as that's where the smart, but not yet super smart boy's talent lay. He enjoyed the course, especially the design projects. Alfred had to literally dragged away from the library or gym, when he wasn't in class. Even after all this time, he was still socially awkward.
This changed when he met Isabella, a beautiful international student from Mexico. For the first time he met someone he could just talk to. She just got him in a way nobody else could. Becoming inseparable, nobody was surprised when they married a couple of years later.
After graduation they set up a small firm. AI incorporated, a tech company that offered and designed tech solutions. Whatever the client needed, they created. Isabella acted as the face of the company, and the contact point. Alfred was the creative genius. It worked well and the money trickled in. Best of all Isabella was pregnant with their first child!
He couldn't be happier. A beautiful wife, a great son, interesting work, money in the bank, and his own workshop to tinker in.
Sadly this is an origin story. No one is allowed to be genuinely happy for long. Two years after Andrew's birth, Alfred was returning home, when a woman called out in Mexican dialect of Spanish. She sounded in distress, so Alfred tried to see if he could help her. Once he had been lured into a secluded area, that is when he was ambushed by several Mexicans, and brutally beaten so badly they thought he was dead. As they carried his body, Alfred overheard some things. They were a death cult dedicated to the bat death god Camazotz, and believed Andrew would herald his coming.
They buried him alive. The only thing keeping him alive was the thought of his wife and son. He forced himself to dig his way out the grave. Fists bleeding and raw, Alfred finally broke out.
Ran back into civilisation. Until he saw Isabella's photo on a tv screen in a store. Horrified Alfred realises he's too late. His wife is dead, his son is missing, and he is the prime suspect. The cult's plan was to kill him and make him a patsy for both crimes.
He decides his best option to let the cult believe he's dead, to let them enjoy a false sense of security. If they wanted a bat death god, he would become a bat.
Alfred's first case came from following some leads that lead to a bank. He hadn't yet assumed the Camazotz identity, and didn't have his Camazotz batsuit ready. Just as a masked vigilante, he broke into the bank manager's office, got to her desk which was festooned with pictures of friends and family. Alfred was more interested in her computer however. For somebody of his intellect and skills, hacking into it was laughably easy. Oddly the cctv system was down, so Alfred turned it back on to see what he was dealing with.
It looked like eco-terrorists with a dash of anticapitalism. They had taken hostages, and were also arming a bomb in the vault. Alfred turned off the cctv system, so he wouldn't be caught on it, and set off the silent alarm to the police.
Knowing he wouldn't have much time, Alfred stealthily picks off the terrorists guarding the hostages first. Hostages aren't able to go anywhere as the bank's locked down.
Alfred proceeds to the vault, where he is ambushed by the remainder of the terrorists. Superior fighting skill wins Alfred the day here. The leader's mask came off in the fight, and Alfred's eidetic memory recalls the face in multiple photos on the manager's desk. This wasn't terrorism but a cover up of theft from the bank by it's own manager! Bomb is promptly disarmed.
Terrorists defeated, Alfred makes sure the hostages know what a scumbag their boss is, and to make sure they hold her for the police. The hero makes his stealthy departure.
The next day papers run a/story on a mysterious vigilante who saved hostages and defused a bomb, foiling a plot by a bank manager and her husband, to great acclaim!
  • Roleplaying Sample:
Alfred gazed at the materials before him. He's working in his workshop, on a private project. Trying to create a personal flight device. Nothing was working. He could not make it work at all. This was the kind of the challenge he loved. Taking a sip of his favourite soft drink, Irn Bru, he was considering a quick break
Suddenly there was brief pain in his head. He could see equations, possibilities, so much he was briefly overwhelmed. Focusing on the device at hand, Alfred could see where he had been going wrong. Constructing a winged device, inspiration left him. Completing the passion project, Alfred was left with a lingering feeling he had forgotten something, but his confidence in his ability dispelled his doubt.
Later, atop a small hill, he is with Isabella, to field test his design. She looks nervous, but she has faith in her husband. Alfred runs and jumps off the hill. For a moment he flies and is the god emperor of the world. Then he plummets to the ground. They had selected a small hill to fly off, so Alfred's only injuries were bruised ribs and his pride.
Isabella was by his side in an instant. "Alfred! Are you okay?"
"I'll be fine. I accounted for my weight but forgot to account for the weight of the device. I'm a stupid, stupid chimp." Alfred said, annoyed at himself.
His wife smiled at him. "I have some news that may cheer you up. I was hoping this would be a double celebration, but I'm pregnant!"
"That's nice dear." Alfred said absentmindedly, thinking how to fix his failure, before his brain engaged survival mode. "Isabella you're pregnant? I'm going to be a dad? That's completely and utterly awesome! I'm going to be a dad!" Alfred shouted out, device and pain forgotten.

