Captain Hill presses another button, and the image on the holo-projection changes.

In focus is now a three-story apartment building. The light blue facade is covered in small balconies, with narrow glass doors. The building is slightly neglected, with a few run down frames. It is in need of small amounts of maintenance.

"This is 3450 Bellevue Blvd. This building primarily houses students. This is where we have chartered two apartments for this team. You can return here at anytime should you feel it is necessary, and this is where you will pass the nights, to keep up appearances as regular students.

We have a standard two-man communications team, which will stay in silent contact with you all day. You will be issued concealed comm units that will keep you in contact with the rest of your team."

Another press of the button. The zoomed image shows the technical spec and cut-out illustration of a standard NDI communicator.

"You'll also have a selected wardrobe to make you look the part."

"You'll also be issued ceramite-nylon NDI standard side arms. They will evade standard metal detectors you may find on campus."

Another press of the button. You are now looking at the military brochure spec of a NDI standard issue sidearm, with a dark green hue, and a glossy sheen that marks it as non-metallic.

"Finally, and most importantly, you will be issued a 1-charge emergency teleporter and beacon. Since you will be at various points on campus during your surveillance, if you find that you cannot handle something and you need help, press the beacon and all other teleporters will be notified. You can activate your teleporter and it will immediately transport you to the active beacon. "

Another press of the button, and you are looking at a short video loop of two individuals in NDI uniforms, apparently agents you have not met before. They stand approximately 50 yards apart. One of them suddenly disappears in a flash of light, and reappears half a second later next to the other one.

Last, but not least, you'll be issued fabricated identities with names of your choosing.

One more press of the button, and the holo-projections vanish, the engine's hum becoming silent. The lights in the room go back on.

"Faith, you had asked about organization and leadership. We prefer to have everyone trained in leadership, not just a fraction of the operatives. During team missions, everyone gets to "lead". The "team responsibility" is rotated every mission. We feel that "leadership" is not just command. Anyone can bark orders. That's the easy part. But taking care of your team and supporting your teammates is where the real leaders show their mettle. Here at NDI, leadership is "responsibility and consideration". The team lead is charged with the welfare of the team, maintaining the organizational focus during a mission, and making decisions in the field to the best of their ability to address changing or difficult situations.

If you wish, we can select the first team lead for this mission, or, preferably, you can pick one yourselves. Don't think any less of the final selection today, because in the next four missions, all of you will be taking on the role of team lead. Your turn will come. I can promise you that."

Hill smiles.

"Alright... 'now' you can continue your questions. Ask me anything... specially you, Albert. I know you were feeling uncomfortable with the flexible structure of the mission. We have maps, collegiate literature, course listings, and a schedule of campus events for you. We have Montgomery's class times and subjects, his office hours, his regular itinerary from Monday to Friday, even when and where he likes to have lunch."

She reaches below the table to produce a stack of papers, publications, and folders of various colors. You can see booklets, fliers, even restaurant menus. The university's class catalog is the most prominent of them, being easily half an inch in thickness. She hands a light folder to each of you. Inside you find a bound set of papers with the title "Professor Montgomery - Campus Observations - NDI Eyes Only".

"You have the rest of the day and tomorrow to go over the structure of the task. This is precisely the moment to create a plan, take on roles and responsibilities, commit them to memory, and agree on how you will support each other."

Hill leans forward, resting her elbows on the table, and her chin on the back of her palms. She looks around the table, her eyes brows raised in anticipation. A mischievous upcurl of lips betrays the fact that she is enjoying this.

Albert doesn't have anything else to add at the moment. He had a question and it was answered, he knew how to take orders and despite what the captain might think, he was well versed in adapting to the situation. Outside NDI people with abilities don't fill every role and so when someone like Albert was brought on he or she was trusted to apply their abilities in the most beneficial way possible. In the police, he was used to getting a vague assignment and having to make a snap decision.

