Some really nice apps so far, this will be a tough one, but I'll throw my hat into the ring.
Marco Marconi
Name: Marco Marconi, aka “Steeleye”
Race: Human
Age: 27
Alignment: True Neutral (Marco) Lawful Evil (Steeleye)
Class: Vigilante
Description
Marco is the epitome of the wealthy, foppish merchant. His clothes are fine silks with ruffles on the cuffs and buttons of ivory and silver, his boots are always shined, and he wears a dapper half-cape. His face, with thin mustachios and a smug expression, is instantly recognizable by anyone in the know around Parsantium’s high-class social scene. What most do not know is that the entire image is a carefully constructed facade to deflect any suspicion of his extralegal activities.
The mysterious figure known to most only as Steeleye cuts an imposing figure, even among seasoned mafiosos. His black cape, lined on the inside with stark white, covers equally black armor, including a pair of oversized gauntlets, which are not just for show, as anyone who knows Steeleye can tell you. Steeleye never shows his face, wearing at all times a full helm, topped with an elegant hat; the perfect blend of refinement and menace.
Background
The Marconi family has been involved in Parsantium’s organized crime for generations. They rarely got their hands dirty directly, preferring to make a nice profit facilitating smuggling and laundering money for the La Speranzas, supplementing the income from their legitimate shipping business. It’s something of an open secret that the Marconis are ‘connected’; people know of it, but they are far enough removed from the more heinous elements that very little of substance can be linked to them.
Marco’s father, Lorenzo Marconi, did his best to keep his son away from that side of the business, seeing him as ‘too soft’ and ‘not nearly clever enough’ to handle the unscrupulous work involved in dealing with the mafia. Marco chafed at the restrictions and tried to make connections of his own, but with his powerful father’s disapproval, no one would dare to trust him with anything important. He eventually came to the decision that in order to make a name for himself, he would have to do just that- make a new name. A whole new identity, in fact.
No one seems quite sure where the mysterious Steeleye came from, but he quickly established himself as a capable enforcer and moved up through the ranks quickly. Not much gets by the Big Cheese, though, and eventually Steeleye found himself called before the Don, who, naturally, was fully aware of his true identity. Rather than reject him to appease his father, though, Anthony La Speranza was more than happy to keep his secret- after all, Lorenzo wasn’t getting any younger, and the family had been eager for more direct control over the Marconis’ shipping for some time. Marco could be as big an asset as Steeleye had already proven to be.
When Lorenzo finally did pass a few years later, Marco took his place as head of the company, while Steeleye gained the position of capo in the La Speranza crime family. Many worried initially that Marco, who is widely seen as a foolish dandy, would drive his family’s concerns into the ground, but in the months since he took the reins, business has boomed, due in no small part to their deepened relationship with certain… “silent partners”. Steeleye, meanwhile, is one of the most feared capos in the city, notorious for being unafraid to do the dirtiest work personally. Only the don, his fellow capos, and a few trusted lieutenants know his true identity, but people all through the docks know to stay in line, or Steeleye may come for you in the night.
The Line
Steeleye does not hesitate to use violence to achieve the family’s ends, but only against those who have earned it. This includes, naturally, anyone who is a direct threat to the family, as well as, on occasion, certain business owners who refuse to cooperate. What he will not do is harm bystanders to make a point; he won’t harm a man’s family to gain his obedience. This is both a matter of principle and of practicality. When you hurt a man, he obeys you out of fear you will do it again. Hurt the same man’s loved ones , he becomes vengeful and you can never trust him again.
What Do I Want: This game seems like a unique attempt to really get into what can make a vigilante unique; I want to get into both Marco and Steeleye, exploring what both of them bring to the table for the family.

"Constable!" Marco flashed a wide grin at the older man. Constable Accardi was an old acquaintance of the Marconi family, and an upstanding member of the city watch. Too upstanding for Marco's taste; the man had proved not as easy to 'win over' as some of his less scrupulous colleagues. Fortunately, he was relatively easy to fool. "To what do I owe this great pleasure?"