Well I feel compelled to complete the sequence of ages, so 22 it is! I hope I'm not [img]stepping on Cassie's toes too much with this physics-based concept. Michael's no psychic.
Application
right-aligned image
Secret Identity
Name: Michael ChuaHero Name: VectorAge: 22

Archetype: Pusher/Reflector.

Mutant Powers: Vector has the potential to use opaque force projections that he calls, hey you guessed it, Vectors to help allies and harm foes. They are manifestations of his imagination and a primary aspect of physics: forces can be broken down to direction and magnitude. Once he closes his eyes, he can direct this force to follow the vivid mental model in his head of walls, people and objects to bounce their way into hitting enemies or deflecting attacks.

The arrows are perfectly white with almost cartoonish black outlines that zig zag. They carry very real Joules behind them, able to push enemies quite a distance. In guilty moments of errant thought, he figures that he wouldbe able to apply Vectors under himself to fly. Hypothetically, an observer would see a continuous stream of six-inch wide, two-dimensional arrows shooting back behind him. One substantial side effect is that he gets buffeted about ten feet the opposite direction whenever he pushes something. He felt it when he first pushed the dean's car and knows that it will be a heck of a thing to wrangle. Nationality: Singaporean. Out of pronounced Tam-pih-kneesTampines, Singapore.

Physical Description: Michael is of lean build with a slightly round face. His momama is always trying to give him tea and snacks to help him study at home. Due to this and his love for food, some might say that he is 'skinny fat'. He's tried to work out and play sports, he's just never able to put on any muscle. His calm expressions and sluggish eye movements belies his lavish internal world of thought. He makes as little eye contact as he can manage. Nothing disrespectful, though. Almost always wearing his horn-rimmed glasses, he thinks his cheeks and nose look out of proportion without them. His hair and grooming are squared away, without being too fancy.

For clothing, he tends to pick relaxed fitting street wear or tropical shirts. High-top sneakers, flip flops. It fits in with his generation and is very easy on the eyes.

Disposition/Personality: He likes effortless. Whatever lets him get his other duties done efficiently and return to mental tasks or strolling down memory lane. He cherishes his positive memories with friends and loved ones like no one else. They say that of the 5-10% of children who exhibit an eidetic memory, virtually no adults keep it. That makes him the exception.

Michael values his individuality and freedom. Anything that threatens that or his family will get the rare rise out of him. His father loved cinema, architecture and anything that made Singapore "Modern". He was a nut about being "the city of the future." Michael has a special place in his heart for this concept too. So he values art, cuisine, anything that makes a culture intriguing. He is good at making friends, but hesitant to expose himself to risk. So he will placate and throw out easy gestures and compliments, while keeping his powerful, genuine thoughts largely to himself.

There are a few friends that he can relax with and express himself in comfort, not worried about their reaction to his "freakish memory". They love it, in fact, quizzing him and forming elaborate in-jokes as a group on their frequent visits to Singaporean malls and Tampines Central Park. His favorite place to visit, opened in the 1980s with its frosted glass and giant fruit décor.