What bothered him was the confluence of having information and not being told how to act. It smelled like another test to Albert but either way he knew he was expected to play ball. He got a little excited when he saw the folders, Now this is more like it. When the captain stops talking Albert goes to the back of the room and immediately takes his folder apart and moves through the information in a methodical manner. From a pocket he pulls out a worn notebook and begins to jot down relevant notes, making special note of points of vulnerability and places they could get close to him without arousing suspicion. For the first time any of you had seen, Albert seems completely relaxed and surprisingly in his element.

Coyote paid special attention with the tech equipment specs out of habit, maybe thinking of building his own eventually. He didn't have a whole lot to say at the moment yet but he did lean back and take it all in. Ooo! What about some drones?

The dossier contains a physical description of Dr. Montgomery, but you don't really need it with the holographic depiction you just witnessed.

The itinerary contains a daily schedule while on campus:

- He teaches class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9 am to 10:30 am.

- His office hours are Monday afternoon, from 3 pm to 5 pm, and Thursday mornings, from 10 am to 12 noon.

- He arrives on a regular teaching day approximately at 8 am and heads to his office.

- After class, he may answer questions, but otherwise returns to his office and stays there until lunch time, which he has at one of the local on-campus eateries.

- After lunch, he may either return to his office, or return home.

- Every other week, on Thursday afternoons, he meets with faculty around 2 pm in the teachers lounge of the R. Waldo Emerson building, which houses parts of the Humanities department.

- He is fond of student questions.

In addition to this basic itinerary, there is a map of the humanities department buildings where Montgomery teaches. The main auditorium resides in the Kant building, where several offices and other small auditoriums are housed. The auditorium seats an audience of 320. The notes indicate that this is where Montgomery teaches. The two other building flanking this one, R. Waldo Emerson to the east, and the Humanities Administrative Building to the north, house the remainder of Humanities department, including History, Anthropology, Art History, Philosophy, Linguistics, Literature, etc.

His office is located in the Kant building, on the third floor, number 325.

To the south of Waldo Emerson and the Kant building is a large student quad with benches and an open grass space. Immediately south of Kant is Edward Jefferson campus library. South east of the quad is the Isabelle and Theodore Kendrick student building, which holds lockers, several restaurants, student stores, and plenty of comfortable student seating. It is often used as a study stop.

To the north east is the Music department, with two buildings and a concert hall for student performances. To the west is a large campus parking lot and administrative buildings. Further to the south are the Math and Sciences buildings, and past that the School of Medicine and Life Sciences. South east are the student administration buildings, as well as the general student store, main library building, and athletics buildings. A larger quad is also present here, with stores, student services, and a small open-air amphitheater. Farther east are student dormitories and suite housing, along with student amenities, tennis courts, swimming pools, eating halls, entertainment lounges, and libraries.

"Okay," Laura pipes up after spending about ten minutes going through her dossier. "I think I got everything. When do we start?"

Psyren paid close attention making her own mental notes about the mans schedule. She knew they would need to take shifts of a sort keeping an eye on the Dr. so as not to draw attention.

"Seems like we have a decent amount of homework to do familiarizing ourselves with our identities and the class catalog, and the layout of the facility. It is probably best we get started we can meet up again prior to heading out to ensure we are all on the same page. We should stagger our presence around the Dr. so one of us is not spotted being around him all the time. We can communicate mentally, if anyone needs to support or to pass along any concerns."

Faith shuffles the information, reading for several minutes... A few times holding some unrelated pages together to compare information. I have a few questions about his schedule.

On Thursday his office hours are given. Does he arrive at a consistent time on Thursdays?

Does he go to lunch on campus afterwards or generally return home?

For the teaching days is there any consistency to the days where he chooses to go home or return to his office?

If he returns to the office, is there a general time he goes home from there?

Captain Hill takes the questions in stride.

"You start as soon as you feel ready, but hopefully no later than two days from now."