"This isn't a social call, Marco," the officer said tersely. "But it's also not official.. not yet anyway. I wanted to talk to you about some disturbing rumors, off the record and before anything more comes of it."
Marco shrugged and chuckled at his guest's concern. "You mean that business with the doge's niece? Don't worry yourself over that. If she had told me she was engaged, I assure you I wouldn't have-"
Accardi cut him off with a raised hand before he could finish the thought. "Not those rumors, son. I'm speaking of more serious matters. Matters concerning your family, your business, and the criminal element in this city. I turned a blind eye to the talk about your father for many years because of our friendship, but if you have found yourself entangled with these people, you need to come clean. I can help you, keep you safe and get you out before you're in over your head."
Marco almost laughed. The old fool wanted to protect him, did he? If only he knew... Still, the attention could be problematic. "Constable, I'm surprised. I hadn't thought you the type to buy into such rumors. Lies spread by my peers, no doubt. Rooted in jealousy, I'd suppose; if you don't mind me saying, some of the nobles in this city can be a bit shallow. I can personally assure you, this company is as reputable as they come. Why just yesterday, we made a sizable charitable donation to... orphans or something. Or was it widows? A very worthy cause, I'm sure."
The constable let out a sigh and rolled his eyes. He seemed convinced- convinced at least that Marco was a harmless idiot. "Yes, I'm sure. If you do hear of anything untoward going on, please let me know. These men are more dangerous than you know."
Steeleye
Later that night, Steeleye strode boldly down a street not far from the old docks. He had little to fear; no one in this neighborhood would dare report him. And if they did, it would just be another unconfirmed sighting of the unnamed capo. Anonymity certainly had its perks in his business. He had considered paying Constable Accardi a visit tonight, but decided against it. That would be overly reactionary, and counterproductive. The constable was satisfied for the time being, any action against him now would only further spark his suspicion. Besides, he had a prior engagement to get to.
The appointment in question was one Alfeo Luoni, a merchant of no particular importance. At the moment, the man was unloading his newest shipment. It was the third such shipment he had received that week, all of them delivered in the dead of night. One might think he was hiding from the law, but Steeleye knew better. There were worse things than lawmen Luoni had to fear. The shipment itself was inconsequential, some fine silver candlesticks and other assorted luxury items destined for the wealthier parts of the city. Not a bad payday for a merchant who a month ago had been struggling to make ends meet. He had gotten desperate; desperate enough to come to the family for help. A small loan, by their standards, just enough to bring his wares into Parsantium, after which he would sell them and pay the money back. With interest, of course. A simple arrangement, except for the fact that he had lied. His profits from the sale were considerably larger than he had claimed they would be, and consequently the family's cut was to be bigger as well. But it wasn't.
Luoni stood at the head of the dock, overseeing the unloading process. He was clearly nervous, constantly checking over his shoulder as if he expected someone to be after him. A wise concern, Steeleye thought. But pointless. As the small man turned back to his ledger to count off another crate, a menacing shadow loomed over him. "You've been holding out on us, Alfeo."
Luoni spun around in shock to see a figure clad in black armor standing behind him. His workers, not paid well enough for such things, were quickly gone, shouts of "Steeleye!" echoing around the docks behind them. For a few moments, Luoni seemed frozen, unable to move or even speak. Then, defeated, he fell to the ground before Steeleye, whimpering like a child. "Forgive me, sir. I was foolish... my wife, she encouraged it, said you'd never miss it... I will pay it all back, just please show mercy, sir."
Steelye shook his head. Almost too easy, it had been ages since he'd had a challenge. "You still breathe. That is my mercy. And this ," he said, as he roughly lifted the man up and buried a gauntleted fist in his chest, "is a reminder. You will pay the full amount you owe, plus an extra fifty percent for the trouble. And do not cross us again. You have used up all of my mercy."