Complications: Motivation - Honor. Michael may not be in construction like his father, but he does want to make him proud by being the best student, physicist (and hero??) he can be.
Memory. He recalls memories so vividly that it's like he's reliving them and haunted by mistakes. His powers mostly require him to close his eyes to focus and he can be distracted or caught unaware by this.
Intellect. The best way to solve a problem is with your mind. He will shy away from other solutions if there's any way he can. But contests of intellect like trivia, Chess, Poker or Mahjong draw his attention like a moth to a flame.
Blend In. Michael still associates being unique with scrutiny and danger. He may not lay as low as his parents would like, but even in costume he can be unassuming or complacent. "Not worth leh." Not worth getting noticed or stressed out over.
Inadequacy. Paranoid that without his eidetic memory, he's really not that smart. If he gets into a lauded position, imposter syndrome is sure to follow.
Frailty. As an otherwise normal human, he relies entirely on Vectors to defend himself, rather than the dodging and blocking of other heroes.

Background: Michael was a grade ahead in school from a very young age. This made the other kids jealous. His insane memory turned tests and winning academic awards into a breeze. That made them mad. And when it became popular to slanderously call anyone different a mutant, Michael was first on the chopping block at his school. This occasionally violent bullying ingrained a mindset to never stand out. That meant a very awkward path through secondary school, to excel in all the ways his father demanded and yet not to get castigated by classmates, or even skeptical teachers. After a brief and dramatic faltering in Physics, Michael did nothing but accelerate his learning.

Once he got accepted to the Singapore Institute of Technology, classmates no longer cared that he was younger or that he was doing extra majors like it was going out of style. This coincided with the passing of his father, the owner of a construction company that got in on the ground level with helping Singapore develop after their independence in 1965 (especially in their technology boom in the 80s). Unfortunately his father was the type to insist on not asking others to do something he wouldn't himself; be it site surveys, pouring concrete or installing drywall. They said it was too much asbestos exposure that caused the cancer.

This hit Michael hard. He had insanely vivid memories to relive, so in many ways he felt that his father was still there. Encouraging him, taking him to the movies and museums with his sister and brother. Only others didn't feel the same way and that confused him. He committed himself to learning faster, doing more. He knew he was going to become a renowned physicist and work at a Particle Accelerator. Once his dad accepted that Michael wouldn't be an architect, he enthused with him about engineering and theoretical physics without dropping a beat.

Michael spent a good bit of this time moping in Tampines Central Park. He'd sit on the watermelon slide so long that young kids would try to kick him out. How could he not? His father built it with his own hands. Michael has returned to his studies at almost full pace, but there's still something missing from his life. And his scholarship is hanging by a thread after all his time away from classes. His graduation is delayed by two full trimesters due to class availability to boot.

In addition to this, while his father had ample savings, Michael's mother insisted they do everything they could to save him. This wiped out their savings and the family is weighing whether they sell their stake in the company or the estate in order to remain solvent. It Unbeknownst to Michael, Henry had gambled his portion of the estate trying to win enough to fix their situation, but of course it's only been made worse.sounds like his brother Henry is in trouble with a growing crime syndicate that built their power on gambling and drug smuggling. Clearly Michael does not want them to lose everything his father had worked for and so he is looking for something, anything he can do to raise money and help. Be it some strange government project or a research grant through his school that could bring him accolades and financial acclaim. On top of that, he wants to get to the bottom of his brother's troubles but Henry has gone into hiding, only giving his mother a cryptic message: "See the monkey guide under Possibly referencing a massive statue near the Batu Caves North of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia?
the eye of Lord Murugan."

Roleplaying Sample:

Character Build: Here is an in progress build. I'm happy to bend on anything but I really want to use homing. I see it as core to the build and visuals, so I want to make sure that will be okay. If I miss the first roll, the Vector bounces back and tries to hit again the next round. The description is quite clear you can do other things, including attack again and the rerolls will still happen in subsequent rounds. If I use multi-attack on top of this to try and hit say, three targets, each of them should home with a -3 on each. I don't consider that super complicated and it's the main ability. I plan to track how many Vectors are out at once and keep my posts precise.