Psyren adds observations,

"Seems like we have a decent amount of homework to do familiarizing ourselves with our identities and the class catalog, and the layout of the facility. It is probably best we get started we can meet up again prior to heading out to ensure we are all on the same page. We should stagger our presence around the Dr. so one of us is not spotted being around him all the time. We can communicate mentally, if anyone needs to support or to pass along any concerns."

Captain Hill nods in acknowledgement.

Coyote replies,

"Well, one concern - I've got a big metal arm and we're watching a professor whose known to work with cybernetics. Even if he just does the philosophical issues with it. That would kind of stand out, wouldn't it?"

"That is a possibility. But I don't think it would stand out in a class that addresses the subject. Now, that's just what I think, but I would suspect that you may be asked to speak in class to share your thoughts, and so maybe be at the center of attention for a short time, but considering the subject, there may be more like you taking the class. If that happens, act casual. But if you think that it would get too much attention, you might have to remove yourself from class surveilance."

Faith adds her questions to the conversation.

"On Thursday his office hours are given. Does he arrive at a consistent time on Thursdays?"

"As far as we can tell, he's moderately punctual. Give or take 10 minutes is likely."

"Does he go to lunch on campus afterwards or generally return home?"

"For Thursday?", she asks. She picks up one of the folders in of front of her and reviews the information. "Looks like he stays on campus. He does have that meeting every other week, and from these notes, does have his lunch consistently on campus when there. Unfortunately, it's not exact. We can extrapolate from his habits, but we can't exactly predict when he will do something different."

"For the teaching days is there any consistency to the days where he chooses to go home or return to his office?"

"That has to do with his daughter and her visits. She occasionally visits her father during the early part of a day. She's a resident nurse and has an extended schedule. When his daughter visits, he will leave early. However, our other teams take care of surveillance at that point, so I don't think you have much to worry about after he leaves campus."

"If he returns to the office, is there a general time he goes home from there?"

"That depends on the workload he has. From what I understand, on any normal day, he'll finish whatever he needs to do, prepare for the next class, finish any paper work, and then head home. That might take him half an hour, maybe more. During examination times, he stays longer to grade papers, read compositions, and talk with any students that need his help. That might take several extra hours, and like most teachers, he'll probably take some of his work home. Next week will be midterm exams for his class. He will be busier then."

Albert listens with one ear to the others proposing their questions but mostly he is processing the details like the prep details for a sting mission. If this man were a POI where would we hit him... He looks over his notes and back to the map, his fingers tracing various routes to and from doors. After a moment he pauses and chuckles to himself, Two dimensional thinking... Albert kept forgetting this wasn't a primarily mund mission group anymore. They could do much that his old force couldn't.

Albert waits a beat for someone else to offer any sort of plan, but the only plan so far had been to wait and talk tomorrow. That would be a mistake as everyone would be thinking individually still, he needed to prod them into the right mentality. The three obvious points of attack are; to and from his home, to and from lunch, or the office time itself. The captain says our zone of responsibility is the campus itself so if we confine ourselves to lunch and office time we will have the best chance of catching the would-be abductors. We need coordinated hand-offs from the moment he enters the campus and established surveillance in the areas that would be too obvious for one of us to be. Usage of abilities will need to be minimal until the moment of action to avoid giving ourselves away prematurely.

He looks at the others and mentally reviews what he has learned of their abilities. Some points to consider are electronic oversight and a bug or two in his office and classroom, primary, secondary, and tertiary escape routes, and best roles on campus to minimize exposure. I know we've already mentioned some, but it bears pointing out again so we are all thinking along the same lines. Some recommendations I might make are for Jared naturally to help with electronic oversight. If nothing else this would give us warning when countermeasures are initiated. Laura and myself should be considered as primary evacuation if possible since using a door or going down stairs won't be the best plan, but we should assume it won't be as easy as the simulation. Also, we will want to screen his office visitors as much as possible. There will be some last minute additions and that cannot be helped, but our first move each day should be to screen each student that signs up with a special emphasis on repeat signups or new student signups. Clearly with midterms approaching this will entail a lot of extra students, but that also makes it a prime time to strike against him.