I shifted a little power out of the accuracy, defenses and powers to give him more room within the PL to grow

Initial feedback on what has been submitted thus far. Do not feel the press of time, you still have loads

Heads upEveryone:
  • Please reply to post that you can keep up with a daily posting game as I will only be considering those applicants that can make that requirement.
  • Include a roll of an embedded D10 roll (as listed in the ad) in a post replying to this, the result of which will determine the curveball that awaits each of you that are selected.
  • If you haven't Seagal'd, If you have no clue what I am talking about, check out the ad again, there's directions contained withinnow is the time to embrace this.

Mitsubachi,
  • Strong application and writing sample, I like Sofiya and really get a sense of the character outside of her powers.
  • Just as a heads up, actual earth politics/events are not really going to be part of this game, except in a highly fictionalized way. With the constant stream of horrors being reported in the Ukraine daily we won't be including anything connected with the current conflict in this game (as some escape from the darker aspects of our current reality would be scrumptious), but as background information/motivation I am fine with it as expansionist tendencies of neighbours is a tale as old as time.
  • You've seen your powers a single time, the jump, after that you wouldn't be able to replicate them at this time.
  • How are your powers noticeable when you use them?
  • How do you see yourself allocating your points at PL 10? Mainly focused on how you see your powers changing over time.

GleefulNihilism,
  • Awaiting confirmation of daily posting before review.

JaredSyn,
  • In a world of brooding superheroes a "friendly and outgoing" hero is a breath of fresh air.
  • You haven't been to North America, but if you'd like to have been accepted to a school there, or just arrived that is fine.
  • Solid app.
  • You've seen your powers a single time, catching Thomas, after that you wouldn't be able to replicate them at this time.
  • How do you see yourself allocating your points at PL 10? Mainly focused on how you see your powers changing over time.
  • How are your powers noticeable when you use them?

PalladiaMors,
  • Thank you for Seagaling, appreciate the attention to detail.
  • Upbeat whilst listening to a sick beat, I dig it.
  • I am liking Hannah.
  • How do you see yourself allocating your points at PL 10? Mainly focused on how you see your powers changing over time.
  • How are your powers noticeable when you use them?

Acathala,
  • Batman is a virtual unknown at this point, so please replace the "Bat-branding" Complication.
  • How do you see yourself allocating your points at PL 10? Mainly focused on how you see your powers changing over time.
  • How are your powers noticeable when you use them?

ArcZero,
  • Thank you for Seagaling, appreciate the attention to detail.
  • Appreciate using words that ground in the language whilst giving translations, really brings the character home.
  • Love the awkward show of powers. The dean's car probably had it coming.
  • Appreciate the time and attention you've put into your app.
  • Please cover the low Strength and Fighting with a Complication rather than negative Ability scores.
  • Trying to wrap my head around the powers. For simplicity, you're projecting solidified light? I am fine with you embracing your inner Darkseid with your homing beams.
  • Flaws: Let's simplify things the blindness thing, eliminate the "Limited to When eyes are closed" from your powers, call it a Complication, then no need for Immunities or Senses to cover it. Just have all of the roleplaying fun of that, without us having to adjudicate the ramifications of eyes being closed. Eliminate Noticeable, your powers are obvious by default and that Flaw is for Continuous or Permanent effects. Limited to Increasing DC, please explain that. Drop the Quirk from 3 to 1 please for the push back. Linking Move Object to Damage means you're damaging anything you try to move (e.g. decapitating the innocent orphans trying to push them out of the way of the train). Your flight would be a good place for a Limited Flaw in only being able to fly maybe 100' above something solid to push off of, since your vectors have to push on something substantive to keep you aloft.
  • The powers are getting rather complex with a bunch of Flaws that are linked, so let's simplify this greatly so I can take a look at it again and see what you're after at a glance.
  • Your Intelligence in the normal range of human so I won't worry about it being part of your one glimpse at your powers.
  • How do you see yourself allocating your points at PL 10? Mainly focused on how you see your powers changing over time.

JaredSyn,
In a world of brooding superheroes a "friendly and outgoing" hero is a breath of fresh air. Great
You haven't been to North America, but if you'd like to have been accepted to a school there, or just arrived that is fine.
Solid app. I can have her arriving in America.
You've seen your powers a single time, catching Thomas, after that you wouldn't be able to replicate them at this time. No worries here either easily adapted.
How do you see yourself allocating your points at PL 10? Mainly focused on how you see your powers changing over time. Well moving forward I see her strength when using abilities increasing primarily, perhaps flight at some point using kinetic energy to project herself, but mostly improving upon the powers she has and maybe a few other utility type powers.
How are your powers noticeable when you use them? Not really sure since it is kinetic energy maybe just a faint outline as her constructs are created or her blasts and such perhaps like wavering air around the effect as it disturbs the air.

The Vectors are just visible energy projections that are the way he visualizes forces in physics. The closest parallel that occurred to me was Green Lantern, that's why I said light (or hardlight) projections/constructs. Whichever works, but energy makes a bit more sense than light in my opinion. From an Einsteinian perspective, they're kinda the same thing

That car definitely had it coming! And ouch so you don't want us to have any negative attributes? Hm I will try to figure that out then.

Yes I can commit to daily posts, I'm excited at the prospect of a game that fights the odds and posts that frequently! I wonder what
Dice Roll:
1d10 4
complication I will have...

I'm not sure super intelligence would be noticeable necessarily to outside people. Alfred is going to be aware he has some skills he didn't have before, and some skills he already had at an advanced level.
As for powers, at PL 8, I plan to focus mainly on abilities, advantages and skills. Maybe some tech too. I plan to use most PP gained to add technology to Alfred's arsenal.

Matis 'Jace' Leblanc

Age: 27

Superhero Moniker: Something cooler than
THIS

Archetype: Controller

Mutant Powers: Jace can sense and interact with the lifeblood of those around him. This manifests as an ability to manipulate blood pressure causing weakness or pain, as well as a sixth sense that allows him to feel the beating heart of those nearby.

Nationality: French

"The one who wins is the one who keeps getting up even when he can't"

-
Description: Jace is rather easy on the eyes. Standing just under six feet tall with a more wiry than athletic build, Jace exudes that brooding confidence so many people swoon over. Tussled dark hair frames a stubbled face and light blue eyes, all of which add to his roguish appearance. Jace wears simple clothes that always seems stylish in an 'I don't care about style' kind of way. He smile is more a smirk but is still rather charming.

Disposition: Jace is a rather happy go lucky sort in general even if he looks a bit more brooding that one might expect. He is quick witted, with a sharp tongue and a way with the ladies. He is kind by nature but was dealt a tough hand as a youth which colors much of his interactions. He is not averse to lying or manipulating people should it be a benefit and often has to negotiate with himself to put others first, though he is trying to be a less selfish person.

Background: Born is a rough part of Marseille to parents of modest means had Jace on the streets at an early age. Drugs, petty crime, gang bullsh*t were a pretty normal part of daily life. Fortunately for Jace he fell in with a group of kids that hung out at the local boxing gym. Jace was never the best, and took more than his share of beatings but it kept him in shape, and away from the worst of the neighborhood he grew up in. Trough sheer grit and determination, rather than talent he had a decent amateur career but one too many concussions later he wasn't ever to box again. Left out in the cold from the one salvation he had he quickly turned to theft and gambling to get ahead which culminated in underground bare-knuckle fights. Illegal and dangerous, Jace was able to sell his health for cash, well at least until what was left of his world came crashing down.