Albert stops and seems to realize he had been talking like a police sergeant. Just some ideas based on my experiences thus far, but working with abilities is new to me, so you'll have to help me adapt to that. He smiles crookedly at everyone, So reconvene in the morning to hash out a full plan?

Captain Hills listens intently to Albert's suggestions.

"Yes, that could work. Since you suspect that the extraction team might impersonate students, how do you plan on screening them? We can provide you with listening devices. I don't think the university would actively scan for them, so it should be safe. We can have the support teams at the apartments listen in on them and keep you abreast of anything out of the ordinary, so you can focus on being in place."

The captain turns back to Faith.

"Faith, it looked like you had ideas in mind, with all the questions you asked. Did you want to propose a plan?"

Coyote gives a nod at the idea of calling it for the night and hashing a proper plan in the morning but he has another idea as well. He was a notorious hacker before he got this job after all. Might be worth dipping in the deep web once again.

He smiles, rolls his neck, and starts touching into the files to get those companies a good looking over.

Coyote:

You are very practiced in the arts of messing around with computers. The two companies you are looking for, Iewa-Ishikawa and Neue Welte-Hammer, have strong corporate presences in the public arena. Their shares are traded in all major international exchanges.

Initial searches come up with the following details:

Iewa-Ishikawa
CEO: Tagaki Aoto
Yearly Profits: 4.5 Billion New-Euros
Industry: Psi Research and Development, Manufacturing
Products: Psi Enhancements, Psi Compensators, Psi Nullifiers, Psi Prosthetics, Psi-Medical Diagnostics and Treatment
Targeted Audience: Law Enforcement (local and international), General Public, Medical Applications, Private & Public Sector

Neue Welt-Hammer
CEO: Klaus Hofman
Yearly Profits: 13.1 Billion New-Euros
Industry: Defense Research and Development, Manufacturing
Products: Military armaments - heavy equipment (mobile and air-born weapon platforms), personal armaments, personal defense systems.
Targeted Audience: National and international defense initiatives (international organizations), large scale national interests and customers (nation states), private para-military organizations, law enforcement organizations, private sector special clients

This comes very easy to you. It would be "casual" to dig into more personal information, like local branch accounting and personnel files, but the real meat of the operations is not available to the public. Since it has become too easy to hack into networks, all companies now keep two: a public one, which is available for corporate communications and general information, and a private one, where research and development occurs, and where valuable intellectual property is kept. The private networks are internal, and are removed from any contact with the public networks. To actually obtain information from them requires that you be present on premises and have the appropriate security clearances.

OOC:
Since you have Technology at a Skill Mastery at 24, this was easy to obtain. Are you looking for anything special?

Faith shook her head. Not a competition... Besides his plan had been better than what she could have come up with.

No, that's a great start. I think if had access to some of the university's computer system, we could eliminate a lot of the students by knowing which ones have been accumulating grades since the beginning of the term, and which are also getting grades in other classes. Should help us to identify genuine academic students versus those who might be there for other reasons. The briefing said they approached him with a legitimate offer about six weeks ago, which should have been after the term started*. So they probably would not have started getting a plan in motion until after that point.

We can sign up for office time as late as possible as to be 'last', and then show up early. That should give a look at the others who go in, and a chance to send the list out for screening. We'll probably need to have some legitimate questions prepared so we look like we're there in earnest.

The young woman considers a bit more, looking back through her papers. Anything in here like a social calendar? We should be aware of intersecting times that have an influx of new faces... Dunno if they do something like a parents' day or coordinated visits from prospective students. But it seems like that would be an easy way to conceal this kind of thing.

OOC:*Been a long time since college but I think that's accurate.

"I can get the computers to help us out," he remarks, leaning a bit as he considers the other idea.

"Another thought though, those companies both have public networks and private ones. The public ones I could hack while sitting here. The private ones would be trickier, but I could do it if I could get in the right places with some clearances. Might be a fun angle to try."