After Jace double-crossed Jean-Je it wasn't long before his new found enemy made certain the world, or at least those that mattered, knew that Jace was a mutant. The family had been more than happy to use and abuse his powers when they had Jace under their thumb but now that he had left them, they would ruin him if they couldn't find and kill him. They leaked his information to government authorities as well as the organized crime families they had contact with. This has made Jace's life all the more difficult.

1st rule is...
The smell of blood was nearly all he could make out. His vision was blurring and even if it was clear he could tell his eyes were almost swollen shut. Still he couldn't conceive of giving up. He needed the money if he was gonna eat and this pompous *sshole that was currently beating him to a pulp wasn't gonna take it from him.

Another massive fist swung down and cracked Jace at the temple. The world spun away and into a moment of darkness. Jace could feel the impact as his body landed with a flat thud on the warm concrete floor. Perhaps it was a trick in his mind as his brain reeled from the force of the blow or perhaps something else, but in that instant Jace could feel so much more.

"Ten! Nine!"

He could feel the leaden pulse of his own heartbeat frantically thumping along as his body struggled through the beat down it had sustained. He shook his head and pushed himself to his knees.

"Eight! Seven!"

Jace could hear another drum. This one was more steady in its rhythm but foreign to him. Like he was a doctor listening to a patient through his stethoscope. He focused on it, he could feel it like it was in his hands. Jace stood up.

"Six! Five!"

He felt the referee grab his hands and with a voice that sounded like they were underwater asked him if he wanted to continue. Jace could hear his own voice respond that he was okay, he wanted to fight but it felt detached. His mind was focused on the heart beat of his opponent. He again felt like he was holding the man's heart in his hand. Like he could just squeeze and make it stop if he wanted to.... and do he did.

The two men traded blows in the ring. At first it looked as though Jace might just fall right back to the floor but as they fought he squeezed. His opponent slowed. His strikes came slower and with less strength. His eyes began to lose focus and a look of confusion and fear crossed his face. Jace just kept swinging...

Complications

  • Secret: While anyone that knows Jace well enough has to know that he has a rather checkered past. The truth is much deeper though. Jace was involved in some very deep gambling with organized crime types. He rigged fights, ran protection, and even threw a fight or two if the cash was right. He bet a large sum on himself to win a fought he had agreed to lose. He managed a big enough score but it cost him his home in New Orleans and the life he had there. It also bought him some rather unpleasant enemies.
  • Enemy: The Corsican mafia, the successors of the Milleu, control much of the underworld if Marseille. It was this group that controlled Jace as well. Jace ran protection but he was a fighter and one that was in their pocket for many years. Told to throw a fight and failing to do so forced him to abandon his home city in an effort to avoid Jean-Je's wrath. Losing the head of the mob a ton of money was a sure way to make an enemy of them for life.
  • Reputation:Jace might be a looker but he is known to have a past lined with all manner of crime and grift. He left Marseille but some stains don't just wash off.
  • Temper:Who would think that a street rat turned boxer would have an anger issue? Jace doesn't pop off without provocation but when he is provoked he is a monster. Blood pressure throbbing in his head and his eyes clouded by the red of rage, Jace can be an absolute monster when hi swill finally breaks.
  • Redemption: Jace wants nothing more than to shed the weight of his former life, the anger that has driven him to do things he will not speak of, and the reputation that follows him still. He wants to be a better person, the kind that someone might look up to or be proud of. He tries to move in that direction, but he might as well be a ship without a sail paddling the new path with only his bare hands.
  • Side Effect: Jace's powers will always take effect when he uses them. Always! This means that when he reaches out to grasp at the heart's blood around him and fails to do so his power will assualt his own blood instead. On a failed CC roll to use his creepy blood powers the effect must then be rolled against Jace as though he was the target of the attack.Mechnanics

Advantages

When you make an all-out attack (see Maneuvers, page 197) you can take a penalty of up to –5 on your active defenses (Dodge and Parry) and add the same number (up to +5) to your attack bonus.All-Out Attack
You can avoid damage through agility and “rolling” with an attack. You receive a bonus to your Toughness equal to your advantage rank, but it is considered an active defense similar to Dodge and Parry (see Active Defenses in the Abilities chapter), so you lose this bonus whenever you are vulnerable or defenseless. Your total Toughness, including this advantage, is still limited by power level.

This advantage is common for heroes who lack either superhuman speed or toughness, relying on their agility and training to avoid harm.
Defensive Roll (4)
You’re particularly attractive, giving you a +2 circumstance bonus on Deception and Persuasion checks to deceive, seduce, or change the attitude of anyone who finds your looks appealing. With a second rank, you are Very Attractive, giving you a +5 circumstance bonus. This bonus does not count as part of your regular skill bonus in terms of the series power level, but also does not apply to people or situations which (in the GM’s opinion) would not be influenced by your appearance.

While superheroes tend to be a fairly good-looking lot, this advantage is generally reserved for characters with particularly impressive looks.
Attractive (1)
If you render a minion incapacitated with an attack, you get an immediate extra attack as a free action against another minion within range and adjacent to the previous target’s location. The extra attack is with the same attack and bonus as the first. You can continue using this advantage until you miss or there are no more minions within range of your attack or your last target.

A second rank in this advantage allows you to attack nonadjacent minion targets, moving between attacks if necessary to do so. You cannot move more than your speed in the round, regardless of the number of attacks you make. You stop attacking once you miss, run out of movement, or there are no more minions within range of your attack
Takedown
You have a +1 bonus to close attacks checks per rank in this advantage. Your total attack bonus is still limited by power level. This advantage best suits characters with a level of overall close combat skill (armed and unarmed). For capability with a particular type of attack, use the Close Combat skill.Close Attack

Powers

Hemokinesis

Jace can feel the life blood of those around him. This allows him an uncanny ability to sense where people are around him, and 'listen' to their heart beat, often allowing him to understand their emotional state, or even if they are lying. Additionally Jace is able to exert limited control over the flow and pressure of the blood he can sense. This might lead to temporary weakness, blindness, or even fainting. Conceivably this might be used to cause extreme pain or even death but Jace has never so much as attempted to push it that far. It seems this ability leaves him somewhat more resilant and tough as his powers affect his own body as well.

-
Sensate Sanguine

Jace can sense the living world around him by 'feeling' the heartbeat and blood flow of those around him.

Senses (1) [Mental; Ranged (1), Penetrates Concealment (4); Limited - Detects Living only(-1)]

Total Cost: 5

-
Tug on the heart strings...

Jace is able to exert control over the blood flow and pressure of those around him.

Affliction (8) [Dazed/Stunned/Incapacitated; Concentration (8), Cumulative (8); limited - Living Creatures(-8), Side-Effect (-8); Alternate Effect (1), Reach (5)]
Alt: Weaken 8 - Toughness [Concentration; Limited - Living Creatures, Feedback; Reach (5)]

Total Cost: 14

PL 8: Abilities 38, Defense 11, Skills 24, Advantages 8, Powers 19 = 100/100 Power Points

How do you see yourself allocating your points at PL 10? Mainly focused on how you see your powers changing over time.
Currently Hannah's powers are pretty weak. Her range isn't good and all of them have the "distracting" flaw because she really has to focus in order to use them. Buying this off with PP as she gets more used to forming the portals will probably come first, followed by some more subtle uses of her power. Shades of The Spot, throwing long distance and indirect attacks, using a portal peephole to effectively "scry" on locations. Get a drink from the fridge without getting up from the couch. You know, important things. Otherwise her core power is pretty set, it's just a matter of what goofy tricks she can figure out. Also she doesn't currently reach her PL caps for the most part. I went with your standard soldier, beefed up a little bit since she's a PC. But she's still basically a normal human at the start so she needs to "grow into" those truly "superhuman" stats.

Quote:
How are your powers noticeable when you use them?
They're all consistent because she only has "one" power, it's just different applications of the same thing. It pretty much looks like this, only better than I could spend two minutes making with Photoshop.
